It's cool, they're mammals, we're on the same team :D
I was going to put a disclaimer on that one, re knowing they are mamils lol ![]()
I would like to think they (Orca) wouldnt eat us ![]()

<div class="mw-content-ltr">Ichthyoallyeinotoxism, or hallucinogenic fish inebriation, comes from eating certain species of fish found in several parts of the tropics, the effects of which are reputed to be similar in some aspects to LSD. Experiences may include vivid auditory and visual hallucinations. This has given rise to the collective common name "dream fish" for ichthyoallyeinotoxic fish. The species most commonly claimed to be capable of producing this kind of toxicity include several species from the Kyphosus genus, including Kyphosus fuscus, K. cinerascens and K. vaigiensis.[citation needed] It is unclear whether the toxins are produced by the fish themselves or by marine algae in their diet, but a dietary origin may be more likely.[citation needed] Sarpa salpa, a species of bream, can induce LSD-like hallucinations if it is eaten.[1] These widely distributed coastal fish[2] became a recreational drug during the Roman Empire, and are called "the fish that make dreams" in Arabic. In 2006, two men who ate fish, apparently the Sarpa salpa caught in the Mediterranean were affected by ichthyoallyeinotoxism and experienced hallucinations lasting for several days.[3][4] Other hallucinogenic fish are Siganus spinus,[5] called "the fish that inebriates" in Reunion Island, and Mulloides flavolineatus (formerly Mulloidichthys samoensis),[6] called "the chief of ghosts" in Hawaii[7]
Norfolk island has a particular species which is highly recommended
I just can't understand how anyone can say that the increase in incidents is purely down to the number of people using the water, of course there are more GWs, it is a simple conclusion to reach being that they are a protected species.
Even if some cultures still kill them, there's still a whole bunch more including us, that used to kill them, not killing them anymore.
Seems to be a self delusion to even suggest that GW numbers haven't gone up.
Even if the experts say that 'there is no evidence to show numbers have increased', well it goes both ways, and hence there is no evidence to show that they haven't increased.
Anyway...
GWs apparently have excellent vision, smell and hearing etc, so it makes me wonder why nothing has been developed to play on those senses as a deterrent.
Surely a device or wetsuit which emits an odor or other type of signal which tells the GW that 'this is really distasteful' could be made.
Nothing likes to eat something which it finds horrible tasting and learns to avoid eating it, there's plenty of examples in the marine animal world which inspiration could surely be taken from.
That gets me thinking. I have a pet lizzard at home (Bearded Dragon) and we feed it crickets etc. Few weeks ago I found a grasshpper and put it in the tank. He gets feed crickets alot and I thought the grasshopper would be ok. Didnt touch it and I couldnt work out why.
The hind legs of the grasshopper were bright red and this is the reason that the lizzard wouldnt touch it because red is bad in the lizzard world.
Red = poison.
So I wonder if there is a colour that sharks dont like?
Exactly, hopefully there's a GW equivalent.
What about maybe a shark shield device that instead of transmitting an electrical signal, broadcasts the sounds of orcas?
That could attract orcas though I spose ;)
Fricken heck bigger fish with bigger teeth ![]()
My understanding is GW are colour blind
Good luck with that one..

GWS frequent in Tassie, population 500,000 how many water sport users and attacks?.
GWS frequent in South Australia 1.5 million how many water sports users and attacks?
GWS frequent in WA 2.5 million how many water sport users and attacks?
By the way really it is not a increase in attacks they happen most years. Nothing has really changed in shark numbers. It's not like suddenly we have a plague or a Real life Jaws loose on the beaches.
How many Whites have you guys seen from the shore in the past 12 months? I have seen 100 in a 3 year period and this was in a world known hot spot. It's a bloody big ocean and to only see Approx 100 in such a period tells me there are not as many as people are claiming and most biologists would agree.
Ok southace, your view is that there's no problem and nothing needs to be done.

Yeah, you're a creative thinker alright.
May as well give up, right?

No it's just I have more experience than most of you guys on this forum around sharks and I have been trying to give the best option to the so called problem not that 1 death out of 2.5 million in WA should be such a worry. But my understanding is to protect the children and sharks of the future this is important.
A body boarder was pushed off his board by a 4m pointer at bunkers yesterday. Bet that don't make the news, same as all the other close calls and sightings we getting down south.

Well I'm a Master skipper I got my Sea time with Cage diving GWS.... cray fishing, prawn fishing, oyster farming, pro squid and whiting fishing and longline and netting all in the southern ocean.....been round most of OZ on boats and my yacht and I also can build boats.
What do you do?
I wonder if we should cull some bees , they kill quite a few people.Probably a lot more than sharks!
You guys should probably call up Vic Hislop , hell fix the problem for you.Any one noticed the lack of flake for sale these days?
My mate in true GWS waters no fear! We surf and take the risks......this break is classed best break in OZ we risk the GWS the reef etc to do what we love.....how old are you 18?
Because you trivialise a big problem in a state in which you don't live. A problem that has killed 3 people I knew. Then you brag about how much of a water man you are,...is that enough reasons?

Sorry for your loss .....we also have had GWS deaths in South Oz also a lot of drownings it's all a part of the water life we choice.....if you don't want to take the small risk stay on shore....this **** is getting out of control I believe now there's a paranoid problem in the WA surf community not a increase in shark activity. To many no brain sharks entering the thread!

Yeah and your from QLD and VIc and his frozen shark show has obviously got to your brain.... Nothing has changed....other than that man are not out there to chain them up for your reinsurance. In human. Do you run over a snake when you see it on the road? Snakes kill.

You got that spot on.

Yeah and I was told of a shark report today at a local beach I was at. Saw nothing and when I asked what it was about (on the net) was told it was just some guy who thought he saw something.
Oh and I love the style, someone who has an idea and you say to go away. Real classy. ![]()

What do you do?
Ah, so you're partly responsible for the over fishing which is leaving the sharks hungry, you also helped acclimatize the GWs to humans as well.
And tell us, how much bycatch did you kill with the longlining and netting?
Is your defence of the GWs some sort of repenance?
Because you trivialise a big problem in a state in which you don't live. A problem that has killed 3 people I knew. Then you brag about how much of a water man you are,...is that enough reasons?

Oh and you live in Christmas Island merry Christmas kite boy are you over 18?
It's ok blame me it's my fault sorry!
Too close to the truth huh?
Your calls for conservation and you're one of the exploiters and pillagers.
It's getting kinda boring you guys are just going round on circles nothing has really changed we have the stats 2.5 million in WA and one death from a rouge shark and you guys are looking for a solution ? Cull ? That's going to happen yeah right.
I put my idea on the table and started to get bagged. Only tried to help you guys out but I feel some **** on me.....so I now I give up safe travels and good luck finding your solution to a problem that does not really exisit.
Sorry you highness, we should be more grateful as you had the only solution to a problem that doesn't exist which has in your eyes an acceptable number of human deaths attributed to it.
