looks pretty ok to me, except the rain http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDQ17500.txt
2 hours might be bit too far for a day trip for me
sorry doodah,
i missed this one.
yep, its the bank about 1.5km off thomsons beach.
you can sail right at the edge of the bank. it was a sea plane runway back in the day and i think it must have been dredged. the edge of the bank is almost a vertical drop away. there are a couple of other landing strips to the south that work ok for speed also.
the bigger swells happen between thomsons and the bank.
at low tide it is about 150m walk to the water across sand. the tip is to park at the eastern end of the park at low tide and the western end at high tide. high tides is you can step traight into the water. most of the local guys only sail there at high tide.
i don't buy the BOM boating weather forecasts. they are the ones that are totally over cooked.
the BOM marine services is the way to go. it's been on the money over the last month or so.
the other weekend the BOM had a gale warning with 25-33 knots while the BOM marine services had 5-10 knots. we got 5-10 knots.
here is the marine services map.
not sure gesty already 20 knots on the bay![]()
Cape Moreton 39 knots ![]()
I would say that marine services use the same Models but allow more for local effects where as the bom give a general forecast for the whole bay ect.
looks like places like Wello and reddy are closer to that wind line![]()
You're all heart Sausage, I tried to call you MD74 but you kept me Hanging on the Telephone......groan.
went to Shearwater at 0930 just passing, 20knts easy staight down the middle and sailable now, tides on the way out.SSW I would guess classic winter wind direction.
Gestalt very kindly gave me a ring at work letting me know how good it is at VP nice guy isnt he
.
Anyway sounds like there around 20 knots there![]()
Vando,
Looking out my office window - One person out off Manly - looks gusty 15-20 knots. Think there might be more wind out the back - not many whitecaps in close
-J
VP rocked, had a 3 hour session in constant 18-22 knots. occasional big gust prob 25 and once dropped to 15 for 10 minutes. best session there in a long long time.
was on a 5.8 and wave board.
3 hours non stop. only 2 of us out there so plenty of room.
life is good!!!!![]()

Great at the Grand but lonely as Bam Bam has the flu flu, looked wicked at Shearwater, sailing at 11am but just got better and better much to the annoyance of the jet skis.
I agree Gesty - VP was the best its been for a while (until the boom broke).
Just picked up a new one from Simon at B/Crazy, so hope to be there again tomorrow.
Cheers!!! and Smiles ![]()
