Sam, can I just add to the above comments about tacking into the wind....don't leave the tack to late (particularly important in the close quarters of Pittwater), if for some reason you cant make the tack (not enough speed, you muck it up somehow or for any other reason) & you are forced to Gybe(may sure there is plenty of room to gybe if needed). If you have left the tack (into the wind) too late, a gybe may put you on the rocks or into some others obstruction. Hope I have explained this ok, cheers
Thanks Toph, I'll try that next time out.
The decision wether to gybe was looming, I could have scraped out of the situation by gybing however
with the breeze quite strong I had enough speed to tack. It did illustrate however to observe and keep
your mind on the job, the distance between having plenty of room to 'holy crap' can be very short.
