Didn't go anywhere on my boat but I did crew on another in the St Helena Cup. Approx 70 entries, light winds Saturday but blew a hooley on Sunday. 25 retirements, couple of yachts laid over and one lost a rig.

Below is a pic of the Didi26 I sailed on. Great little ply epoxy boat, we retired on Sunday, she was taking a pounding in the Moreton Bay fetch to windward and we didn't want to break her.

She looks like a great little boat Cammd!

It's a rather intriguing design, it looks like someone put a Young topsides on a larger volume hull. I like the separation for the loose luffed sails, I'd be tempted to try three sail reaching if it had the ballast for it.
Does the little traveller do the job?

Island hopping for the next 5 days. Reaching/ running conditions will be a blessing as I'm no fan of these self tacking headsails.

Hi BB,
I hope she puts her back on the market one day, I'd be tempted. The Oceanis 45 we're bringing south has the same beam and is also a Finot Conq design, so it's been interesting making comparisons between the two designs.
Eg: I don't like the displacement-only mode of sailing. I do like the swim platform and well thought out cockpit space.

I really like the single handed nature of the sail plan (ridiculously good), I don't like the lack of sail fine tune control.

Overall I'm very impressed with the boat, has a lot of positives and not many negatives!

I went and dropped the pick near the local spot where the kids jump in. Just enjoying my cup of tea and the LRB down below when this young lad starts doing brief stints of doughnuts on his jet-ski then stopping and looking longingly up at the bikinis up on the cliffs.

I felt like saying "mate, if you go and talk to them you'll probably have more success, and it'll be a lot quieter".... But I remembered being 18 myself and went back down below with a smile...

Saw this and thought of someone.

I'm not sure this was charted. Looks like all the South Channel markers are being replaced, most of them have new piles like this right next to them.

Left Tangalooma Saturday Morning and anchored in behind Double Island Point at about 10 last night.
Up early and crossed Wide Bay Bar this morning and now anchored at Tin can Bay enjoying a hot omelet for Brekky.

It's racked and ready to go but I haven't used it yet. Whenever there has been a bit of wind we have used it to do passages.

At Middle Percy now, had a game of chicken with a humpback off Cape Townsend yesterday. Don't mind saying I flinched first. Goose winged doing 7 or 8 knots with a pole and a preventer, whale travelling in the opposite direction, I was as deep as we could go without backing the main and the whale was coming towards us from the windward side. Was a bit scary, it passed within 10 mtrs, felt like we could touch it. Would have been a big thud if we collided.

Had a great sail from the Duke Islands today. Beam reach with the code Zero. Transited the Lola Montes Passage between the Islands at slack water early this morning. Very rugged and pretty.

I'd be tempted to stick that boom down below after a rinse with some fresh water. Seen 'em get sticky....

I have winches and blocks on board that can sort that type of thing.

Years ago I fell for the stupid idea of the hybrid boom. Aluminium wishbone and carbon fibre tail.

I'm sure they worked well on the freshwater lakes of Europe.

I remember trying to separate mine by dropping the boom over a no-parking sign and hooking the other end to the towbar of my magna wagon and pulling on it.......

Sunday, South down the Derwent, tacking into the SSE wind, and into the top of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Spent the night being rained on, tucked up in Barnes Bay after the SW change came through at about 17:30. Monday rode a very changeable West to SW'ly back up to just short of Blinking Billy, everything from 0 to 27 knots and swings of 40+ degrees. Then a NW/NNW change which had me beating across to Howrah beach on the East side in very variable winds (directions and strength) before it settled in at 20+ at which point I was sufficiently close to home, I dropped sail and motored in.

Lovely couple of days sailing. Much needed as a long time since last out.

My sister and brother in law have been down your way until a few months ago on their Valiant 40 Mischief. Have you met them?

I'm not a local. I was only down in Tassie for a few days on this visit (flew down to my boat). it was the first time in several months.
Hope they had a great time. It's a fabulous place to go sailing, when the weather's right.

Sheltering in Barnes Bay, getting every wind you can think of, giving up and motoring - it seems like you got the Tassie experience I got - awful place to sail, great place to hike.
