From my perspective, windsurfing is cheaper that a gym membership.

I have 1 board, 3 sails, 2 masts and a boom which lets me sail in winds between 15 and 35 knots. This gear, on average, will last 3-5 years and whose total cost is less than or equal to 3-5 years of gym fees.

Only problem is that I could go to the gym whenever I want, but mother nature will dictate when I windsurf!.

Cheers

Actually windsurfing gear is cheaper now than it ever has been. You can buy a brand new sail for less than $600. You can buy a new board for about $1500. Back in the 80s when windsurfing was popular gear was around that price too. But back then you could buy a new car for around $10K and buy a house for $50K.

So probably a house was worth around 25 or 30 windsurfers back then. Now a house is worth around 200 windsurfers. According to Lotowinds calculations a house is worth around 12 windsurfers.

It may be cheap but a full kit is bl00dy expensive!! $600 for one sail and you would generally need two or three wouldnt you? So thats $1800 just for sails!! Board for $1500 then a boom, at a guess $600??
So thats $3900
And thats in round figures.
To my mind thats a lot of $$ I could by a quiver of surf boards with that money paying full retail.

BTW Ive got a funny lookin fin that someone might want, I will post a pic tomorrow.

Agreed,,I can never understand why someone would pay to go and run on a tread mill??????? Borring. You dont get anywhere and just stare at a spot on the wall.
Why not just go for a jog down the beach,,its free,,lots more to look at,fresh air, sun, and you can take ya dog.

This is half the reason I started windsurfing. Trouble is good technique means less exercise.

I'm starting Muay Thai next week. God help me

We used to calculate the value of things over here in terms of how many pairs of Marks and Spencer trousers you could buy. (Nowadays, it's Tescos jeans .... they're much much cheaper!)

The difference is, they can be worn every day, (until they start exposing the nether regions). But much very expensive winsurfing gear, such as multi fin down the line wave boards, can only be used by folk in 'normal' locations very rarely indeed, however much they drool all over them!

Do you guys really drink Fosters?????? Suckers.

Sorry to disappoint windy. Am non drinker, don't smoke, and have never knowingly had a relationship with any sheep! (Or should that be roos in your case.)

Just had a fully powered 4.2 day on my old battered original Evo 74. Why would I need to replace it! Think of all the TROUSERS, with or without suspenders, I can buy with the money saved. Now lets see ... I'll have a dozen green pairs, six dozen pink ones, and ........ wonder what those S.U.P. things are for???

A playstation is cheaper, and a yoyo evan cheaper still.
Price isn't a real issue.
Just check out the buy and sell section here on seabreeze where my last 5 boards came from. They were between $300 and $800.
The money I saved on flashy new gear I used to buy new flashy light gear for my kids.
No matter what your budget is, if you really want to windsurf it can be done cheaply.

We both havn't tried it yet,its too cold for us me.I've gotten soft in my old age,I won't go if the temp is 14 or below.
For the last fortnight we have been ready for a dash down to Vic for speedweeks and hopefully get to meet some of you mexican seabreezersbut the forecast temp now that its windy is below 14
So if you turn up the fan and the thermostat(and maybe a nice mexican wave) and we'll come for visit

I can't wait to try it out, before next weekend when there is a formula races at Jervis Bay we plan to go to.
It's school holidays but the weather has not been good, so we are visiting all the relatives.[}:)]
