I say but a st2000 no way you can hold that tiller that would be a killer. I would have a good inflatable, personal eperb, get rigging checked and I would install an AIS the poor mans radar $250 to see other boats or Whitworths had a full unit for 700 cheep insurance. and add navionics to your phone android or the other one [}:)]

Give it a go but do check out the boat if all checks out why not do the trip id prefer another person but you need to make it safe before asking that one and people will be more inclined to help if the boats safe.

I have just taken the estimated weight from the hartley site on other cement boats of similar size and design, maybe its not that heavy,
The only way I'd really know is if its lifted I guess

Mate, if you are out there - I am looking to get some more experience while helping you get your vessel to Melbourne. Am a Sydney area resident, have crewed Hobart - Sydney a few times + some Blue Water classics Gosford-LHI, Sydney-Gold Coast (so cold in 2008... ) + FWIW; kayaked across Bass Strait twice.

This is sounding a lot better now that you have a second person helping.

The long stretch is from Eden to Refuge Cove, be prepared to wait in Eden. If a SW comes in ate Eden, move over to the Woodchip terminal and anchor.

Use the time at Eden to fix things up and get ready for the long haul. Eden has plenty of supporting businesses within walking distance and fuel can be had from a tanker at the wharf.

Kiama is too tight to get into, Woolongong the same. Having done this trip a couple of times, more to Tasmania. I personally would try for Sydney to Jervis Bay, then onto Ulladulla (maybe). Then an overnight run to Eden arriving in the morning.

If the wind is aft of the beam and there is a bit of a rolly swell, just use a large genoa. (poled out, if you have a pole)

Report to the onshore Coastal Patrols as you go down the coast.

If you have a paper chart, it pays to mark on the chart your position every hour for two reasons.
1. If the electronics go down you will know where you were within the hour.
2. You will get a very good idea visually on the chart how your yacht performs.

Keep asking questions, this is a very informative and positive forum.

I would recommend Greenwell Point instead of Jervis Bay. Courtesy moorings, some facilities including bus and train. Easy bar crossing. 10 to 15 hours from Port Hacking. JB is a national park and has no facilities. They do have short term moorings but only for a few hours. Huskisson can only be entered on big tides and then your not allowed at the wharf.
Ulladulla is an excellent stop over as well and nothing wrong with Batemans Bay.

Monitor channel 72 for Wollongong/Kiama and Ulladulla fishermen and charter operators. Channel 14 for Greenwell Point fishermen and charters. Channel 69 for the navy. Set these frequencies on scan and listen out for the gossip, fishermen will be commenting on weather and water temperature and currents and other vital info. If they are not out you shouldn't be either.

did a manual google search around the coast from eden to port phillip bay, couldnt find it.
I'll be bringing a couple of fishing 'poles', they'l have to do, ROFL

There is an old bloke who sails up and down the coast solo in a Hartley 32 ROHC. They sail well. Most people don't even realise they are concrete. Yours just looks like a later version with just higher topsides giving it the extra length.
Four concrete yachts and one old concrete trawler here. Only one looks like its concrete. People are surprised when I mention they are concrete.

We have a few Bass St. expert here. My guess only - listening experten.
But considering Eden to Refuge and giant oil fields of 90 mile beach in between,
that stretch of water deserves a bit of respect. Just listening a few boaties next to me,
Feb-Apr. we leaving Westerport. But there is another option, use small windows, stick closer to coast and hide if need it- Gabo, Lake Entrance and Mallacoota.

I have Rob's 2006 version and it only goes to Eden in the South. Its mainly for NSW and Qld.
Buy an older version of Lucas's guide for the NSW coast off eBay and update it from the update site.
Be advised the Coastal patrols/Marine rescue associations are all amalgamated now so some info may have to be checked.

DAMN damn ....damn, I would like to thank everyone on seabreeze for the great feedback I have received from you all, (even the negative pessimists, you know who you are)............only joking, It's all good
Anyway,
to cut along story short, very short indeed,
I had a fellow member Wollemi offer to come with me, and help sail her.
As he lives up near sydney he went and inspected the boat I have been planning
to sail back yesterday,

(never..... I repeat NEVER ever ever buy a boat on EBAY sight unseen, )
I grilled the boat broker for about an hour or more over the phone on her condition,
He stated that she was fit for sail with minor, that was only MINOR work to prepare her,
My friend Wollemi has done a pretty thorough inspection,
and she has fallen way short of expectations

BAD POINTS
1. cockpit needs sanding and reworking,
2. steering wheel is undersized (steering gear cover missing)
3. no tiller, control hole boarded up
4. main sail missing battens...(no storm sails)
5. nasty crack in lower transom and hull
6. no anchor winch
7. rust on sheaves, cables and fittings
8. much rust on engine mariniser
9. bilge full of rusty water,
10. no cushions, no power outlets
11. water pump not working
12. engines harmonic balancer needs replacement.
13. she still floats (was a good point once)
14. I could go on all day,

GOOD POINTS

1. .ummm.......still thinking..... um,....she floats.?...(could be a bad point,)
cost $100 a week to float,
mooring on the sea floor is free.

Very dissulusioned, sigh (easy come...easier go)

A Road trip is beyond my budget
Will update soon with decision on what to do with her.

it's a lot of boat for $1,100, and the pic from your first post look ok so I can see why you were interested.

for my 2c, the rigging doesn't excite me, especially the home-made turnbuckles, the rest on your list I'm not too fazed about.

I't's hard to tell from the photo's, if youlooked casually at the deck,toe rail, staunchions etc. it's not too bad

deal breaker though for me is the stern.

Ferro boats can take a bit of abuse, but I'm sure there's a limit.
Where you able to have a look under the cockpit to see how bad the impact may have been?

If you wanted something to compare to, there's a local club with a Sonata fixed keel boat (fibreglass) that will shortly go on the market to be sold to highest bidder (probably circa $2,500)
