Hi cisco, I agree with your question, Id rather it on the legs as well.
It was a case of re doing what was existing on the legs.

On anchor watching another sunset from Salamander Bay. Enjoying Australia Day weather with a beer.

I took my scrappy little boat out of the river and up the coast to Hillarys Marina as part of the Dash For Cash race.

It gave me a chance to test my re-rigging and bulkheads/deck repair in slightly stronger conditions than I have been getting in the river. We had very light conditions to start, but they built to a 15-18knt SSWly by the time we finished. Mostly a downwind sled ride, but about an hour beating back South on the windward leg.

The week before I had blown out my headsail and all I had as a replacement to fit the furler was a #3. Consequently we didn't do too well in the race.

After overnighting in the marina we headed back through Freo and up the river.

Quite proud of my little boat, but looking at these photos.. Jeez, what a mess. Time to get out the paintbrush and the polish!

Top effort. Your boat is not a scrappy little mess but a work in progress and not much more to go to perfect. The Cassidy Sails jib - I had these sails on a Farr727 I bought here 2007 and they were great but somewhat past their use by date how old is yours?.........would an Etchells jib fit? Even with minor luff adjustment at the head if needed? And Yngling jib for a no3? I got both of these for the 727.

While your busy sewing, add a pennant to the head of that Number 3 to get the head sail swivel higher up the alloy foil. The swivel needs to be higher so the halyard is not parallel to the foil. That set up is likely to have the halyard wrap around the foil as you furl and that can be a real pain.

Cove Marina, way out in the boon docks of Port Stephens,

D'Albora at Port Stephens also allows you to work on your boat, but not sleep on it while it's slipped.

Balmain marina allowed you to work on the boat a few years back when we left Sydney.

Took the J-boat out to the Broughton Islands. What an under-rated place; pound for pound up there with the Whitsundays IMHO. It was too swelly to snorkel through the shark gully with the grey nurses but we did some other snorkelling, picked a wave on the boogie board and then had great run home in a nice nor'easter with champagne in hand and the GPS ticking to 10 knots.

Also dived under the boat to measure the prop for ORC Club. I'm not sure when we'll do an ORC race but I want to know how quick we should go, compared to the opposition.

There's a bit of money to go into electrics since we gassed the starter battery somehow after a weekend of struggling for electrical power, but hey it's only money and we want to get it right before heading to Queensland over winter.

We had to come back a bit early to look after the grandkids because the daughter has mild Covid. Got back and the sailing club we started running a couple of years ago is buzzing as everyone prepares for the next regatta. Other clubs complain about dwindling numbers and lack of kids and beginners but we're literally having problems fitting the active boats inside the compound because of all the newbies and kids. It's really not that hard, just be friendly, open and nurturing to the new people and keep the top end of the fleet aiming for the big titles.

Rain finally stopped in Brisbane yesterday so went for a little sail in the bay

Wasn't much wind but worth going out just to get the main out of the bag and dry it out and stop it going green again. I keep a spray bottle of "wet and forget" on board now so I can squirt on spots that start looking green as we hoist.
