yeah...that was me.....sorry

I do think about sharks when out the back for sure, there's a seal colony near here, and big Great Whites eatin em, but when I'm kiting, I'm in the air, going fast, sure maybe body drag (troll) for a while now n then, but when I'm scuba diving, swimming out into dark blue stuff sometimes spook myself.
I just think it's hilarious that guys are out kiting with their ZAPPERS, electrocuting themselves, getting SHOCKED when it seems no kiter has ever been taken by a shark. If that's what it takes to make you feel safe......
Maybe if I cut myself bad stacking on my board, body dragging, pissing blood everywhere, I might wish I had a zapper. Maybe I'll be the first kiter to get eaten? Only one way to find out.........

heres a shot of some of the crap we gotta put up with on the south coast...there's so many sharks here that we have to drag some of them out of the water to clear a spot to kite.

(And for those of you who are going to chastise me for dragging this poor little fishie around by the tail...i trod on a broken bottle or something two days later whilst kiting - and i'm out of the water for what looks like forever...karma, huh?)

Yeah SA is building a sharky reputation but i think u would be suprised by some of the good spots we have down here. I would definately say SA gets no coverage in the kiteboarding world. Theres kiters down here pulling all the moves, heaps of groms, maybe sometime someone will realise it is a great kiting spot.

Same temp as perth, but dont get those 30 knot seabreezes very often, we get nice 18-23.

Uber,
I heard that was actually a dolphin. By the shape of the fin, i'd agree. It's just the wave and shadows making it look bigger and more menacing.

Nice spotting guys! Still at first glance I would quietly be depositing darkies in my shorts. Also where there is dolphins I hear there are chompies too.

" Also where there is dolphins I hear there are chompies too."
What, in the sea?
Lovey, MAD photo! What the? That sounds **** about the gash, blood sure pisses out of yr feet doesn't it! High pressure! Gonna start wearing booties?
Yeah, we had a seal wash up last year with a chomp out of it about 50 cm wide.
Still reckon we're more likely to break our own necks getting lofted over carparks into powerlines and footy goalposts than getting munched.
I say make those ZAPPERS compulsory for any fraidy cats, you can all kite and ELECTROCUTE yourselves while the rest of us have fun!

I have come to the conclusion( after several coronas ) that sharks are cool, they scare people, there good to spearfish, they keep the crowds down, rub their skin on your leg and it hurts like hell when you go kiting the next day, fish and chips, make good stories etc etc.
If you are scared of sharks better not go in the ocean.

Who seen tonight's A Current Affair story on the Great Whites being caught on Stockton beach by the guys in 4WD's?

Now is anyone keen for that down winder from Birubi to Stockton? I know dachopper would be in it for sure, come on Nic what are you scared of, they were on Juveniles.

Maybe we could invent a new extreme extreme sport, Kite Game Fishing. Kite down Stockton beach with a hook and line attached to your harness, when you hook up head for shore and bring it in???

The local govt just banned them from doing this, from the hunter river to hawks nest.

Don't get to worried about the sharks when you kite at burubi or stocken beach guys . There is a much bigger menace that cruises that territory. Some of these way in at over two 2000kg and can been seen clocking speeds at over 100 kph. Yep, it's the 4WD. If your having a really bad day you may even get buzzed by one with a P-Plate on it . Scary stuff, lots of people hurt( some dead ) by these things on stocko. wrap up your lines.

Cheers

Hey Danza, I reckon hes going to stock the shark zappers in his store soon.
Thank gawd for the surf lifesavers awesome bunch. I must join my local kite spots surf clubs support what they are doing...good people.

I missed the CA report on the nuts in Stockton. Thank gawd they banned it. Im sure it only attracts more sharks to the spot. Especially if they are chucking burly in. Cheap feed for them.

You can keep Stockton! Too many chompies for my liking!

It is illegal to catch great whites - hopefully the b@stards copped a fine! I certainly don't like sharks up close while I'm in the water but the way over fishing is going soon they'll be more than just endangered, but extinct. Imagine a world without humans... that's what you'd get in the oceans with no sharks. Hmmm, somehow it doesn't seem THAT bad???

Right on Brooksy! Bout time someone mentioned Great White's are a protected species. Maybe Bird Flu will thin us out a little? But this isn't the place to get into genocidal evolutionary apocalyptic debate, I save it for the pub.

I got bit once really bad,
Here is the story...........

It was 3 years ago in NSW.
Was at LongReef North of Sydney and it was my first time kiting
Yep got bitten by the Kiting BUG!!
It did not hurt much but I can still feel it as bad as ever 3 years later.

You never know when you are going to be bitten so best worry about it when it does.
