About 10 years for me with no button failure with mix of chlorinated pool water and salt at least 3 times a week. I doubt the pressure rating would change this failure. Not sure what is causing it in your case. I do nothing special with mine to care for it.

Seconded.

Of note - there could indeed be situations where water enters the watch buttons. A simple crash (into the water) will increase the pressure being forced into the seals by x10 fold (or more).

ergo ... dont crash ?

Leaving aside what handicap class that is and whether it's very serious by big-boat standards (most modern F-Ps are full cruisers) Is their foam core 100mmm or so thick and of soft foam, as it is in boards?

I am curious as to why you apply the 100mm (aka some large thickness) to this discussion? I am trying to understand how this applies to the discussion of pushing-tech-forwards - please elaborate.

The thickness of the foam is somewhat immaterial wrt. sandwich construction - beyond a certain thickness vs stiffness ratio. In fact the thicker the foam, the less stiff it becomes because the sheer forces ( of one skin vs the other ) are further apart so the net-stiffness is lower.

I did not take the discussion out of context - I replied to your actual words. There was not a single thing you said that would have let anyone know that you were just talking about stuff that is only available for weekend warriors to purchase.

I dont need to specify weekend-warriors - this is the seabreeze.com.au website, not sailgp.com

As far as I know none of the chargers had any thermostat. I'm making my own and thinking on including one to be able to put the devices on charge careless.
cheers

It will depend on the brand, eg: the Texas Instruments BQ51050BRHLR has a "TS/CTRL" pin which you connect an NTC (negative temp coefficient) / thermistor.

Would any serious big racing boat be built of thick soft foam and the layups we use in boards? They've been into pre-preg Nomex for decades now.

Yes. Fountaine-Pajot - as a handicap class.

Umm, sorry, what? Some big racing boats are arguably more weight-restrained than

Hell no. Context matters.

You took this mass discussion completely out of context. This discussion is specifically about boards that weight less than 10kg, that are available for us to build or purchase. We are discussing adding 50g to a 6kg hull vs adding 50 grams to a 10 tonne boat.

There are indeed some big-boats which are designed to absolutely minimise strength - that isn't in question. These boats are not available for a weekend-warrior to purchase, so any comparison is silly.

Whether the footstrap plug is metal or plastic or something else, isn't the main question -> what matters is how well the plug bonds to the substrate.

- If there is a significant difference in stiffness between two adjacent materials, it will have a natural-fracture-boundary.
- If the surface preparation of the plug is not suitable for structural-adhesion, then it will have a likely-fracture-boundary.
- _all metals_ have some form of rust - if there is any water or air contact to that surface, will cause it to rust to some degree. Rust increases the thickness of the surface which creates a stress point, which results in possible-fracture-boundary. **

** Aluminium and other metals are said to not-rust because the surface layers create a natural ceramic. That ceramic is still an oxidation of the Al metal. Same for Zinc, titanium, etc. It is still rust, just labelled differently.

Big boats have marine-grade stainless steel cleats and fittings. Generally speaking those dont fail, while still being bonded into fibreglass/carbon hulls. So it is possible to do the bonding/embedding with sufficient strength. But big boats aren't weight-constrained so they can use suitable construction techniques.

Windsurf gear is extremely weight-constrained, which limits what we can do to have effective bonding.

@veton - do you mean to write "thermostat" ?

Yes - all wireless charging _requires_ a temperature sensor at or close-to the coil. If the case is melting it is clearly getting too hot, but that isn't the main reason...

... you do not want to cook the batteries. Ever. Unless you want some pyrotechnics.

@MobZ - if you aren't desperate to get to Burrum before Friday, you would be better off to stay in Sunshine Coast for the few days.

Tuesday will be the windiest day this week. You could choose one of:
- Bongaree (South Bribie) for a long-distance sail, typically 2-3km per run / 6km per lap
- Bribie Bar (Golden Beach) for a possible speed run late in the arvo Monday / Tuesday, need big gear
- Golden Beach - short runs, be very aware of sandbars

You could also look at Lake Cootharaba (launch at Boreen Pt) IMHO a bit nicer than Weyba - maps.app.goo.gl/FdFc1w9xRq9b6BzH9

Wind meters - holfuy.com/en/map/wind&la=-26.64087&lo=152.93383&z=9.0

Best wind meter for Golden Beach - IMHO very accurate measured-at-meter vs usable-while-sailing, and its forecast seems to be very close to what we end up getting. wind.willyweather.com.au/qld/sunshine-coast/north-west-10-beacon.html

This was Saturday's track at a 0.1m - managed 80km of distance, about 12-16kn. .... ie: there is plenty of water even at the lowest tide.

I did need to look where I was going so as to not hit a sandbank - easy to see the depth, as shown on the tracks.
Glassy water for the most part, a nice speed-run, no waves this day.

Nobody has said it so I will -> your boards are too big for your weight.

You can go freeride or stay slalom - given you description, it wont matter too much for the shape.... what will make a difference is the size.

For context - I am currently 69kg and use a 107L - it is great for really light wind, but it I use a smaller gear as soon as it gets powered-up.

This statement also applies to your 96 Kode - it is too big for you when using a 5.2m

Any synthetic material will stop stingers (Jellyfish) the nematocysts only fire on contact with organic surfaces

Also boardshorts cost $130 - $180 ? I need a pay raise

thx - that answers.

Given the cost of lots of boards+sails vs the hours spent on the water, I am already hundreds of dollars per sailing session (not including fuel). Spreading the cost out over many sessions make it "cheap" if it allows me to get on the water more.

There are certainly a lot of WA locals born and bread in the WA waters, likewise there are a lot of people that moved-to WA.

ie: Geraldton is probably a good example where a decent percentage of everyone in town, does/used-to windsurf... having moved there from elsewhere.

Two common statements heard at the beach:

1/ Never leave your toys at home (or the variant: no point leaving the required-toy at home just because you cant be bothered packing it, just so that you can sit on the beach complaining about leaving your toys at home).

2/ The guy with the most toys, wins.

For those people that haven't ever done the soapy-water thing. Until you see it happen, you dont know what to look for. But once you see it bubble, it is really obvious... you will know instantly. You only need a sprinkling of quite-soapy water.

Here is one I prepared earlier for my own understanding... I had it fully-closed, waited for the board to heat up (a few mins in the direct sun) then loosened the thread.

Good weekend of sailing.

- First session at Bongaree / Bribie Island - long runs at 2+km per run.
- Next day overpowered on a 4.2 at Bribie Bar, good jumps and wave rides on a 1.5m swell; did get nailed once... losing the gear and having a hold-down.
- Then a nice cruise on big gear

I'm keen to try GB. It seems like a place that would take time to get to know where sandbanks are right? How tricky would it be to learn quick and have a good sail there without worrying about bottom?

About 1 min - either sail in deep water, or you can see the depth of the sand. That track in the pic, is deep to very-deep. You would have _not look_ at where you are going.

Unless you want to sail in the northern section, inside all the sandbars... then sometimes you need to depth-check in some places. Usually there will be other sailors out, so you can ask them.

Looks like it was ChatGipitied:
- the underlying markup looks like it was created by a machine
- the styling is circa-2010, which is what the models want to produce.
- pretty obviously off-by-one styling bugs
- obvious human-understanding bugs
- most content past-the-fold

Honourable mention for the lake... it held the Guinness record for distance-windsurfing, with quite a few of us doing over 500km in an single day of sailable conditions.

Had a good sail this week, out of the Bribie Bar.
- Waves were really good for jumping for a while, while the tide was low.
- As the tide came it, had some really good 3/4-mast high waves on the outside - not too hollow

Previously there was a slab-wall and very hollow, making wave-riding be a bit sketchy. There is now a really good wave, with sections where the slab as low enough for an easy'ish sail out beyond the line up.

Water depth over the sandbar had previously dried-out, but now some water most of the time. Between the sandbar and the outer waves, is now a bit deeper at about 2-3m (deeper than prior to the works).

... had to end the session when the sail decided to disintegrate !
