Sam, can I just add to the above comments about tacking into the wind....don't leave the tack to late (particularly important in the close quarters of Pittwater), if for some reason you cant make the tack (not enough speed, you muck it up somehow or for any other reason) & you are forced to Gybe(may sure there is plenty of room to gybe if needed). If you have left the tack (into the wind) too late, a gybe may put you on the rocks or into some others obstruction. Hope I have explained this ok, cheers

It's hard to get good photos of your own boat under sail, but a guy come over to our boat this afternoon in Nara inlet and said he got the 3 above photos while we sailed past and handed them to me on a memory stick to down load. These are the first photos I've got of my boat under sail.

I took a photo of a boat under sail the other day but we were parting ways. Made me think that it would be nice if there was a site you could post these photos with the time and place and any other details (name, make, identifying features) for the owner to pick up. Of course, it would rely on the goodwill of the photographer to bother doing this. Your photographer, Jode, was very generous!

A very fast sail to rose bay and back to dump all my stuff off the sold bluebird. 2 reefs in on way home 6.3 kn average zpeed

Friday night sail from Yorkeys knob to Fitzroy Is. 1st ever night sail for me was exhilarating and a bit nervous too, essentially single handed with a 13yo. Had a tanker ,freighter and pilot to deal with a couple of k out from the channel leads while under sail. Had to motor sail a couple of times as the arvo sea breeze died and grew. Made it to Yarrabah then dropped the sails and motored the rest. If you know Cairns you'll of guessed the wind was on the nose...... LOL
Missus ferried across sat morning. With the rest of the tribe. Sat on the sea grass at 5m deep this morning and ate sea grass with a turtle. Think his name was Frank. I've seen a heap of turtles but never sat so close you could look into his eyes. On shore tonight and got comp'ed a room for next time, woohoo!! Sail home tomorrow. Hoping For a beam reach 15kn.??

Anchor light has f'd up so running steaming and stern, oh well what can you do.

Another job....... At least I can drop it singlehanded.

All depends on the weather and I note that NSW has some 5m swell coming next week which will effect us up here in sunny QLD.

I didn't on the way over as we left at 6:15pm and it was dark at about 7. Can you troll in the dark?

On the way back we managed to have 6 lovely reaches all the way home. It was about 4hrs over all. Top speed maxxed at 7.8kn, going down a wave LOL. We never really dropped below 5kn and sat at 6 and that was towing a tinny. So pretty happy, nice way to finish an awesome weekend.

We trawled home and managed to hook the tinny outboard leg. It's a little 3.3hp and sometimes drags the prop and spins it because its in neutral, thereby wrapping the line around the prop.... Not happy Jan! Anyway luckily Mr Ray was steering for us so pulled the tinny alongside and fixed it. Certainly not textbook but ....

You can troll anytime you like. Whether it is likely to get a result or not is another thing.

What I do know is that I have pulled in plenty of mackerel between Yarraba and Fitzroy Island.

We had the first offshore race of the season on Sat. I thought we did ok against the larger 40 and 46 footers but we still came last in the first race because I went through the finnish line on the wrong side of the race control boat and had to loop around to cross the line correctly. (note to self, take notes at the briefing) and even though we did well to windward on the second race we lost places on the downwind leg to end up last again in a reduced field.

Yes, same, but I see it now, well constructed bit equipment, would be a pleasure to have on any boat
