And just why won't the kiteboard end up under the house with the windsurfer? Essentially they are both the same thing.

Kite boarding is cool now because the marketing boys have decided that windsurfing is not cool. Just wait till the next fad comes along and the marketing boys will have you all parting with your dollars while they gleefully rub their hands, dreaming up the next scheme.

Both take up little room. You can move that hang glider further in and easily find room for the windsurfer and kiteboard. Most windsurfers are in recycle shops by now, I keep buying the masts but I have a lot of competition.

What I want to know is where are all the old sailing dinghies gone? Its quite noticeable this season how few are on the market compared to yachts. Plastic cats are being sold ridiculously cheap, I guess they take up a bit of real estate. Fireball in Adelaide on a trailer for $200 but there has to be a lot rotting away some where.

Some of the smallest sailboats like the flying ant that was mentioned say when you look up the specs designed for ages less than 18. Is this because the boom is to low or the carrying capacity not enough? Are they still suitable for one adult?

One slightly built adult can sail one but its really an early teens boat where they learn all about spinnaker handling. Miles of room under the boom.

You say that to a windsurfer and he might bite your head off,

Well its not a marketing thing at all, windsurfing is still very popular with a dedicated crowd, its just no longer fasionable to the degree of every coastal house hold having a kit.

Huh? I am off my couch, I've taken two months off from work and am now busily building new kitchen and painting inside the house.

I agree the Sabre is with out doubt the best boat for what you want, light 41Kg, designed for ocean, very easy to sail, yet fun. I am 110Kg and sail one very at the front of the fleet, so the 80kg is not correct at all.

The only problem is getting hold of one, they are booming around Australia, with over 100 boats being build in the past six months.

Good luck

well if you windsurf or kite that would never get done.internal decorating is the biggest fad of them all.

Thanks for the suggestion. Inflatable seems somehow not as good, my impression is that they would be slower, not last as long etc, I suppose they don't burst if it gets really hot lol. Also it's $6000.

I can organize roof top transport since it seems a wheelable boat is a very difficult thing to organize.

I'd still rather as light and small as possible though. There have been some really good suggestions in this thread I'll keep looking to see if I ever see any of them for sale.

I assume the holdfast trainer couldn't be sailed by one adult for casual off-beach non racing sailing?

First one costs too much.

I looked at the rebel cat before, looks good made from pvc pipe I think, it said not suitable for the sea, but does that include just cruising along 200m off the beach?
