The bottom was copied direct from there face book page yesterday. A prediction on shark sightings to spike over the next few days or week. Could be interesting to see what happens

West Australians for Shark Conservation- WASC

Tomorrow will see the most notorious live export vessel of all the Al Messilah arrive in Fremantle port. WASC expects to see the usual noticeable spike in shark activity around our coastline as always when one or more of these vessels are
around. As mentioned in our live export specialist Melissa Smiths report this vessel is one of those fitted with a "burley churner" in order to dispose of deceased live stock on its way in. this is done to pass an AQIS (Australian Quarantine Inspection). Melissa will be posting updates etc on this as these sightings eventuate. Her report and the government cover up in regard to this link can be viewed on our website.

Yeah I got that on my FB updates also.

I haven't had a time to properly read through all their 'findings' and 'research' but as I sit here now, I am not terribly convinced that there is any strong correlation between shark activity and animal exports via Fremantle.

Guess I should set aside some time to read what they have.

Coincidently, I just received an email from someone who was working very closely with WASC. He's pulled out of the organization and is very much questioning their credibility regarding the live export fiasco, saying "I've taken a step back from wasc because of it. I've been kept out of the loop for sometime now about what their plans are because i kept questioning everything... The group had no credibility to begin with and are focusing on irrelevant things"

It's a pity that people are using the shark debate to push their own agendas such as banning live exports.

Just to clarify i have never said i agree with there report. But i will say its at least interesting to read as a different point of view

I'm still undecided.

I wouldn't say its got me nowhere.

This is the worded questions sitting on the floor waiting to be asked of our state government. I was hoping they would have been proposed this year but as parliament didn't sit for very long long they will not be tabled until early Feb i think. However they have still been tabled and its now just a time issue. Slow movement but still i think its movement

I refer to the Minister's Media Statement on 27/09/2012 announcing that $2million will be spent to continue shark tagging programs, as part of a raft of new 'shark mitigation' strategies. I ask:

(1) How many sharks have been tagged by the Department under existing programs prior to 27th September this year?

(2) How many Great White sharks have been tagged by the Department under existing programs prior to 27th September this year?

(3) Has the government conducted any reviews into the effectiveness of existing shark tagging programs?

(4) If yes to (3), can this review be made available?

(5) If no to (3), on what evidence has the government based its decision to increase funding for shark tagging programs?

And you still don't have an answer. Good on you for having a go, don't get me wrong, but shark tagging is a waste of time effort and cash, and the pollies are not goin to tell you anything you probably don't already know from your own research......... the waves are calling.... have a surf

Like to teach my kids that "sharing is caring" The government seem to be under the impression $900 000 between 4 projects is doing just that!!!!
One of those projects is going to test bubble curtains, strobe lighting and sub aquatic sounds That was done years ago at a place called "Club Atlantis" at Ob City How about giving someone without a hundred letters after their name a chance

Agreed, I dont think strobe lights and bubbles will stop a GWS imo but what do I know?

Feels like they are going to great lengths to do nothing

I completely agree its a waist of time. But they are still spending all that money and ignoring better project like Katana's idea.

Yeah i don't have my answer but it is in the log to be presented next year in State Parliament. I have had no one answer me anywhere and i have constantly not been replied to on hundreds of emails. So lets see them avoid the question when its put to them in parliament

I get a far bit of spare time and i'm happy to proceed and push what i think is right or research it to try and get the answers.

Go for a surf, love to if this wind would piss off. I even considered this morning, spent hours last night trying to convince myself that 20knots westerly with a 1.8 mtr swell was not bad Thank god i slept in..
