Good pick up Reflex Films, correct entries close 31 October, 2012 (not 2010)... Oops!

Seaweed:

I think it is fair to say its never been a problem (despite what was correctly reported about seaweed on Cottesloe Beach last week... where there was LOTS of it...).

A fair few of us have been training over the years and on race day(s) with race fin set up and certainly in years gone by, there has never been an issue. Personally, I've not seen a lot (read any) in the x 4 times I've kited this year.

Wind:

Will we race in 25 knots + ? If it is deemed safe on the day, yes.

The ideal conditions would be 20 to 25 knots, the last x 2 years have been light at around 18 to 20 knots in year 2010 and 16 to 18 knots in 2011.

The El Nino pattern (as distinct from La Ninja) is looking promising for 2012.

Last year it was work in North Queensland, this year I'll be in friggen Canada. Next year too.

Top 10 finisher from 2010 probably isn't going to secure me a spot anymore in 2014.

What are you worried about GP, your an administrator. When 2014 comes around, just remove all posts and threads relating to the L2L. Then you're sure a spot.

Hi L2L

My WAKSA membership run out last month.

Do I have to join WAKSA to complete registration? I stopped my registration as I noted I had to include a WAKSA number.

I will be an insured WAKSA member well before race day.

Kind regards.

Underoath.

Hi Underoath,

You should be fine, as long as you are a member before race day you are * all good * to race.

The rules of the L2L race stipulate that you need to be a member of WAKSA or AKSA (or your National Kite Boarding Association/ Federation if you are a sanctioned/ invited International Competitor) on or before the race day, that being 15 December 2012.

So, to be * technical * no you don't have to be a WAKSA or AKSA member to actually enter ... You will not be able to race though without paid up membership and yes we do check thoroughly before race day who actually is a member!

Entry Update

@ this morning we have received 87 entries (83 male, 4 female).

So, this bodes well for everyone who has entered thus far of securing a spot, with 17 male spots STILL available and 6 female spots STILL available. If you are thinking of travelling from the Eastern States to race, the early summer breezes have been good in WA.

As well, we encourage more female competitors to consider entering to win the first female prize of $500.

For everyone who is thinking about entering, there's just 16 days more to consider participating in Australia's longest open ocean kite boarding race, the Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton 2012.

$1500 Cash First Prize | Great Trophy | Bragging Rights for 12 months | Priceless

Totally with you on that one Snoopydog.
If it wasnt for the existence of WAKSA/AKSA there would be no Lighthouse to Leighton to enter.
If you are not prepared to support your sport you shouldnt be allowed the privilege of even getting a chance to enter.
Most out there know Im super pro WAKSA but to me this is a no-brainer.

Name me any other similar situation where you pay for your ticket after you win.

Hate to be critical of some awesome, selfless, dedicated people but I really think this *technicality* clause is very poor form on the part of race organisers. Needs to reconsidered IMO.

What happens if Mr or Ms non member wins a place in the field then still doesnt join.
OK they will found out & not allowed to start BUT ....
Presumably a full time WAKSA/AKSA members name was left in the hat - missing out on even a chance of getting seat on the ferry.

I am pretty sure that in previous years membership was a pre-requisite of entering the draw not just joining on the day. As it should be this year & forever on.

Actually - I just checked.
WAKSA/AKSA membership no. is a mandatory field.
Without it your registration into the draw wont process.
Good work all those behind the L2L banner.

Just a quick one!

How will the ballot work? will the names that are pulled out of the hat Not be able to compete, or is the draw going to take on the traditional form of drawing all 110 racers and if your not called your not in the race.

the reason I ask with the number of entries being so close to the amount of racing positions.

I think you will also find there was 10 spots for the top ten from last year as well.

I don't think the names were listed on here last year but emails were sent out to all successful (or unsuccessful) applicants.

I hope we get some decent wind this year.

Hey what about the last 10 from last year getting auto entry, or the DNF's

The only thing i was listening for at the draw was my name & it wasn't called out.

I do know that the top 10 from last year got auto entry, got to be some reward for being so damn fast.

Well I could tell you, but.........
Still been getting out a bit but just haven't been doing hardly any downwinders, often get days off during the week so end up kiting by myself up or down the coast somewhere.
No idea when emails will be sent out, I think it took a few days last year.
