From this point of view the cars are by far the more dangerous instrument. It doesn't matter what it was originally designed to do, my hunting rifle was never EVER designed to kill people, yet in the wrong hands it could so same as a car.
BTW Bushwalkers get lost/fall and sometimes die (added due to the topic of accidents raised erlier)...

are you serious?
You really think that is a valid comparision or argument ?
Cars aren't a weapon , that's why most deaths are accidents, massacres are pre planned attacks.. Most Murders are planned, armed robberies are planned all of those are planned, gun suicides are even planned.
car accidents are not and to that end the deaths per KM driven is tiny. So from a public safety point of view, cars are safe, and millions is spent on enforcing safe driving to make it safer for the community, which is exactly what the gun laws do, makeit safer for the whole community.
Stop drawing other debates into it, it's not crime stats or bushwalking, its about gun control through reducing the numbers of them available, it is the simplest risk reduction strategy there is, make less available.
Sorry but your guns basic purpose is to be effective at killing things, a cars purpose is to provide transport...
