SWS, 2 to 3 day sea journeys around islands, camping as you go, that kind of thing. It's a different mindset to normal windsurfing. The journey is the satisfaction, not the speed.
Could do that in a dinghy..
Longboarding hasn't 'died in the ass,' whatever that might mean. Nor is longboarding unchanged. (Modern rigs make a difference.) My Kona 1 typically planes in the mid 20 m.p.h. range when lit up, yet is a satisfying all rounder in less than planing conditions. Plenty of others must agree since it sells well enough.
My understanding is that back in the day there were longboards piled 2 high on every lake and beach.. These boards are all under sheds or accumulating in landfills.. This is
dying in the ass..
As for getting bored, many found so when they bought into the short board image over function con for their non high wind sailing locations. Endlessly sitting in the car park talking, and waiting for something to happen p****d them right off! Image didn't match reality, so they left for more accessible sports!
Exactly, shortboard was the natural evolution to plodding round a lake on ya wally,.. Pitty that it's never windy.. Stagnation resulted..
