The marathon would be good in the arvo when it gets windier more from the east.

Agree. The only minor hiccup is that those afternoon winds have terrible habit of being ENE for Geelong, but ESE on the coast. I have a funny feeling that the preference is to run the marathon as a "no winder", for general safety. "We will wait and see".
I'll chat to Woody about the concept of a SUP Vic Winter Classic Down Wind Sprint accross Corio Bay. 5-6km, no shipping lanes, hosted over 2 weekends, 4 day waiting period. We could pretty much confirm course and start time by lunch on a Friday. Imagine a 30 knot squealer Down Wind Event !
