Hey Woody and JC,

How can we get a certified receipt to those who pay cash?

Phill

Hi Phil, preference would be to make donations through the website but if that doesn't work - no problem to create a receipt on SUP Vic letterhead.

Your best bet is probably to bank the donor's cash in your own account and then pay into the online system with your credit card, but enter the details of the cash donor in the appropriate fields along with their email address. The credit card details and donor details don't have to match. The donor will be emailed an official receipt for tax purposes.

If anyone that is not paddling and would like to make a tax deductible donation to support Sandringham Hospital and the paddlers, please go to http://www.givenow.com.au/sdmhmadpaddle

We have raised nearly $7,000 to-date but would like to raise $25,000 for a mobile ultrasound unit for the hospital.

How about considering a donation to DJ for his great board reviews and videos on this forum!

p.s. there are still a few places left if anyone would like to join us next weekend.

Fair enough, the nurses are underpaid, hence the industrial action, but the doctors? That's ordinary. Open up your wallets, you overtrained quacks!

Hand blisters... Ouch! .. If you are concerned about what paddling for 5-6 hours might do to your hands you should consider this...

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/How-to-stick-on-paddle-grip/?SearchTerms=Naish,paddle,grip

It's cheap.. Easy to fit.. Can be removed easy after if you want to.. and will keep your hands as soft as a baby's bottom..

That's great Jonathan, the Mad Paddle wouldn't of been quite so mad without DJ there,
I'll jump in first with a mad wind prediction, looks like a slow moving high will cross over the state through the weekend with plenty of rain around the end of the working week,so I'd say light southerly winds for paddle morning.

How are you getting this information? Is there a way of finding out who has donated on your behalf?

I'm having the same issue.
People providing sponsorship $$$$ are meant to fill in your email address on the online form so that you are notified of their donation.
I'm finding that even though I asked people to fill this in, they miss it.

I asked Felicity Frederico what the go is with this.
I think she might be able to send you a spreadsheet with all donations so that you can go through it and add it up yourself.

Hopefully they get some more donations coming in this week.
I donated some money this morning on soemone else's behalf and the total was well short of the target.

Here's the link again to the donation site if anyone is feeling generous.

Come on people open those wallets and let the moths out....it's going to a good cause.....and its tax deductable!!

Hi all,
with a view to tapering my training for this paddle I will be doing two hours up and down the Patterson river (from the boat ramps near the mouth up to the freeway) on Tuesday evening from around 17:45.
If anyone would like to join me so we can a) meet each other and b) start to get an idea on the range of speeds we will have I will be putting in at the boat ramps around 50 metres upstream of the coast guard/ water safety guys' building at 17:45. sunset will be around 8 ish so lights may be necessary for the last bit.

Geelong & Melbourne Forecasts look pretty good at the moment;

Melb;
Sunday 18 March
Summary Min 15 Max 22 Morning shower or two.
Melbourne area
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers during the morning. Winds southwesterly averaging up to 25 km/h tending southerly up to 30 km/h during the afternoon.

Geelong;
Sunday 18 March
Summary Min 13 Max 21 Morning shower or two.
Geelong and Surf Coast area
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers during the morning. Winds west to southwesterly averaging up to 30 km/h tending southerly 20 to 35 km/h during the afternoon.

It seems to suit the intended Indented Head to Sandringham run.

Seabreeze charts indicating a southerly shifting to the south east which would be a Mornington start. I guess we'll be guessing for a couple days more before there's any clarity in the forecast. Either way, we'll get a decent 30km+ paddle.

Here is the SeaBreeze chart

You certainly wouldn't want any east in it heading from Indented Head to Sandringham. The direction shown on the chart would be perfect for a Mornington start though. Would definitely make the Port Authority happy if we didn't have to cross the channel!

The tricky part is that the SW swell from the day before always seems to hang on and constantly push you in towards Frankston even if the wind is the right direction. That stretch of open water from Mornington to Ricketts Point always seems to be quite fickle and tricky to catch runners on.

But as you said PT, too early to tell anything yet.

Too much east just means paddlers will be holding their hot dogs with their right hand.

IMO it's much better/easier paddling in the direction of the waves/swells than it is to go in the direction or the wind.. Fingers crossed for a glass-off..

All those doing the MAD paddle this Sunday should check out this.. www.capecodbaychallenge.org/

They have done three CCBC (Cape Cod Bay Challenge) now.. and there's is a similar distance to ours with the same type of challenges.

I have asked them to help us with ours with any advise that they might have to help.

Here.. www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=15297.msg137427

It will be interesting to see what advise they might have for us.

PT Woody, it looks like the Mornington course option is slowly winning the arm wrestle... as forecasts get adjusted slightly each day!
See you on Sunday, well before we see the sun!

The decision will be made by the safety panel which I think includes coast guard and port authority types so the organisers will be very well advised.

It will be a bit of a bummer if there is no hint of west in the wind.
It would be pretty cool to paddle straight across the bay.

I have been reliably informed that one of these has been generously donated by Walk on Water and is up for grabs at the auctions at Sandringham after the paddle......the 12'6" I believe.
WoW!!
