was hoping to trial both flow and creek 8'10 today to check comparison
but only 8'10 creek was available it seemed surprisingly stable for me coming coming down in litres from Nalu @ 160ltr and JP fusion @ 170 only demoed in flat water due to wind today but surprised at 125ltr that i stayed on the board seemed to paddle great im 85kg and 6ft so im thinking the 8'10 probably the go

Id say go the 8'10 at that weight. Im 96 - 98kg id say the 9'1 could be a bit floaty? Sounds like you demod the surf fx 8'10?

I will see how it goes in the surf and give you my thoughts. I'm hoping for an afterwork session tomorrow otherwise this weeknd will be the go.

Went out afterwork this arvo in some unfavorable conditions. Full Tide working with the wind it was sloppy and hard work

Jumped on and paddled out. The nose really cuts through the chop springs up over the whitewash so easily. Sometimes a little too easy as It would zig zag on the way over which made me come off a few times. Bit of learning on how it likes to come out and that will be an easy fix... plus it was pretty sloppy.

Finally got out the back and caught a few waves. I buried the nose pretty much instantly but recovered just as quick feels different to my other board will need to adjust my weight a bit more to find the sweet spot.

The board felt so light on the wave I couldn't believe the difference. I felt like the board could turn on a dime and turned so easily. I was pretty centered on the board will take me a few sessions to get my feeting sorted. I came off a few waves trying to move around as the new pad is super slippery.

But overall I'm super happy with its stabtily in the slop, the wave catching ability and the speed and ease of control on the wave. I am still so blown away how light the board actually felt under my feet.


Cant wait for the surf to clean up a bit.

4th session on my 8'10" Creek, and by far the best.
I have started to put my feet .5" to 1" further forward than I would on the Flow, and would put them almost equal on stability now.
At 6'2" and 100kg it's challenging at times, but definitely do-able.
I took it out yesterday morning but it was closing out high and hard, and I let a fair few go through to the keeper.
Today was much better, the wind was shaping it all a lot better, and I had an hour of nice peaky, sucky waves on the outgoing.
Throwing caution to the wind I chucked it down every face I could, and had an absolute ball. Someone said the creek doesn't have enough nose rocker as standard, but I reckon it's perfect. It does look quite flat from on top, but this may be due to the slightly wider nose that pulls in quite sharply.
I've posted a picture here to hopefully show the rocker of my 8'10" Creek (on top), compared to my 8'10" Flow.
I'm loving this board.
The only thing that could make it any better would be If I could go as small as Casso.

Glad to hear you found it comfortable in chop.... I just made a video to show my experience in chop, on the 9'1. I'll post below as I answer another question.

My first reaction, as I stepped up on my original 9'4 was: "holy moly... this thing feels super light under foot"... stoked you felt the same!

Hi Scotchman

I decided to make a video to help you chose.... me on the 9'1 in voodoo chop.
It was my 2nd session on it.... totally blown out and terrible..... so I put on the "Kook Hat Cam" and recorded it.
The 8'10 would have been tough for me that day. but the 9'1 was just about right.

Ok... I got carried away and threw in a bunch of clips to help show the 9'1 with 99 kg on it.
Posted to help understand how the Creek at 1.37 "weight to volume" factor.... ( 99 kg times 1.37 = 136 liters)
The only "ripping" on this video was my boardies........ please take it for what it is

thanks Rick great video mate glad we arent the only ones with sheite weather ! bloody hard to make your mind up with so many option and no good weather to demo boards im only 85kg seemed to be ok on the 8'10 on flat water so probably leaning towards the 8'10 .

I just wanted to show that it is low in the water, even at a pretty reasonable float factor of 1.37
I will get an 8'10 next, even at my weight, but it will reserved for the great days.

Got the creek into some nice clean right handers at the point of noosa today.


Took me a little bit to adjust to the board but once I got my feeting sorted it was all sweet.

Not sure if its because im concentrating more on nailing my top and bottoms turns or this board just made it a hell of a lot easier? They arent super quick or snappy but it did them with ease. I find I can really dig a rail in and get a sharp turn hanging onto it is a problem though . Would smaller fins give me more life in the top and bottom turns?

Very happy with the board it catches waves easily and turns very well. Seems to catch alot of attention as well... a few people paddled up and asked what board I was on.

The only downfalls I have noticed is the gloss finish is crazy slippery, which I'm planning on hexatraction on the front when it arrives and I
did notice a few chips on the rail near the tail.....Bugger will wash it down shortly and inspect. But thinking I'll find some more railtape and just cover the sides fully?

Yeah Nuggy.... wax or hexatraction for sure..... don't step off the pad without it!
and, throw on some rail tape, the paint will scrub off eventually.
I didn't put it on my 9'4, so I have gone through the paint along the rails. (I did put it on the 9'1)
Good news is.... it shows me that I am paddling correctly and stopping at my heels

I have 4.25" side fins in my 9'1 and I have been laying down some pretty hard turns with good results.

Sunova 105's are 5" / 94's = 4.75" / 83's = 4.5" & 74's = 4.25"

The channels in the Speeed/Creek tail allow you so use slightly smaller fins.

It also depends on the conditions / the way you surf / the feel you're after etc. so best practice is to experiment with different fins (shape / size / rake / flex / configuration in terms of a larger or smaller centre) until you find something that works for you.

I am happy with my 4.25" sides but will get a smaller center to match them.... or maybe go real small in the center, just to have some fun.

I have very good rail control in general, and others may not find enough bite or drive from the small sides.
An alternative that want to try is the 105's in the sidebites and a 3" trailer..... just to get a ton of drive and keep the tail lose for tail slides.

Just try different combos and discover what set-up you like for different conditions.

A smaller centre will loosen the board up but there's an infliction point where if you go too small, you'll loose some drive & control....in bigger surf. I've experimented heaps with fins (only real way is swapping fins mid-session which is a pain) on various size Speeed / Acid & Insane models & my crude analysis is:

- I generally run most of my Sunova's with a slightly smaller centre
- I prefer smaller fins on a board like the Speeed (mainly because the channels seem to offer some extra bite) vs the Acid
- I prefer bigger fins on my 8'1 Acid (they give me more speed out of turns) vs a board like my 8'11 Insane where I use smaller fins because there's a lot more rail in the water
- at the risk of stating the obvious, some fin templates work better on certain models e.g. C-Drives work a treat on boards like my Acid & Insane (they offer heaps of drive because of the large base area) vs my Speeed where I prefer fins with a bit more flex

I've only surfed an 8'4 Creek which was a bit too big for me so I'm not really in a position to comment which fins work best. Depending on what stock fins you currently have, best option is to try 105 sides with a 94 centre or 94 sides with an 83 centre & go from there....good luck

PS - Nugdam, sorry to see the troubles with your fin box...just take your board to a reputable repair place & hopefully they'll be able to sort you out

PPS - I've even tried twins on my Speeed which I personally didn't like
