First sail after breaking my leg. Was a great sail on our little windrush until bang! 50 cm crack along one hull and we started to sink. thankfully manage to sail it back to shore....

Good excuse to buy a trailer sailor?

We just had a few days around Batemans Bay. It was so crowded that we had to share an anchorage one night, and there was a third boat anchored only two miles away. By our standards that's packing it in.

The downside was that the weather was disappointing as far as sailing goes, apart from a splendid 10 mile or so reach down the coast to Burrewarra Pt, further south. We'd just started to go upwind into the westerly to get to Broulee when we came across someone drifting out to sea in a jet powered powerboat tender that had broken down. We pulled him aboard and towed the tender back to his big powerboat, moving about 2 knots slower than normal - those things create enormous drag.

The next day the forecast was for a ten knot southerly going SE; perfect for running under assymmetric back to the bay. Just like every other forecast down here this Christmas the call was wrong and we ended up motoring almost all the way home. It was forecast to rain for days so we came home and instead it seems to have been fairly nice weather. The weather gurus are normally pretty accurate but it all went pear-shaped the whole holiday season down here.

I think I'm in the Whitsundays but I'm not! Only one boat in sight and King George whitting on the bite!

Day out in Rockingham with the new recruits.

Litte mishap to start. I forgot to put in one of the hull bungs. Lucky we were still close to the beach.

Beautiful place to go sailing.

After spending a couple of months around Hervey Bay and Fraser Island, we are now heading south for a month or two. Today we pulled in at Bongaree, Bribie Island for a look around - what a great spot!

Totally different kind of place hey - helicopters, houseboats, people anchored too close, jet boats, Rivieras, busy, busy busy.
Mind you, I find it slightly exciting!
Quite a few yachts racing as we approached the Seaway too, kinda got caught up in it a bit .

Ah! Thanks Jode, I should 've twigged with the Riveria's reference. The houseboats threw me, I was thinking of the Jacobs Well stretch with all the colourful native wildlife.

We sailed from The Broadwater to Ballina today. Only saw 1 other boat - a cat headed north.
I saw 6 sharks on the way, all within a 5 mile stretch about 5 - 10nm north of Byron Bay.
All were headed north, about 5ft long, light brown, snub nosed with what appeared to be a fairly long tail fin. It's more sharks than I have seen in 12 months of living aboard, all in one day.

Young Tiger sharks.

No idea where tiger sharks breed. Like whalers, hammerheads and mako's they generally follow the feed. Salmon up the beaches and tuna out wider. There is one particular spot wide off here that I regularly caught tiger sharks at and I tried to avoid the area if I could. Nasty critters. thick tough skin and always sold for poor money. Often strange contents in their stomachs as well!
