It's a shame about the strong west wind forcast because some of the outer breaks at Flinders would be ok on low tide (I think).

Is there anywhere along there that works on low tide? (in the morning) .. I've got a lunch and arvo do that I have to go to.

DJ, I've seen guys out at 1st and 2nd reef on the lower tides and maybe little noosa but havn't tried these myself as I usally only go there on the high. The strong winds forcast could ruin it though.

Yeah sorry, I forgot about those. Little Noosa is a no go on low. Needs at least 1.10m of water before it is surfable so it's best on the higher tides. 1st reef doesn't break that often and is best on a mid tide while 2nd reef is OK from a mid tide onwards but on a low low tide it is exposed. I've hit rocks on a bottom turn there when you kept saying just one more for like an hour.

Swell has come up a bit and wind still good. It's to hard to make a call on Lefts and Right yet as the swell is to small but it's meant to keep coming up over night. Nothing will be good in western port till after 11am regardless (due to tide) so I guess we can just see what we wake up to.

Is that cool with peolpe? Makes it hard to plan your day I guess.

I'd be happy with an early Inverloch beach or a 1pm Westernport. I've only ever surfed Flinders on a mid tide. Have you surfed Flinders on a low tide - is that worth considering?

That's cool.

I'll suss things out in the morning and I plan to go down to Pt Leo between 9-10am and see if there's enough water and waves for a paddle and also hope the wind's not howling.. Low tide about 8.30 rules out an early start.

It looks like a low has formed and they are so unpredictable.. Fingers crossed we get a good one.

Flinders might be good on the Pt Leo side because a west wind will make it too choppy on the Gunnery/Big Left side.

If there's enough swell it might wrap around the corner and we can paddle out from the pier side.. Anyone ever done that?

Low tide in western port is 10am. Flinders will be messy, either the gunnery or big left, cyrols etc. No swell gets around the corner near the pier but if you look at google maps Rest Ave down to Spindrift Ave is the closest the swell starts coming in. But the nearest wave to there is the farm that needs a high tide. Lefts & Rights is down towards poit leo from there but would be easier paddling from Pines.

The best bet for waves if you need to go early is west coast, but if you are keen for western port you could maybe paddle into lefts and rights at about 10am and by the time you get there you could probably get some wider ones.

Ah...just realised, Zapper Point is the first point towards flinders from the Pines and that gets waves on the lower tide so you could get waves there first then head to Lefts & Rights when the tide comes in a bit. Does that sound like a plan?

Swell has gone more to the south so swell should get in the bay better than it was today which is a good sign.

The swell never really got into westernport today, paddled down to zapper point with Brenno then back to the Pines lefthander, mostly knee high the odd waist high, maybe to much water with the high high tide.

Heard you headed down towards Inverloch Oliver, what were the conditions like down there?
Cheers,
Camo.

I noticed that yesterday in Western Port that the swell died off with the big high tide - it looked like it was too full of water. The tide was massive in Inverloch also, don't think I've seen the inlet so full.

I ended up going to Eagles Nest for a surf, it was blowing about 35knots and was pelting rain. Despite the cliffs there were gusts down there swirling around from all directions. At least the waves were clean and around chest high, where I was surfing - probably double head high in the open water - where I spotted a couple of keen surfers who looked like dots from the cliff tops. I managed to catch a few good rides but did spend most of my time getting hammered in whitewash. Actually, I spent most of my time today driving.

Further out at the point at Eagles Nest it was a bit over head high and about 8 surfers were providing a bit of a spectacle surfing all the way to the beach and running back around - but that was a bit exposed and a bit scary for me.

Yeah it was good to get wet and besides the bomb at the start that I stuffed up the rest were pretty small. BUT I did like the look of the left at Zapper pt. Another 1m of swell and maybe a bit less water and it could be really fun. It would be a great place for a bunch of us cos there's a good right as well. When I decided to head back I got a wave from out the back all the way to the beach which would have had to be 300m. Cam, did you wonder where I had gone? I turned around and I could hardly see you! Anyway, good to catch up and get some waves!

Na I new you were heading back.I tried the inside section after you left and then back to the Pines left until 6.45pm so it was a fun long session with the "just one more wave" happening over and over.
Thanks for the report Oliver ,keen to try that area myself soon.

The higher the tide the more swell gets into the bay (western port), hence why you can have knee high waves at crunchies at low then head high when the tide comes in. But I think the problem today was the swell had more west in it as opposed to yesterday where it was more south early then went more west late.

Also some spots will work better with less water as when it gets to deep it won't break.
If you look at the second reef cam on a super high tide it is rarely/never breaking which makes it look like swell has dropped although mid tide it's cranking.

Had an amazing surf early this morning at Woolamai. It would be physically impossible to be any glassier and we got a bank to ourselves for the whole surf (2 hours). It was about 1ft over head with the bigger sets close to 2ft over head. It was perfect, left was a racy wave that slowly fattned out as you got closer to the beach and the right was a slightly shorter fun fullish pealer. Got nailed a couple times early as the wave was packing heaps more punch than other waves I've been surfing later.

The other banks were busy but this was breaking out pretty far so no-one was on it. I wish I got waves like this every day!

That is what it was like here. There was a bit of glare on the water/mirror and it was really hard to pick the bigger ones before they were almost on top of you. So good!

Sounds great Bnaccas..

Just wondering what tide workd best for Woolamai?.. I know it can get a bit sucky and dumpy on low tide so I guess mid to high tide is best.

I've had some classic days there windsurfing it at over mast high on a good norwester.

Also.. Do you know if Cat Bay is getting any swell into it right now?

I've sailed there a couple times, low tide and SE winds. Never been ther on a NW but imagine it would be good.

Woolamai is hard to pick. A lot of variables but general rule for me is if the swell is small (waist to chest high) then it usually works better low to mid tide, and from there the bigger it gets the more water is needed on the banks to hold it. But if the bank is really well formed with deep channels either side then it may fire on lower tides. This is a general rule for the open beaches - east coast, Wooli, Kilcunda etc. (Powlett River is an exception)

Cammo surfed Right Point yesterday so he might be able to give you a proper report. My thoughts would be it would be pretty small, maybe around waist high on high tide. Swell is similar now to when Cam was there. Nice little swell for Friday but your better off on the point Leo side of the bay.

Yeah looking good for weekend. Saturday should be clean as well as Sunday morning at least. Swell looks too small for Roady but it should be clean enough for all sides of Pt Danger. Have fun guys!

I will be in Canada snowboarding unfortunately!

How did you go today Cammo?

It was a little big for me at Flinders early on - over head high - and I had to share it with 150 of my closest friends so after getting tumbled around a bit in the white wash I headed over to the Pines - got to love that place. Believe it or not I had it to myself as the tide was coming in, it was a twee shallow at first with 2 foot waves and short rides, but as the tide came in it had everything you could ask for. 3- 4 ft glassy waves that you could ride almost all the way to the beach, sunshine and some really pleasant conversations with the older longboarders, who started arriving in succession as the tide came in. One of the favorite topics was about Bombora which screened on the ABC last Thursday. There was one other Super there enjoying the conditions, a new mother who was getting in touch with herself again, riding the same board as mine. Definitely my most memorable surf sessions this year. Bring on Autumn!
