Now back to the topic......... ![]()
Oh and any GW larger than 3 meters comes wondering about...... elsmasho.![]()
I don't think you should be so quick. I Iive in Bunbury WA. In the last few years I've noticed a big increase in the shark population. I've been towed by a GW on my spear line, every time I go fishing I catch sharks and guys I have known from the dive shops have died. It's a really pronounced increase hey. Not only that the amount of near missus that have been reported by mates and the local forums has been huge. It's been proven that the general eastern seaboard shark population and the western seaboard shark populations are separate entities and us true sea going types in the SW make up a small percentage of the population. It's a obvious problem that's being glazed over by arm chair experts and greenies.

It's ok blame me it's my fault sorry!
Too close to the truth huh?
Your calls for conservation and you're one of the exploiters and pillagers.
No wrong I did tucker trips done it all cause I love the ocean! I can share my experience with anyone in the industry what do you do? Boat people wipe there ass?
Longlining and netting for a bit of tucker?
Get your story straight mate.
Not a arm chair expert thanks...... I worked with them for several years I also work with crocs. Whatever enjoy your pizza and keep watching shark week and live in fear! what happen to the surf icon NO FEAR? Well I can't help you I just tried !leave it in your hands you all seem to be such experts...most probably never seen a GWS that's cause there are bugger all around.

You don't give up.... So please tell what you do in Christmas Island? You don't know what a tucker trip is? All my mates are ex long liner, net fishermen.... All not making a dollar anymore from the industry as the ocean is getting reaped....maybe not the same in Christmas Island are you sure your not wiping bums there mate?
That's rich, the harvesters complaining about a problem they contributed to.
Still waiting to hear about all your bycatch from your fishing days Mr Conservationist.
And sorry, not interested in your bum, thanks anyway.

Nice job ignoring the spearo from Bunbury who has real experience.

Maybe all the sharks have gone to the west to escape the drum lines on the east......sorry but if you spear fish well for a start your entering shark domain. I clearly don't think whites have some how overpopulated in the past years it's just attacks on people at the wrong time and the wrong place that causes grief.

Nice job showing how little you know and understand.
Your whole back story is really a load of bs, isn't it?
How much googling did you do to come up with it?

Go fly your little kite Christmas Island teen. Don't forget boat people bum wipes before bed.
Sorry you highness, we should be more grateful as you had the only solution to a problem that doesn't exist which has in your eyes an acceptable number of human deaths attributed to it.
Has to be said again your lord southace.
I used to spear but like most people down here have stopped since the 5 attacks in a row. I still dive for cray but wear a shark shield as does everyone I know, even when surfing. All the local dive shops are going under. Three years ago you couldn't get a spot at the boat ramp at the start of cray season and now no ones diving or even putting out pots. It's even screwing up mates with fishing charter boats. And there no problem?
It's all gonna change as soon as kids get taken hey and that's only a matter of time. Even if we don't cull at least lift the fishing ban and do what we need 2.
Excellent site for those who think sharks are colour blind.

Well done lad your so bright....... Now go wipe them boat people bums.
Run out of stories eh?
Don't be upset that we can all see through your bs.

Seems you spend a lot of time just googling while your waiting for more boat people to arrive. So tell me have you just turned 21 years old u seem to be so experienced on marine Eco systems and related topics did you learn in at uni or google?
There is a few bordering on racist remarks you have made about asylum seekers southace. Best to keep that stuff out of the forum.

Ok southace, your view is that there's no problem and nothing needs to be done.
You don't need to contribute to the discussion anymore.
No it's just I have more experience than most of you guys on this forum around sharks and I have been trying to give the best option to the so called problem not that 1 death out of 2.5 million in WA should be such a worry. But my understanding is to protect the children and sharks of the future this is important.
What is it you exactly do for a job southace? Is this known shark hotspot you work at located in queensland
Well I'm a Master skipper I got my Sea time with Cage diving GWS.... cray fishing, prawn fishing, oyster farming, pro squid and whiting fishing and longline and netting all in the southern ocean.....been round most of OZ on boats and my yacht and I also can build boats.
What do you do?
Master5 fish and trade coxswain a med2 rescue diver, abolone diver..... In west oz..... I'm now on the mines and do sea trials/ boat delivery on time off site.....
Some very interesting docos on Discovery last night, seems we are not alone in our problem. And seal populations and increase in water use were the two highlighted problems.
Also looked as there were some very good tagging and reaserch programs happening, but not here sadly.
www.elasmo-research.org/education/white_shark/sensory_bio.htm
Absolutely fascinating information at the site above, goes through the whole sensory spectrum for GWs.
In short, they can see in colour and have excellent vision, in fact all of their senses are extraordinary.
They are also thought to be quite intelligent, based on the level of sensory input that they deal with and the observed interaction between each other. rather than just being eating automatons.
They can see us, hear us, smell us and feel our motion in the water long before we're even aware that they are around.
So what makes the difference between one cruising by and one day having no interest in people, to the next time that it decides to take a bite?
Could it be similar to us, in that we're more likely to be tempted to have a bite of junk food due to the convenience of the drive-thru, the longer since when we last had a proper meal?
But based on the info at the site above, there must be some way to exploit their sensors to discourage the big guys from having a bite before they get close enough to do so.
The sea otter example was interesting...
Doggie, why didn't you tell me about this thread!? So much ignorant fresh meat to tear into.
I've been waiting for this moment...![]()

Haha I thought you were staying away on purpose ![]()
I thought the battles were over and now we're exploring factual information to come up with creative solutions.
Haha I actually don't have the energy for another battle ;-)
Im over it as well but some of the docos I watched last night were amazing!!
It had to belive how agile they are for such a large animal.
Those docos are great for a visual feast but awful at their information delivery. Really awful.
I need to pop into the marine research center up near trigg later today. If I get a chance I'll TRY and get a scan of the research paper that was released at the start of the year that breaks down in the detail the sensory processes involved in White Shark predation. The research was intended to help prevent attacks on surfers. I don't think it's available online yet, but I could be wrong.
