I hate the "big" companys due to the way they portray and push the sport, the people they sponsor and the crap they sell.
This sport could be freaking unreal instead it is a shambles of queerness.
A few other key points come to mind when thinking about what is oh so wrong about this sport.
1. WAVERIDING.
Ok lets get this point clear. unhooked unstrapped waveriding looks awfull (i would rather watch a 10yo surf at least he would be able to roundhouse), no matter how hard you try it is never going to be even a fraction of what surfing is, to achieve that would be to defy physics (its just not possible).
Why dont we take a look at what the kite could actually help us with in this disipline and use it to our advantage?????? the one thing that instantly comes to mind is "AIRS" it would seem that kitesurfing is just about nearly made to do airs while waverding, it is perfect..... you can catch any wave you want, you can be in exactly the right spot, have all the speed you need and even have a bar to help you stop spinning/speed up or even spin the opposite way to what you are rotating (a kgb for example) something that surfing can never do, this sport could easily go beyond what is possible with airs surfing and at some stage they might actually be taking moves on the waves from us(wishfull thinking perhaps)
this leads me to number 2
2. WAKESTYLE.
How this is still such a problem in our sport is beyond me, but it is.
Ok, so we (stupid kite companys and kooks) have finally after many years done a stupid full circle (or two) and realised that wakestyle is the future and the forefront of our sport.... yes it has taken a long time but has finally got there (sort of). so why oh why oh why is it that people whos sole purpose is to try and imitate a sport (wakeboarding) dont look into the past of that sport (and even our own) and see the mistakes made and avoid those mistakes again? instead it seems as though they they take no notice.
e.g.
ok so the pkra has finally realised that a million spins and hp's isnt very nice to watch and that with every person doing this crap contests are becoming harder and harder to judge, so now they realise they need to add more power and style to the "wakestyle" moves, yet for some reason unknown (i think they are scared mostly) they still seem to be stuck in foot hook world, surley if you are trying to imitate something as clear cut as wakeboarding/cable, using the exact same tricks and trying to do them with the same amount of power and style you would take a look at the equipment they are using and take note?.... surely?....... yes well i guess that would be the logical thing to do.....but kiteboarding being such an illogical sport as it is has completley gone past this important piece of imformation and continued to look totally gay. when will people get it through there heads??? to ride "WAKESTYLE" properly with style and power (style being the key point) you need "WAKE BINDINGS"
Im sure eventually there will be groms putting the time and effort needed (yes its not a quick fix) into riding bindings properly and making something of this sport but it seems at the moment like this is another world away.
p.s. it is clear that it is going to change and head in this direction eventually worldwide so why not start today and be ahead of the game? YES im talking to you little grommet reading this, get some bindings and start tommorow......a real man would.
over and out.
Spot on about the waveriding Sir, agree 110%
Wake, hmmm, I know what you are saying and for REAL wakestyle agree, but most people are not up to it and most people are what makes the sport a reality, and pay all the bills.
I would love to see a comp where you could only ride bindings, that would be cool!
I hate haters.
