Did you go out yesterday and see the gaffers on Pittwater Andy ?? I decided to go out and try the headsail
that I've rigged as a self tacker. The wind got up to about 20knts and it worked a treat. Missus (who's Stbd
winch hand) is still getting over an operation so I thought I'd give her an easy time.

Sam you are a very caring skipper to rig a self tacker and give the missus an easy time. Great spot in the middle of the pond to spend an afternoon.
I watched the Couters from my mooring, great conditions for them. They are running their state titles out of Avalon for the weekend. Should be great entertainment with the southerly howling through Pittwater today.

Pancake Creek to Bundaberg in little Alibi. This is us going past the Bustard Head light.
Almost entirely under sail - including right up to the Bundaberg marina (following an inelegant and superfluous gibe at the mouth!).

An average speed of 5.3knts which means that, despite being last in, we win on handicap.
Managed the 68nm all in the light - another achievement.

Now in Bundy for a week sitting out the southerly and FINALLY fitting the water system.

Bundy is a great place; cafe, fish n chips,seafood and chandler at marina. Courtesy bus to town / sunday marketand from Burnett Heads IGA or pub. Great yachties bbq on friday and generally friendly. And that is before the rum museum!

It's turned cool with a little rain which is a nice break from the heat.

I reckon Cisco is right about this place!

I wouldn't get too cut up about your gibe, I've done the same thing at the Burnett mouth including a flash of inspiration where I thought it would be a good idea to try to slow the boom with my hand, not doing that again. I think it is easy to gibe there because of the change in current and swell direction due to the tide.

Glad you're enjoying Bundy, with a population less than 2% of Sydney or Melbourne you get to see the good and the bad all in one place, that's regional towns. The river is still recovering from the 2013 flood where the level in town rose to more than 7m above HAT and there appears to be no interest from the authorities in helping with clean up or rehabilitation.

Have also been meaning to say that I have enjoyed your posts and the exploits of all those that posted on the sailing north topic, it was a nice bit of an escape for those of us stuck in the one spot. At the end of next month I will be free of the responsibility of school aged children and hope to do a lot more Wandering.

We're cruising on the Lower East Coast of Tassie for a short while on Mawson. We came through the Dunalley Canal from Kettering, then on up to Maria Island, Triabunna, Orford so far. Tomorrow or Monday, on up to Schouten Island and Freycinet Peninsula. Pics of the southern coast of Maria Island and Haunted Bay. Lovely to take some time off and enjoy the boat for an extended trip. Note the new life lines, the old plastic covered ones have finally gone and we're another step closer to Cat. 5.

I'm at remote islands. Day 8 battery's are at 12.8 volts 90% charged. The windgen and solar has been working hard to keep the freezer going . Whiting have been slow on the bite due to dodge tides. Lucky I have plenty of meat and stuff!

Made the trip south for the first time from Newhaven down to Hobart for Christmas and New Years Eve back in the old home waters. Took about 10 days to get down, two weeks here, and hopefully take a bit longer to get home to Melbourne for Australia Day weekend. Few snaps from the trip down below - Refuge Cove, Deal Island, Flinders Island and Wineglass Bay.
Might have passed you on the water 2bish! How long are you out there? I'm probably heading back through the canal around the 12th of Jan to head home.

Hi mate, we've just pulled into Schouten Island for a night or two. Where are you today? We'll be aiming to transit the canal again around the 6th. Saw Wild Oates X1 passing north out on the horizon as we came in.

Sounds good! I'm just in at DSS for a week, will head back down to Norfolk Bay on the weekend for a few days before heading back up the coast so might even pass you on the way down there depending on when you come through the canal.

It is a serious rival to the S&S 34 in offshore capabilities in the deep keel version but certainly out classes the S&S in cabin room and comfort.

They look pretty damn sexy too.

Well Cisco you did a good job selling your mate's S&S, that one and this were the last two on my list! But once I saw and sailed the Van De Stadt it was a done deal. This one is a shoal draft but have found on this trip it still goes ok albeit with some earlier reefing.
Plus it's always satisfying to arrive at an anchorage and cruise past everyone else to a prime spot near the beach...
And no worries 2bish, Monk Bay is a beautiful spot. Hoping to get a night in there on the way back. Cheers!

Took the HT26 into Corner Inlet (Chinaman's Beach), down to Refuge Cove, then back to Port Albert. A great few days. The Refuge Cove yacht Hall of Fame had a name that caught my eye, not sure if there's more than one 'second Wind'.

Planned on sailing from Jacobs Well to Couran Cove for no reason.
SE around 8/10 knots with gusts up to 15sh (a beat) , against incoming king tide,
routine was starboard tack as far as possible to kangaroo island ,approx.
half mile , port tack ended back where I started .OMG unbelievably strong tidal flow. Refused to use iron sail so after about 2 hours and seemingly 100 tacks about zero gain went home. Got lots of waves from passing motors though .hmm perhaps they were fist shaking ,na. Plus side is I had heaps of solo tacking practice , even managed to go into irons twice. Need fingerless gloves .

Great to here she is back in the water after some TLC! I had a chuckle over your post, I think at some stage we've all been there, so we share some empathy! We were doing a return once from Hobart in a 44', wind and current on the nose. Blowing like stink, we spent 24 hours beating out to sea to try and clear a headland on the tassie coast, the problem was every time we headed back in we'd run into a knock from the land breeze and end up back to where we started from! I really started to hate that headland by the end of the day !
