Na, but picture this, waves about waist high, maybe chest high on the sets, glassy early then light wind at end. Breaking left.

Now thats as good as a photo. Was fun but could have been bigger.

I'm heading down to Pines for a midweek surf tomorrow morning should be there at 6:00am - looks like some nice swell down there and hopefully it will be glassy. High tide is at 7:00am.

Sounds good Oliver but the forcast is for 10-15 East wind and that's onshore.

Cat Bay (the island) would be perfect but a fair hike to get there... Interested?

DJ trust me.... 6 - 8am will be still..... I'm banking on the wind not kicking in until after 10:00am. I'd love to head over to Cat bay tomorrow but I have to go to work. I'm setting my alarm clock now, while penning my email to my boss letting him know that I'll be in late. I have the wheetbix already in a bowl, my gear in the boot and "The Morning of the Earth" soundtrack running in my ears - can't wait.

The weekend is also looking pretty good for a surf, I'm heading over to Inverloch. Let's look at planning a couple of exotic surfs/paddles over the labour day weekend.

There won't be any waves Oliver. Hope for your sake I'm wrong but it aint looking very promising. Let us know how it is.

Check this site. You want the significant wave height to be around 2m with max around 3m minimum before you get waves of any size in western port. Thats on a high tide as well which you have tomorrow morning.

Cam, I might be able to get down there. If I can do a little shuffling at work I should be all good. Swell and wind looking the goods. I'll let you know how I go.

edit: wind not looking so good now. Will wait to see the updated forecast tonight.

Why take my word for it?

When you get up point your browser to www.triggerbrothers.com.au and see it for yourself.

That's what I did last night and I saw 2-3 foot clean waves at Crunchies.

Whoops, I replied to the wrong topic earlier - must have been half asleep when I wrote it. Really nice conditions this morning although the waves were a little on the small size 1- 2 foot - needed it.

The surf forecasts always say "... too small for Westernport ..." and they're always wrong. Those 2' grovellers at the Pines can be the best fun. You just have to lower your expectations a little (well, maybe a lot)

I've lost count of the number of times I've driven elsewhere to look for bigger waves then come back to the Pines and had a magic small wave session.

I think the surf forecasters base their predictions on guys riding a 6' board.

The only thing that prevents surfing at the Pines is no water on the reef. That's usually avoided by surfing the 2 hours either side of high tide.

They only get it wrong the day before or the day after a big swell. Usually a decent swell will hit earlier than expected or hang around a little longer and they struggle to get that right. Also western port only has waves ROUGHLY 70 days a year 2ft or over so the forecasters must get it right 90% of the time.

I hear ya but I usually keep an eye on bouyweather and then usually just rely on the real wave height bouy obsevations and swell direction. Real time observations can't be wrong. Some might not realise most if not all swell forecasts are taken from real weather/swell observations at places or bouys generally west of here.

Also are we talking 2ft faces or a surfers 2ft (say about chest/shoulder high faces)?
I guess we all look at slightly different conditions as being perfect or fun. For me the real fun starts when it's chest high.

I'm out. I got stuck in the office today and got a bit of catch up tomorrow.
I finish at 3 but generally not looking good for the arvo.

Sunday morning down Kili or woolamai perhaps? Swell looking good but winds hard to tell at this stage.

2' faces. Literally knee high grovellers. With a longboard you can stand on the reef and just push off and jump straight on the board. You still get a decent 20m ride, which is more than the tail hopping short boarders ever get. The early take-off of a SUP gives a much nicer glide onto the face and you get much more face time in poor surf.

It was pretty much like that yesterday, on a sup, however, with a bit of paddling and careful maneuvering we could get rides all the way to shore - around 200metres. It's a great spot even when the swell is tinsy.

Let's see how it pans out, but Sunday is looking good for a surf at my new favourite spot, Eagles Nest, or one of the protected breaks in Westernport - high tide is at 4:30pm.

Hey Oli, you should be able to get in the water at Eagles about 3 hours after lowtide as it is a very high hightide.

If the wind isn't as bad as forecast Lefts & rights could be on for once.

If we are thinking of heading to Eagles Nest we need to be wary it doesn't cope with crowds that well so we will need to be on our best behavior, maybe hang on the inside a bit etc. We could even get in at Suicide bomby and paddle to a number of different breaks (just a tiny bit closer to Inverloch).

Rich, any chance you'd head out of Torquay for a day?

Maybe I've just lucked out cause every time I've been there (Eagles Nest) I've more or less had the place to myself. Probably had my best ever session down there last Friday afternoon. It's a great option when it's blowing NW/W/SW cause it's surrounded virtually on three sides by 100m cliff faces making the scenic little bay glassy. If the swell gets to 4m as predicted then there will be a few other breaks that will open up there.

Let's see how the conditions pan out. I'm happy for you to make the call Brendan - you haven't been wrong so far.

Yeah interesting at the moment. The super high tide means the swell is getting in the bay but it still has a long way to come up over the next 12/24 hours. It will be definately windier tomorrow with less rain around. Crunchies and Suicide gets hit a lot more (with swell) as it sticks out in the bay more.

Fingers crossed the wind holds off. I'm leaning towards western port but so will everyone. I rekon the west coast would be the best option but not to keen to drive down there. See what happens with the swell later tonight.

Looking at it now I'm itching to get out there - it's so glassy. If the wind holds off there should be a few good options in Western Port tomorrow. What time are you thinking and what break is taking your fancy?

The forecast wind for now is similar to tomorrow arvo so it will be interesting to see what it does. I'm also not confident in the swell coming up as much as everyone is forecasting but fingers crossed.

I'm thinking ideally if the wind holds off Lefts & Rights around lunch time (in water around 12:30/1pmish) or otherwise an arvo session at pines are or Crunchies.

I'd prefer an early morning as well, but I'm easy. A good option could be Inverloch surf beach if meet there at 7:00am - means getting up super early for the 2 hour drive there. I love the early morning surfs.

I've got no idea what the wind will do tomorrow, but I've just got a feeling it's going to be still overnight. Another option is Flinders or if it's Gunna Matta we could go down there early. I don't know of anything in Western Port that works on a low tide.

No there isn't really. When its MASSIVE Crunchies is good on low tide but nothing else thats really good.
Lefts and Rights works about an hour after lowtide but it is a pretty low tide tomorrow so I would give it and hour and a half at least. so around 11:30am to 12pm at the earliest. And also if you go this early then swell would have to be pretty big to get in there. Will see if swell comes up enough.

I'll update tonight around 10pm.
