Its around 25 to 30 mm shaggy ill epoxy it so it becomes part of the deck once i get my angles right ill plate under the deck ith epoxy saturated marine ply and also epoxy that to under the deck mount my winch to squeeze it up

Yanmar 2 QM 15s seem to be a bit thin on the ground. There are still a heap of them still thumping away in many of the smaller yachts like Compasses. Mine is still going strong (touch Wood) but if it ever sounds like it needs replacing I think I will bite the bullet and spend the money on a newer modern 3 cylinder diesel.

Diecon Engineering have imported used Kubotas that they marinise and sell for a reasonable price.

Wanderer66 has a Yanmar 3GM 30H (heat exchanger) in his Carter 33 which I have to say is a really smooth runner.

Sounds as good as gold HG. Just put it in.

Pedestals are in! This makes it harder for singlehanding, as the cockpit is about 3mtrs long to the winches, and of course with the wheels you are locked in position a bit . With the tiller, you sit a lot further forward, so you can reach the winches, ie: better for singlehanding. I know I can use the autohelm to trim and tack, so it is not all doom and gloom, but it was one of those choices that could go either way, whether or not it is a good thing, time will tell.

Yes, the wireless remote control fob for the auto helm does a similar thing to what you describe. If I go over and the fob moves more than 20 odd feet away (edit: I need to check the distance) from the base station, it will put the boat into irons. You can get strap on crew ones as well (no control) but for now I've only ordered two remote control fobs. The plan is to add more when needed .
Only three weeks to go before we float her for the first time, can't wait!

The worst thing about this job was the dust, i sealed off the area but still it took a couple of hours to clean up the dust from cutting with the angle grinder, not looking forward to doing the side decks!

Ive been doing the dust thingy for 18 months ,Andy every time you do some thing there a lot of time cleaning after maybe a day each time .





I spent the afternoon shaping this anchor winch deck plate ready for epoxy tomorrow shaped it to the deck and also in line with the anchor chain once it goes off I can drill through the deck and mount the winch . But I still want to fit a marine ply support under the deck for added strength should also be sorted by next weekend.

Yes Shaggy and it will happen after its epoxied in and the marine ply also epoxied in place under the deck Ill flare it out.
By the time I finished today that anchor winch plate is completely different on the under side . It will give the anchor chain a straight run from the bow roller to the anchor winch .
Except for the last top laminate at the rear its all gone so the winch chain has a straight pull from the bow mounted anchor roller. and takes into account the roll of the deck.
As you can see there is a height problem . I didn't want to drill or disturb the bow spit so I'm fitting a vertical directly behind and to one side slightly .
