No worries Dale "spongey" , thanks for the phone message mate. No phone reception over on the island, sorry I missed your call. We had a few hours sailing but it was very hot and the wind was lacking in the Lee of the islands. You didn't miss a thing really. Hope you had a good time up here!!

Headed up the Harbour, out the Heads where I passed a seal lazing in the water off South Head, locked the wheel and enjoyed a flat ocean and steady breeze. Passed closer to the seal on the way in, then passed P&O cruise ship sailed by before I battled with my furler trying to get the big genoa down. It won the first three rounds but I eventually dropped it in the fourth. Will have to get one of those Harken ratchet fairleads and some non-stretch furling line and see if that helps. Sailed up to the mooring. Went for a quick dip and lay on the deck cooling off. Saw 6.6 kt top speed (gps on ebb tide in the Harbour) which surprised me a bit.

Bloody brilliant day, just me and Pelican Bob.

Hi DrRog, I have got same thing with genoa, problem is stiffnes of the tack, two turns to force it around foil and is easy. Try to increase dia of the drum (temporaly thing) and see the diference. With small jib with less reinforcment I do not have this problem.

FYI I replaced my crappy old thick furling line with new 8mm 32-double braid line and it seems to work like a charm. I think the problem was the frayed old line was building up on itself on the top half of the drum, then collapsing on itself and forming overruns and the worn rope was locking itself down. Best $30 I ever spent; gave me pleasure looking at it neatly wrapped around the drum.

I also put a couple of wire rope clips on the s/s guides that are supposed to stop the line falling off the drum (but in fact left about a 6mm gap between them and the drum) just in case I fail to keep tension on the furling line whilst it raps around under the drum.

Took the oportunity to spend a few nights on the boat and do an overnighter to St Leonards in Port Phillip Bay as the weather was right. The kiosk is open during the day so that was handy and the pub was just a walk over the road from the jetty...... and for a pub meal it was very good!

.......and on the return journey we where accompanied by another yacht so we where able to get pics of warana under sail.

Ha ha lol ....yeah....it's old school isn't it. A pretty daggy little boat all round actually. Wish I had more time HG.

I could in a couple of weeks put some beer in the fridge Brizzy just bring your own sand paper

Well not today but last Friday I did my first solo sail on my new Pod!
All systems went well but I'm still having a little trouble raising the Main due to worn mast track slugs.
Max wind gust was 18 knots and Max boat speed 7.5 knots.
She does not like going backwards when applying to much revs and has some prop cavitation when applying to much revs in a burst forward.
I have completed 6 sea trials now and will be departing over the horizon for my first maiden voyage around the first week of March.

No my mate did! He's still on day three fitting it! They have changed all the components apart from the wheel base and geared motor.

As of July what ever the boats state is ,Ill be working on the masts and am aiming for September sail at the latest

Today we did this race in a 33 footer

Around 35 nm in total, the weather was not kind with constant rain from start to finish, 16 degrees maximum,around 20 to 25 knots from the sw for most of the day and the channel was a bit lumpy so all in all it was a cold and uncomfortable race

We put a couple of reefs in and did a headsail change to a smaller one when we were in the lee of Huon Island until we rounded Zuidpool Rock, put the big headsail back on when we were back in the river and could only carry a spinnaker from around Police Point to the finish line but still managed to do it in 5 and 1/2 hours and crossed the line behind a Radford 12.2 and another fast 40 foooter

We ended up winning on handicap by about 3 mins so it was a good way to finish a ordinary day

Hi Loosechange

We were quite surprised when we found out we had won it because for most of the race there was bugger all visability and we didn't know how far behind the quicker boats we were

Agreed, the headsail is particularly nice the way the camber sets and the leech is set very nicely, the main looks a bit flat.

Hi Andy

The main is a new this season Doyle Stratis Ice and we have 2 Headsails (not sure of the type but they will be Doyle as well)

The light one is good for up to 14 knots and the heavy one (same area) is good for 6 knots upwards

If it blows hard enough that the heavy is to large we swap to the original smaller furling headsail

The headsails are grey on one side and white on the other and people sometimes think we make mutiple headsail changes each race When the see us heading in one direction with a white headsail and return with a black one

We also have 2 (small and large) spinnakers depending on how hard it is blowing

Great sail from Cleveland to Moolooaba on Thurs &Friday overnight at Tangalooma, 53nm all on the same tack at 60- 90 degree in 15 - 20 kts
Even a little rain to keep the temapture down, about good at it gets I'm thinking.

Looking like a northwest wind to come on Tuesday which will be OK

I did my first ever single handed sail (in anything other than a dinghy) yesterday. I just tooled around outside the heads at Port Hacking and got in before the storm came over. It was a trip, I'm hooked.
