It looks pretty normal by OD standards, possibly with less downhaul and a few mm less outhaul than usual for course racing. Judging from the other pics in the sequence he was getting ready for slalom racing at the time, and bagging out the sail a bit is common for slalom racing where acceleration is vital.

It's interesting to see on the French Windsurfer OD page that they are commenting on how little downhaul tension we use- they are adding multiple purchase blocks!

One Design sails are of course always deeper than "normal" windsurfer sails since we race in light winds and prefer a deeper shape that allows you to develop more power from a smaller and much lighter sail.The downside is higher drag and less stable handling. I reckon the tradeoff is dead right.

The cut off for SH at 88 has focused me to lose more weight. I'm currently 100kg and am the heaviest in WA in the LT fleet. I find I need about 18 knots wind to rail which is a bit frustrating as by then most of the fleet has gotten away from me. I have made a good start 7 years ago I weighed 118kg. I know there are others like me so if I can do it they can too. I was 106 in Oct 2018. Here's to better health and windsurfing competition!

Yep same problem here, at 97kg I think I was the heaviest in the Raceboard fleet this year, at least I had 9.5mtr rig, I can get onto the rail in 10 to 12knts with that size rig but 15 to 20knts is the sweet spot, I especially need to be well powered to not be smoked downwind.

Looking to get into the low 80's by the end of this year and its windsurfing competition that is the primary motivator.

Same, aiming for 90 in my case to be close to bottom of the super heavy weight division ??

Yea World sailing wants head aches , who's going to make the foils with strict tolerance just like the RSX finns

I think you guys under estimate the connections in the sailing world that some folk in the LT community have.

Well if numbers on the start line mean anything Aust should vote for the windsurfer LT
just let me remind you how big the class in Aust is , if you put Race boards , bic techno ,formula and foils together they still won't be larger than the windsurfer Lt

The RSX was a more modern design than the mistral it replaced, in particular the rig, the mistral was a more modern design than the lechner and the lechner was a more modern design than the windglider. The wally would be bucking that pattern by regressing back to the windglider era with that rig

Can you really see that 5.7mtr rig being selected as the new 2024 windsurfing equipment, I can't regardless of who's connected to who.

I was associates with windsurfing Qld back before the rsx got selected.

each state in Australia voted for which craft they felt should be used at the olympics so the awa could then nominate a class

Qld voted formula as did other states so the awa nominated formula.

rsx was selected. It had nothing to do with what class was a more modern choice. If it were then formula would have been selected as it was the epitome of modern racing windsurfers. The rsx was considered a better choice for a broad array of sailing conditions ie. It had a centreboard.

foils don't work in 5 knots.

kites don't either but they are selected for 2024 so don't rely on that counting foils out
