Just gone out to get a pic of it..... GONE.... but dont worry you will see it again either at the beach ( if people are looking at this forum !!!) or a new computer or bluray disc player via the metal recycle depot and then to China and back again...

Good stuff ! you never no when you`re going to find a bargan
(If hillsy doesn`t want it I`ll send you my adress ).

While you were shopping I was testing my new speedsail
It was a blokart-club meet day, we packed the trailer
and headed to Bucasia beach.
Unfortunatly there was no wind: ergo no blokarts.
With so little wind it seemed like a good day to test out our speed sail.

I`ve rig up a 3.5m2 sail on a three peice aliuminium mast in a less than 5knt. breeze.

See Google videos: Jesses landboard

How did the 3 wheel set up go for wheel wbble? Did you get fast enough to find out . "im asking cos youve pipped me at the post . My 3 wheel test version is only cut pieces of steel at the present.
I think that you may have just earned a Masters to go with your Degree in Landyacht design from the Lake Lefroy International University of Wind Are there any other Faculty members who agree ? How about you Dean Finch ,over there in the Aerodynamics Department.

I'm not sure in the context of this thread anyone is complaining about the price of a blokart. If Aga wants to build a super cheap dumpster, then Lachlan is saying there's no point me comparing the price of my PM to the price of a blokart. I think he's saying for my point to be valid in this context I should be comparing the price of my PM to that of Aga's dumpster. A point, in hindsight, I agree with.

Thats the what I was getting at. Compared to promos and blokarts, a homemade yacht can be done a fair bit cheaper. As for producing landyachts for sale Im staying outta that one, I think building and sailing something you've created are the best parts of this sport I've experienced.

EDIT: sorry for the late reply, been outta town for the weekend

A number of us feel the same way Lachlan-I'm sure you to would prefer to sail your own creation that you have put some part of yourself into. (maybe a bit of blood from that damn grinder)

Thanks Joe
I pick you as a man to whom the journey is as important as the destination.
ie. The planning and building is half the fun. (although buying and getting straight in can be fun to)

[ Satisfaction in life is not always found at the destination but in the journey. I love building and trying something new. Even Eddision made a long journey against amazing odds. He built over 2000 light bulbs before one finally worked. If this project works, I will simply move on to another project. If it fails, I will humbly ask for someone to pass me the welder, and again, move on undaunted. All things notwithstanding, it is very satisfying to do and a source of great pleasure. To go flying up and down the beach is simply the cream on the cake.

Not at all, I don`t have hilly`s "Alex Downer" type diplomacy.
I don`t mean to come off sounding like I`m haveing a go at anyone secially landyacht (Paul).

That`s fine, I feel that way too, but during the first couple of weeks of sailing the 3 "DUMPSTERS" we had a lot of people cume up to us on the beach and make offers. Admittedly this was during the school holidays, but there is definatly an opening for a stater-cheapie, and not everyone has the handyman skills-tools-shed space-etc. to build their own. That doesn`t mean they`re crap people and don`t deserve a chance to try the sport before setting up a second morgage.

Hi landyacht I didn`t get fast enough to find out
but I`ve got some good spings on there
(as seen in my new google video: Jesses landboard).
I haven`t been able to try it down a big hill.
The first set of spings were far to light and wbbly, but it hasn`t been wobbly at all with the two sets......yet.
I`ve used two pairs of tension spings but was thinking of a cobining compression over tension spings.
I hope yours turns out as good. Mine turned out a bit heavy
beacuse I used the back wheel off a mini hardly davidson.
It is a steal 13X6.5 wheel. Heavy as sshhh....

Ah, now i see what was getting at. Yes, I agree. There is definately a market (maybe not commercially viable) for cheaper landyachts or kits for those who dont do construction for what ever reason. ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) landyachts

Just a little correction - Once I try mine out and tune it I would sell it in a heart beat to finance #2 & 3. It's one way of refining and improving the design or trying a different construction. I've already thought about improvements on the design I'm currently doing.
Some of my most memorable moments and good times have been in sheds or sailing -
Building my first Paper Tiger with my Father
Rebuilding and modifying an RE22 motor with my son for his car
The first time with my son skippering that he got in the zone on a reach with the spinnaker up (walking the tightrope). He was unaware that we pasted the lead boat.
The first race I did with my daughter on the Hobie 16.
This doesn't mean I kept the Paper Tiger, 125, Hobie 16 or expect my son to keep the RE22, they served their purpose they were sold. (At times with some regret)

Same same...
Some items we have built are moveing through there 4th owner
Wer`e only on a quarter acer, if we kept everything we wouldn`t have room to move
Some things are hard to part with.

What`s the harm in trying to bridge the gap between Kaos and Madness
ie: The Madness is the extreme cost of a commercal landyacht.
The Kaos of the rag tag back yard fleet....

eg:Everybody please post pics of homebuilt yachts...........

Just my 2 cents worth. Yes I remember when i could use one of them and get a bag of mixed lollies!!!!!!

First of all I sail a blokart, from 2006. Sailed all my life on the water from Flying Ants when I was young to a trailer sailer in later years. We have to be careful comparing the ability of yachts to 1 be able to sail and 2 their speed. The blokarts are one design, so it comes down to maintenance, setup, skill then WEIGHT of the pilot(skipper). I have seen days when I (too damn heavy for my own good) sat on the grass and watched my 25kg daughter tear around on the bitumen in 5kts with a 4m sail!!

A class 5 should demolish a blokart in a race given all other things are equal.

So why did I get a blokart? I saw them at the local show, went to one of their club days and their were about 15 sailing and a good number of "hangers on". It was therefore I knew it was good socially, and being one design, like I have sailed all my life, I knew I would find someone with similar build to race against and improve. As I am aware the Melbourne Club is the only active landyachting club in Victoria.

So please don't compare firstly apples with oranges and secondly a pink lady with a red delicious!

If I lived in Kambalda, things may have gone a completely different direction!!!!

All said in respect, and would love to try out some of these bigger versions!

All very valid points Russell, I expect I would have done exactly the same!

I agree we shouldn't compare apples with oranges as far as performance goes, but I think we should give all the details about the different landyachts so that new comers can choose between them. For some apples are ideal for others oranges, it depends on lots of different factors.

Now to present all of the different landyachts available, could we trouble you to put a picture of your blowy in the landyacht register?

I will, but at present the only pics I have are of the old version or of it on its side. If it was up and running I was too busy sailing it to stop and take a pic. One day I'll get some time to go sailing again.
