Well, it's finally confirmed and locked in for Saturday the 22nd June 2013.
The event will be held at Scamander Rivermouth and will commence at 9am.

Surfing Tasmania will be officiating this sup surf competition and as such all competitors will be judged according to current Surfing Australia guidelines.
In the next few days a link will be available to take you from this thread to the entry page at Surfing Tas - alternatively, visit:

http://www.surfingaustralia.com/tas/events.php (and keep an eye out for the entry for the Winter Sup Classic.)

I have been informed that all competitors will need to join Surfing Tas, at a very reasonable cost of $44 (which gives you a shirt and insurance - very very handy to protect you in the unlikely event of an accident in the surf) ALSO - we have been able to get the actual event entry fee down the a tiny $15 !! So in total the event will cost you only $59 to enter - I can assure you that this is soooo cheap and certainly less than half of what some mainland comp's cost.

We have also negotiated with Surfing Tas to ensure that all entrants WILL surf at least twice, to ensure value for money, and to make sure everyone gets a chance to surf their best and give every single entrant a chance of moving onto the finals and for the elite surfers, the chance to represent our state at this years national titles.

Ok - that's all the stuff that the serious heads need to know at this stage - more importantly though, for us average punters there will be lots of good waves and lots of laughs to be had, both in, and out of the surf. Yes, we will all be surfing in the same comp' but I can assure you that there will be all levels of surfer in the event, from almost raw beginners to seasoned pro's - actually most of us are novice to intermediate surfers, so everyone is welcome and will be well looked after, so do not feel intimidated to enter because I can guarantee you that, no matter how badly you surf, there WILL be someone waaaaay worse than you.

WE will also be having a bit of a demo sesh and there will be heaps of boards to view and try and if you have boards to sell, bring em along and buy, sell or trade if you wish.
There will be fun races (surf sups) in the river for those not keen to surf, so make sure you bring the whole family along.

IMPORTANTLY ALSO - there will be some really cool prizes and you'd be very unlucky not to be taking home some kind of goodies.

Some of us will be heading down to Scamander on the Friday night so if you are keen to stay for a night or two, let us know and we can put you in touch with the place we are staying.

Tassiesup have received an email from surftas explaining that "they" made a small mistake in their earlier advice re entry fee. The surftas membership is unchanged at $44 but the entry is $30. We were understandably less than impressed BUT in hindsight we understand it is still incredibly cheap for such an iconic event, and there are so many spot prizes from our wonderful sponsors/supporters that it will still be hands down the best value comp' ever.
The entry page is now fully up and running on the surftas website so get in and prepare yourself for the best sup weeked of your life.

Tony - the surfing event will be "open" as thats all surftas has provided for this year HOWEVER the esteemed tassiesup committee have decided to run an over 40s or 45s division that will be run unofficially as part of the "opens". By that I mean that we all compete together but that age division is something tassiesup will award and acknowledge. I think the over 4? Will be a hotly contested division.

Surfing Tas' have decided in their wisdom to work with TassieSUP on the tee shirt design/printing & distribution. What TassieSUP are going to do is encourage people to get their entries in by 1st of June so that they get tee shirt sizes in time to have the shirts ready on comp' weekend - no dramas though if not able to enter until the official closing date - just means that the tees may need to be posted out to entrants.
Im not sure about fridge magnets but I do know of a couple of genuine chick magnets that will be attending.
Good news too that one of the countries best female sup'ers has expressed an interest in attending - she will certainly be keeping the "local guns" on their toes.

TassieSUP also wish to extend their heart-felt thanks to those who have offered/contributed gifts and prizes for comp' weekend - it's bloody hard going for so many small businesses down here at present, and not easy to be able to give away goods and services but seems that people are so happy to chip in to help support local events like this - it is very humbling and very very much appreciated.

Hey Billboard, if you guys want to make some money or need extra income I would be up for buying one of your contest T-shirts. Free advertising in Qld and I will pay for it. There could be a bit of a market amongst SUPpers from interstate.
Let me know if interested.
Might even make Spencer jealous.

Typical of the softcocks from launceston having to bring in the netural northwest coast to fight their battles, the northwest coasters are ok in our books.

Was over on the west coast yesterday around Marrawah , some absolute monster waves coming through , some of the bigger ones had to be around the 20 foot mark .
Got some great pics , from the safety of the shore

It has come to our notice that some expected entrants have shown reluctance to enter due to being fearful of being "way outta their league" - I just wish to inform all, that at least four of the entrants so far are what I would class as "novice" (surfing less than 1 year, and one only 2 months)
Most of us are probably intermediate at best. If the surf is small my missus is going to have a go, and she has NEVER surfed and only sup'ed 4 times !

The whole idea of the weekend is for FUN - there are only a very small handful of entrants actually chasing trophies/title. Personally I'll be going into the weekend not having surfed for 6 months - so that's one less person you need to worry about.

HOT TIP

To be at your best on the day .. 22 Jun ..
make sure you have plenty of wetsuit
booties sessions in the meantime.

Nothing worse than re-adjusting to booties.

Sincerely

Dr. SUP
