This local thing has been going on ever since surfing began.

The difference is the sport has gained popularity in mega proportions in recent years.

If you are a traveling surfer and manage to crack it for perfect conditions at break that you don't regulary surf , of course the regulars will expect you to play second fiddle to some extent . As they have surfed this spot rain hail and slop on a regular basis .

Also the problem becomes worse at a place that is isolated from other good breaks .

For instance at cactus , caves was bad for tyre deflations years ago ( maybe still is ? ) . But all the other breaks there were visitor friendly .

Also big difference between point breaks and beachies , the locals tend to spread out on the beaches . So no probs .

Having said that , would most people prefer to surf the second best bank with less numbers ?
Or go to the primo bank and take your chances ?

If the place is a huge isolated Holliday destination , then the locals need to get over it to a
certain degree, as it is the visitors that bring money to the area, allowing the local to live there in the first place .

The other thing that has changed over the years is the weather predictions and surf cams etc , people don't need to learn how to read the weather , they just check the surf prediction web site , bingo turn up at the spot enmasse .

Each spot should be treated as needed on any particular day by locals and visitors alike !

The police should not be required !!!

The localisers of this world will only cause more dramas , as the kids say , take a chill pill .

And go for a surf !!!!!

blah blah blah, some good points made but fk if you lived and surfed in the same place for years are YOU going to rollover and let the blowins take control,no farking way.
I travel a fair bit for work with board in tow,Hawaii ,I was surfing with my son and he paddles over to another reef with 15 on it rare but good.I paddled over and they smoked the sh-t out of him,I sat there and waited my turn showing respect for da locals, they did the same to me,smoked me.
I said to the biggest dude hey whats up with you guy's?He said ****off your not local and if you and your boy don't go NOW your dead
I said to my son ****em lets go.He wanted to stay.We dropped in on them all for the next two sets and ****ed off real quick

I have no problem spotting the arrogant loudmouths, but they could be some out of towners trying to trick me?

If you are not a local, how do you tell if someone is a local? To assume everyone is a local is giving the locals an advantage by default.

Honestly if you can't tell who's a local by the first glance , you really shouldn't be out there.

In the words of one wise person on this site, "Take a chill pill."

These pills are allergy free I believe and local friendly, so all you locals can take a pill, calm down and we can all share "equally".

Wouldn't that fix the aggro problem?

I love this song.
