You can look at the 7'4 and 7'8 as your weight is good for both so boils down to your skills and conditions. The 7'4 is the board to aim for if you are surfing in reasonably clean waves without too much wind and chop. If it often gets choppy where you surf then the 7'8 with the extra bit of width and 10L in volume will be handy. I ride the 7'4 and I am nearly twice your age, 5'7" and around 82kg and love the 7'4 as it's stable and fast. It does become a mission in the windy choppy crappy conditions.

Don I'm 6ft and 95kgs..before the Minion I was on the Fanatic 8'10 prowave..which now is just for decoration. .it does take a while to the feel of the Minion and I could have maybe gone to the 7'4 but conditions aren't always super clean and I wanted to be comfortable out the back and spend my time riding waves not falling off in chop...like stevo said take into account your skill level then pull the trigger..as I've said before..couldn't be happier with board and service I received. Looks even better now I replaced white deck pad with a Deep one from Simon.

Took delivery of my minion tonight. Quick pic and it was into the deck grip...3 hours later I am finally finished and ready to take her out tomorrow.

So stoked with the whole experience. Quality all the way through. Great packaging for airfreight, amazing glassing/sanding, absolutely awesome shape with the double concave taken out deeper for a bit more grunt in turns, fins....apparently only the best will do as standard with Jackson Close signature Future quads and Dark Drive nubster.
Was lucky enough to be able to get one of the first DEEP tail pads and went nuts cutting up a DEEP deck grip to round of the customisation.
Wanted to slim it down somewhat so went slightly narrower than I am used to at 28.5" wide but at 100kg want the extra couple of inches for rough days whilst keeping the volume down a touch at 117Lt

Am I happy....the wife is on the couch tonight ....

Had my first surf on it this morning in 1 - 1.5ft clean Middleton on a dropping tide.
There was 3 of us on Minions this morning and we all had a ball despite the small waves.

Over the moon with the way it performs, just a little disappointed in the surf as it's usually bigger and still yet to ride a minion in more than 1.5ft
When I did manage one of the bigger set waves she really came alive. Took a few waves to remind myself how to really milk these boards in the turns but man are they something else.

I find myself delaying the bottom turn for a split second longer and really laying it over more then I can any other board and boy does it grip through the turn. It drives out of the bottom turn harder with more speed than you would imagine and projects nicely into the lip where the fun really begins. I find the tail so easy to push around and didn't even feel my foot on the kicker today. From snappy reo's to wide drivey cutbacks, with a bit more pressure and kick on the back heal they seem to get loose when you want but with a surprising level of control.

Having spent the last couple of weeks on the JC the minion feels totally different and certainly suits my style of surfing more. The JC with quads was too unfamiliar compared to a thruster setup but the minion as a quad with the darc drive just feels soooo natural especially to someone who has only surfed with 3 fins for over 3 years.

So Happy? Hell yes but desperate to get it out in 3-4ft where I struggle to really throw my current board around naturally. Hoping the minion will be the one board fits all I have been looking for. The good thing is I don't have to wait to long to get the waves I want as I'm off to Bali in 6 weeks for 10 days on the minion.

My question to the DEEP's team about Minion tail lift : is it the same lift tail on batwing tail and fish versus

Does Simon give you the option of FCS fins with the Minion boards, or is it 100% Futures boxes?

I was out with Danny for his first surf, it was great to see him finally riding his own minion. He's a good surfer and even though the surf was lacking I could see the speed being produced through the turns. Good stuff Danny

Another friend was out on his big name brand sup, he asked to have a surf on my 7'8" minion. I immediately saw an improvement in his surfing. His turns produced speed and the transitions flowed so much better than I've seen from him on his board. I was taught if you can't say something good then say nothing, so I'll say nothing about his 106 litre carbon big name brand Board. You quickly forget how different the minion is until you get on something different.

Wicksy, I've had Deeps with fcs fins, but mine are all futures now......I'd suggest ringing Simon direct.

Funnily enough I agree with both Danny and StevO. Delayed bottom turn gives great speed and projection into a top turn. The extra speed and short length means you can whip into an extra turn or a quick floater easy peasy.

The SUP Centre in Newmarket have demos and the full range. Talk with Russell. I'm 188cm and 100kg, came off a 9'6" Prowave and have the 7'10". Just an awesome board and I back up everything that has been said about the Minions. Mine is borderline for me in choppy conditions however even though I have a few swims I love it. The drop in length is a bit of a head trip at first and I've found it difficult to go from one board to the other as they are so different. The Minion is so much faster and maneuverable.
