My oldest boy Jesse wanted a blocart but I couldn't justify the price.
As both boys had out grown their trampoline, along with some old windsurfer bits and wheel barrow wheels we built 3 of these for less than $200 each. They only take a couple of days to build. Cheap, quick and easy, great for 2 wheeling and 180deg. slideouts. There are 3 short movies on Google Video : Jesses landyacht. Enjoy.

Glad to see more kids getting involved - our club has quite a few junior sailors - well half of them are ours! Acutally a couple of our juniors are not bad little pilots.

Always good to encourage them to use their helmets - most kids have at least a bike helmet.

Keep in touch and let us know about your adventures
cheers Promo Girl

Hi landyacht WA
The beach in the photos and the firt movie:Jesses landyacht are at the Mackay QLD harbour. The beach in the 3rd movie Jesses landyacht-dogfights is Bucasia in Mackay's norther suberbs, This is were the small blokart club meet. Mackay has large tides-upto 7m. and deserted beaches.

A GREAT looking yacht.

Just some thing to keep in mind is that Class 5 yachts have quite a strict design rules.(and need to be for tight class racing)
Using sailboard sails (may be to large) and masts (made from fibreglass) may not fit class 5 rules.

www.seabreeze.com.au/Articles/Land%20Sailing/Land-Sailing-Class-5-Specs-Comparisons_1422969.aspx

Class 6 is possibly better suited for a developmental class .. the "Lake Lefroy Mini" is a great example of class 6

I used to turn up at the billy cart comps with all the kids in their litle landyachts. after we'd won lots of prizes he kids would sail around the street that had been blocked off. We paid for one of the yachts that way.

All im saying guys is that you are "so close now" to a class5 with just a couple of changes with your next generation of yachts you will be spot on.
And if you are doing this at the ages you are...give a few years and I would think you would be up there with the worlds best sailors.
My concern is that if your tweeking the yachts to make them go faster, smoother etc, you would be better using that same energy to perfect a class 5 that meets the class 5 specs.
Doing this would give you an edge over other sailors worldwide ..... and by starting at your ages with the skills you all obviously have it will be so natural and intuitive for you.
And by playing tiggy on the beach now WILL make you great sailors for the future!!!!!

Well done and go for it guys !!!!!!

Hi Hills,
The video upload needed attention. All fixed now

Hi Gizmo,
It's cool, I know what you're saying. We've just goten into it & class 5 dosen't seem to have a following in mackay, it's us Vs blokarts.

Calm down GIZZYKINS
Suggestions for training games is an old favourite, "spitfires and Messershmits."
Basically fast circling of another yacht till someone stops . A great way to learn to keep a yacht moving.
If the kids can learn to tack effciently and then learn to accelerate downwind. they will become top sailors. The type of rig you are using is ideal for both things.

Having said all that, learn from MY mistakes and wear helmet AND Seatbelt. and wear it tigh
Idea for a competition. Variations on the name GIZMObut only if he doesnt mind and wont take offense.

Hi Gizmo,
We looked at many drawings and designs before building the first landyacht, ideas from your drawings of "Design concept class 5" can be seen in our finnished product. As well as some from your "sandpiper class 6".

Hi landyacht,
"spitfires and Messershmits." sounds like a ribbon & flag free tiggy game simliar to "Days of Thunder" WW1 (the great war & the true acceptance of flying) was much slower than WW2 dogfights.
In mackay 10-15 kont wind is good (cyclones are a bit strong for us).
I was in WA 20 years ago you get faster winds - too fast for triplanes!

Do ya's like the movies? - feel free to rate them &/or leave comments on them.

or how about trail a 5m ribbon or streamer behind your yachts and you have to try and run over the other person's ribbon?

Or like some of the people here, you could just try and run over their sheet rope

I`m sure it will turn out really well.

Deffinatly on my to-try-list[}:)]

Hi Hills your 5m ribbon idea is what we`re doing but we are using 3X4m. ribbons.
When seting up a game any No. & length of ribbons as long as they are all the same for each player.
If I trail my sheet rope do you think my brother and my dad
can help catching it? IF THEY CAN

Yes and out of that 30 years this one has featured some where.

Can you tell us a bit about this one Paul? It looks damn sexy. Got any drawings?

How would this one perform compared to Pacific Magic and Promo5?
Cheers Cisco.

I can only take credit for the sail. the rest of the work is that of Travis Bartlett ,in Kambalda. hes built 5 or 6 cl 5 yachts in the last few years and does seem to prefer the OTT style. At best I can keep up on a good day. trav is a very consistant sailor and you really have to push him to get him to make a mistake if you want to pass him. We had planned to have a cl 5 fiesta this weekend with AUS230 being in town , but I can hear the rain bucketing down

Your sail and that trike looks like a great combination. The simplicity of the chassis just looks sooo good. As long as you can get that centre join of the tubes right I reckon you could build a collapsable machine using alloy scaff tube as extensions from a centre spine frame ending just in front of the mast step and steel fittings on the ends to attach wheels.

What I am thinking of I guess is an OTT version of an IMAC Breezer.

Is there any chance Travis might part with a plan of that trike?

I've never know Travis to do any plans - he just builds - whatever he does it seems to work.

The local Blokart club spent a weekend at Midge Point. However the wind was only about 10 knots and they couldn`t move much. Fitting our 6m surf sails Jes, Ryan and myself had a great weeked exploring and trying formation stunts like :
two wheelers toward the camera,180deg slideout and two wheelers out.
It took a number of attempts to get the timeing right.

3x Jesses landyachts and 1 blokart racing the tide back to camp while exploring Midge Point.
Ryan has to hit the water at speed, that`s the way he is!

Sounds PDG (pretty damn good) to me.

OK, so I will ask the same question a different way. The next time you approach the "Spider" (It's got the Spider Man colours and it looks like the three legged Lefroy variety.), can you do so with a protractor and a 1m steel rule and give me three things??? 1. The angle between the back legs. 2. The angle between the front leg and the plane of the angle between the back legs. 3. The distance of the mast step from the point of those two angles.

With those three keys I believe I can figure the rest out and build a PDG yacht. If whatever Travis does works, you can't knock it!!

So how are the wet and salty sailors? Mouths frozen into an insane grin I'll bet.

Adios Amigos.

This sort of reminds me of "The Man From Snowy River", you know, when the Brumby's come in and upset the Thoroughbreds.
