The New Seabreeze Is Coming!
Hello fellow weather junky!
This is so exciting- it has been 29.5 years since the first person ever looked at Seabreeze.com.au. The internet was a small place.
It's been an amazing journey. Like being strapped to a rocket, watching the site go from one user to eventually being used by millions. We've been ducking and diving to keep the show going.
Somehow, Seabreeze has managed to stay relevant & stay online as the world changed. First 'dumb' phones, then 'smart' phones, the invention of "social media", the re-invention of Apps, and numerous local and overseas copycats and more. Still here, and thriving.
It would never be possible without the fantastic support of people like you - the Seabreeze community. It's such an enjoyable moment to meet crew and see eyes light up, and the stories of how the little green arrows have impacted your world. Without the support of people like you, who enjoy the site, we would have lost the opportunity to serve years ago - a heartfelt thanks to you!
And onto the news - Seabreeze has been rebuilt new technology and now many new shiny things are now possible.
I use and love the site, like you, and have endevoured to keep everything as similar as possible to prevent "change shock"
The big question - Why!? It works, why change it?!
I'm with you! Unfortunately, technology never rests. When I first built Seabreeze.com.au in 1997, many of the technologies available today didn't exist. No smartphones. Dial up modems. Certainly, no NBN. I sent a letter in an envelope to register seabreeze.com.au!
Things need to keep rolling forward or quite simply, the technology we use to built this place simply doesn't exist anymore and we become stuck in time, or worse - just like that , or it simply wouldn't work any more. Like steam engines, nokia phones and hair styles, we need to keep up with the times.
Apart from the new design, there are so many new weather innovations we're excited about. There's a great new national rain radar. Numerous new visualisations. The site is faster, more secure, many new weather views, a new modern messaging system, modern forums experience, and a greatly improved Buy&Sell, anti-spam and anti-scam. And so much more to come - initially just wanted to get the base functionality done, but we couldn't stop!
A major update to the mobile apps on the way to keep everything consistent. Always bugged us how they've diverged so much, but .. again legacy tech was holding us back. Now we are free again .. at least until it all changes again!
You don't have to change: We'll be keeping this 'classic' design going for as long as we can, so it's up to you whether you use the new or old design - switch between the two as you wish - we want you to vote which one is better with your feet, not by us forcing the new design upon you.
As you can imagine, it's been an epic job and one we've been working on for quite some time, so both excited and anxious about this release.
Hope you like it, and feel free to report any errors, ideas, suggestions, comments, queries or criticisms in the suggestion box - they will be read, and all will go into new developments.
Once again, thank you so very much for your support - enjoy the new site!

p.s. A project like this doesn't happen in isolation, and many thanks to all my supporters - never underestimate the power of encouragement - many thanks (in no particular order) to Stu, Rob, Pat, Evan, Bryce, Leanne, Jason, Luke, many other supportive mates over beers, and the following Seabreeze members who took time to help get things right (apologies to any I've missed!):
