Here is the latest
The group is 4 confirmed with a couple of maybes

Virgin blue is not as aggresive as jetstar in pricing now .So best deals that I can find are out with jetstar on wed 2nd or mon 31st and back on wed 9th or Mon 14th $465 with webjet incl all taxes and cc fees . next best is depart on wed 2nd or mon 31st and return fri 11 or sat 12th $565 . Next best is out mon 31st or wed 2nd back 16th for $600

I'm leaning toward the out 2nd (Sorry can't get mon off ) and back wed 9th or fri 11th .If you want to get there a bit earlier on the mon there is a bus to the beachouse http://www.fijibeachouse.com/fijibustimetables.html or you could get a cab (lots more expensive ) .Also if you want to stay longer the same applies

I'm going to book tonight after I've had a chat to you all

Regards

Lach

Hey Lach,
my guess is our resort is just under a k east of Namada, although it's not named on 'maps'. There's a lot of coral down there! Perhaps thats why they've named it the Coral coast? I luv where it says "very consistant SE trade winds between 15 & 25 kts April til November"
Gotta go, I'm still packing my gear.

Hi Col and everyone else If you want to locate the beachouse it is between Komave and Namatakula on google earth (where the road hairpins) you can see the bit out the front is very sandy in the water

Although the flight over is about that now anyway

Also booked jetstar to fly out 2-6-10 & fly back 12-6-10

FYI virgin on these dates was actually $6 cheaper and the insurance is half the price. But it leaves 50min earlier and gets there 10 min later

I have booked our accom (we pay when we get there ) and will finalise the vehicle now .It is a ford couriour twin cab 4 wd ute .That pretty well covers all the booking stuff .Don't forget your passport and don't forget luggage limits (i usually load upo my board bag with kites and everything that I can for the 20 kg and carry on shirts tshirts etc on hand luggage (7 kg I think)

I only got one board, a twin tip.

Do you reckon the Ute has a canopy or cover on the back?

Has anyone else going this time been to fiji before?

I never been OS kiting, so all new for me

G'day Ric

yes I have been to Fiji before. It's a great country and the people are really good too ,you'll feel a bit like a fish out of water for about 2hrs and then you will settle in really well .When we went there with our kids our youngest daughter transported a tick from OZ and when we got it out on the street a huge crowd gathered and it was a great spectacle .we had 50 instant friends .Haven't been to this particular area but have heard about it and have friends who have stayed there with their family and they had a great time (reviews are generally good too It aint the Hilton but it aint a slum either .I've booked a 6 bed dorm that we will have ) .I ,m not sure about a ute tray cover but I will ask .
Hopefully we will get plenty of wind but if we don't there is lots of other stuff to do . Only 22 more sleeps

answer to cam .It is out I have emailed the guy .he got back to me a month or so ago and it was fixed .nutin much to look at at da moment wind wise

Car AUD .
I am looking at other options too .I have discovered that if you write a 4wd off in fiji you are up for $4000 fjd excess .it can't be reduced .

i am looking at the chaffeur service to the beachouse which is $140 for everyone each way from the airport to nadi .We don't reallly need wheels except down to sigatoka and I'mm looking at a chauffer service to there when and if we need it

the excess is a big problem .The big guys like budget have a daily fee that gets this down but the car rental is looking like $350 each

I have found what seems to be the best option. We don't really need wheels once we get there except if we want to go down to sigatoka rivermouth. Harrys shuttle is based at the beachouse and will take us any of these places inc from the airport for $70 AUD for all of us .No excess to worry about there

Let me know if this is OK

I am happy to wing it and see what happens with no plans.
Sometimes that works out the best and we are flexible.

Maybe plan on bus etc to start with.

If it looks like being (dare I say it) a windless trip and we need to do some exploring to keep active we could then maybe get a hire car for a couple of days or so.

yeah I think that I will arrange the shuttle that comes from The beachouse and picks us up and then see what we need . Also I have managed to find a company that can do a mini van for $230 each (AUD) for the full time and that includes a fee that gets the excess down to $1150 AUD .If we need it we can get it there .I'm still not a big fan of sucha hefty excess but at least it is half the others

Alternatively, we could just catch the 4.20 local bus for $12fg each. That might be interesting. It's probably the norm for backpackers. Either way would be fine.
cheers
Col
P.S. I might leave my small board behind & take a 2nd kite instead. That should make it blow! But I still reckon the gurus broke. Green Island off Cairns has been a steady 20 knt every day.

Hi Col

Yeah I think the bus would be interesting .I think harrys shuttle might have fewer chooks and shopping piled onto it at $25 FJD each
this is on the website too "Harry's shuttle is the most practical way to get down, particularly if there is more than one person to share the cost"

hey guys,

just catching up on all the chat. starting to itch with anticipation now!!

thanks for all the work finding transport options & booking accom lach!

i'm totally flexible as to how we get around. harry's does sound like a good start tho.

ric, you asked if anyone needed help organising stuff. i'm looking for another board as existing too short for most winds.

lach suggested one on ebay but i missed it and haven't seen much come up since.

a 140+ is what i'm looking for. will keep looking a few weeks but may need to buy new if it gets too close.

a compatible board bag is also on my list. just incase you know of anything ?

let the countdown continue.
cheers,dan
