I have met people that think McGowan should open up the place, but a lot more that are happy with his approach.

A vaccine passport? Well, it does reduce the chance of spreading Covid, and from what I read it was only applicable to exempted travelers anyway, which is pretty limited at the moment.

Personally, I would be happy if he kept up the isolation for another year.

My guess is because the vaccine is keeping the virus at bay in most of your body, so you are not coughing, sneezing, and otherwise ejecting a tonne of virus particles over everyone. Sure, its sitting there in your respiratory system, so its going to get out, but you are not generating as much as if you had no protection at all.

I think someone would have to be intelligent and able to evaluate things to see that Israel has such a high rate of vaccination that the stats for vaccinated people are going to show up in ICU cases. Someone that just posts a copy of someone's twitter post is probably not that person.

It would make sense that the more vulnerable people are likely to get vaccinated earlier, and therefore are more likely to show up in the ICU, despite being vaccinated.

I still think 'to hell with it', and we get all the people that dont want to be vaccinated to get together and get someone to spread it to them. They will become immune and we can all just get along.

Immune or dead, but currently dead is not palatable to government hence the lockdowns.

Given time and a higher rate of vaccination the death rate hopefully is kept low like in the UK. With a very high vaccination rate they have moved forward to virtually fully open. Yes, some of the vaccinated are getting sick, but not dying at the rates of the unvaccinated which is great to see.

Most of those in hospital are oldish. Israel concentrated on the old people early on and ~ 95% are vaccinated. So the 5% unvaccinated account for nearly half the hospital cases.

One of Norman Swan's statistical connections reckons less than 10% of Aussie's are stubborn anti-vaxxers. A 90% vaccination rate should get the R value below 1.0, so never mind, it's not worth wasting too much energy trying to talk them around.

It may suit you to now to maintain isolation for another year but the problem is principle that is getting violated, its like the free speech argument, I would rarely agree with Bono or Logman or even yourself and it may suit me to suppress your opinions but I would always argue for your right to disagree and express your opinion that no matter how opposed to the idea I was.

Its the principle that is wrong, passports to cross borders in your own country, that should ring alarm bells and I am not hearing any opposition from either of the major parties. Not good.

Yes, I understand that we 'should' be able to freely travel between and even around states, but there is a pandemic on, and in this case I think isolating WA doesn't negatively affect as many people as it benefits.

I, like most people have effectively put parts of their life on-hold, but its something that I can't see any alternative to and hope that this time next year things have gotten better.

At the moment we aren't isolated from all states, and in theory can visit Tasmania and NZ (if NZ would have us).

I am arguing that 'vaccine doesn't work' is not correct, although from IanK's post, we can see that its efficacy level is falling. The level it works is arguable, but it does 'work' in some fashion.

A month or so back I watched the testimony of a WHO whistle blower who worked on a WHO team to develop their pandemic response strategy. From memory this involved at least two years work.

She stated that the policy was completely abandoned at the outset of Covid 19.

There were many public health advisors who criticised the strategy of lockdowns including Scott Atlas who was one of Trumps policy advisors. His advice was not only overwhelmed but he was horrendously vilified in the press.
