They should have a 2year interest free deal on windsurf kit. I think more people would buy it if it didn't mean a $3K investment upfront to get geared out.

Maybe the local shops can get a deal together with GE money or Once credit so that we can get 24 months interest free and pay around $100 per month. Also a guaranteed buy back scheme depending on condition would mean that after you have paid off you $3K kit you can hand it over for a full upgrade less trade in?

I don't know. These deals are working for buying expensive items like TV's, sofas, cars and mobiles. Why cant we do the same with Windsurf kit?

That GE money interest free is a scam. They charge you fees which may as well be interest. Plus if you don't pay it off in time you get hit with fees and a huge amount of interest.

Personally I think the best way to improve prices is to increase volume. Thus retails can take a smaller percentage of profit on each item sold but still make reasonable money.

It was mentioned earlier about getting juniors involved. Fair enough but what about the seniors? Anyone over the age of 25 probably has a car and may be able to rustle up a few thousand dollars for some gear.

Whats holding them back is probably lack of access and lessons. When windsurfing was booming there were hire places and lessons all over the place. Now there are bugger all. Its clear there is not a living in hiring and teaching windsurfing so another way needs to be found.

The JP/NP trailer is a great initiative. If it becomes a permanent service then that will increase the number of windsurfers. If its only a one off it has helped out a lot anyway.

Another way to increase numbers is for anyone who loves windsurfing and wants the sport to survive perhaps should look at buying or having access to a board thats suitable for learning. By this I mean something big, wide, with a centreboard and the foam deck along with a rig suitable for beginners.

Too often you see people trying to teach on a 110L freeride board or something like that. It doesn't work and unless the learner is super keen and talented, just turns them off.

Big learner boards are daggy, heavy, cumbersome and take up heaps of room. But they make it easy to learn to windsurf. They are also quite fun to use in light wind, practising sail flips and tricks. So they have their use for everyone.

The other massive potential market the windsurfing industry could tap into are the ex windsurfers. There are tons of people now in their late 30s, 40s and 50s who used to windsurf and for whatever reason gave it up. If they could be reached the market could increase.

I dont know about GE money but I have had interest free deals before and its not a scam. I have one currently with MyBuy and there are no fees involved.

Of course if you are a dick-head and dont pay it off in the 24 payments you are going to get shafted by interest.

I recently bought a couple of 2 year-old boards, for half the original price. And they're still basically as good as new. It's hard to beat that. Even if I had tons of cash, not sure if I'd ever spring for a brand new board.

As for sails, masts etc, on the other hand, there's a real advantage in having new ones....

Perhaps there is a relationship between Aussie beer costs and refrigeration costs.... where as Pommy beer isn't chilled, hence cheaper.... and to be honest, I can't say I even like their beer..... Where as the Belgiums, Germans and Italians..... they are onto it. VB is just plain terrible..... F@rk I'm a snobb - I think I need another durry.....

Could be - although its a bit of a local Aussie myth that the beer isn't chilled in the UK. Most of it just isn't chilled to quite the same degree as it is here - consequence of the climate and massive regional varieties in draft beer options between each town and city. Some great British ales aren't chilled of course - straight from the barrel - but that's largely because it barrel ferments and needs to be used within a few days or it goes off. It also has that magical ingredient called 'taste'. New 'Brit' pub has just opened up on Little Collins where you might be pleasantly surprised at the range. I also like Belgian and German beers too - although not sure where you're coming from with Italian....don't think you're a snob - there's a great variety of local Aussie boutique beers now - many of which, ironically, are being brewed in the style of English ales. Shame they only serve light shi%$e at the cricket though. How about a Tassie Moo Brew - my local favourite

Peroni - that's italian - very nice water there they say... springs and stuff..... and a very clean refreshing beer....

Will have to sample this New Brit pub... don't mind local micro brews either.... just not a fan of vit B.....

good day for beers today......

Back to the price of beer.

Beer is cheap in the eastern states compared to WA. You are lucky to find a pint in Perth for much under $10. I think I was paying $12 a pint for (local) beers yesterday.

I think we get well ripped off on the price of beer - and you cant say that we dont consume enough of it to get good prices.

Per capita maybe, but on the work economy scale we are in 15th place between Czech Republic and Columbia. Pons are 7th and USA is number 2.

China consumes 28,640 Megalitres (1 megalitres = 1 000 000 litres) per year!!!!

I once paid about 30 bucks for a beer in strip club in west London 20 years ago !! Think about how much that was in real terms today!!!

That was not the worst part I had to buy the hostess a glass of wine for about $50, club policy! And the show was crap as well! Worst afternoon ever!

2 mistakes: wrong club and you must've gone during the boom years when, like the price of rice, your bump 'n jump would've set you back far more than $50. The market reigns supreme - whether beer, rice or, you know...but watch out for the Albanians...

A holiday to London is now a very cheap option if you earn Aussie dollars - even the cost of flights has gone through the floor.
