I find 27 tagged in 5 days a bit hard to swallow, I used to fish the snapper orgy a fair bit and as stated it's commonplace for three or four Whites to make pigs of themselves, to the point where they're lolling around like a drunken fat slapper at a teenage beach party.

But 27 different Whites over 3m in five days would be record breaking ****. Anywhere in the World.

Then again, maybe that's why we're the shark attack capital of the World.

Still can't believe one of these stupid ****s on kayaks hasn't been nailed at the Snapper orgy yet.

If you work on a few GUEST-IMATE figures..

So over a 5 day period how many of the sharks in the area do you think Fisheries could actually see, et alone tag? Lets play on the silly side and say a qtr…(i would think that a reasonable guess and welcome anyone else to through out a number). SO if they tagged 27 sharks that would mean over a 5 day period there would be around 108 Great White sharks over three meters of our coast…I just find it so hard to comprehend...

Also if you read the CSIRO report as of 6th of June they said since 2000 the WA fisheries had only tagged 6 Great white's in total.

Oh and SMicko did you read the latest death in Hawaii was a kayak fisherman

So he is saying they will also kill Tigers and Bull sharks..

Remember Barnett said they would dump the bodies at sea. If they start killing constant and dumping, as well as the original baiting, we will soon be all surfing in a huge constant burley trail

But one question if 15 over the last 5 days, why have they not eaten anyone? If Sharks are all about eating people? Surely they could have got a few today

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/20321918/15-sharks-qualified-for-cull/

Chinese whispers. Last week a 2.5 meter great white was reported to SLSWA in Mindarie. On Sat morning a lady in a beach PT group said she didn't want to go into the water because a 5 mtr shark was just sighted in Mindarie harbour

Hey Jb do you know how the sharks feed.Do they come back to get a good feed from the same place like we do,and if they did float a few back out would the others start to realizse that were catching them again and stay away, like we reacted to the 9/11 and Bali bombings, stopped travelling to the danger areas?

I guess we will have to wait and see won't we..

But somehow i don't think sharks feel empathy so if they see a few dead sharks, seals, fish what ever by catch is dumped, I personally think that would teach them to hang around for a easy feed

Then remember this is with in 1 km of shore. So when they start dumping dead fish and they drift, Which way will they float

I'd ask you to show where I've thrown my support in favour of baiting.

I'd ask, but seeing how you lack any kind of logic and reading skills, I know it'd be wrong to expect you to be able to back up what you claim.

So since we're throwing around baseless claims, I know that you like to dress up in a crotchless mermaid outfit and pretend you're goddess of the ocean, at night in your bathtub and use a latex shark as your boyfriend.

And you would have been in the 73% who thought the Earth was the centre of the universe, in the time of Copernicus.

Luckily time culls unenlightened thought patterns.

I posted the link but you could click on more than one choice..

Its really almost the only Poll i was able to find. I even emailed the TV channels, radio stations why they are not running polls this time round. I got one reply saying no point as they always end up very much one sided..I guess that also means not displaying the answers they were wanting

Its very simple, the majority simply do not support a Cull in any form..

I would have to agree with the kiteboy. (even though I suspect he might be a kiter.)
Again, it seems they have made up a poll to specifically ignore the most logical action, and that is a targeted removal of the offending sharks.
Why wasn't that option listed? Apart from the fact that it's the most obvious solution.

What sort of idiot would NOT want them to keep on closing beaches when there were sharks around?
What sort of idiot would NOT want them to keep on warning people of shark sightings?
(Yes I know, there's lots of kinds, so just list two or three.)

And how would you catch an offending shark? You would probably bait it, unless you were lucky enough to have it jump into your boat, and then you could stuff it with tuna so it died of a tummy ache. But then that's not likely is it?

They could have made the poll much more meaningful by addiing the option "Remove trhe offending shark".
But no. Let's keep everything obscure,. and usual.

Anyone that's well educated can see that that survey is flawed because the questions are skewed and not neutral like they are supposed to be

Any response to the perceived problem needs to be measured.

Doing nothing is obviously the most useless response.

I'm of the belief that any approach needs to be multi-tiered;

Personal protection devices need much more investment and development as I believe there is a lot of potential to develop measures that are unequivocally effective.

Obviously much more research needs to be done on shark behaviour, travels and the effect that close contact with humans is having/has had on them.

Early warning systems and beach protection/deterrent systems need to be researched and developed as well.

I don't believe that culling should be out of the question, but it needs to be approached in a responsible way, again, research into its effectiveness and ability to target the 'right' sharks, and even if there is a 'right' shark to target etc

All of these measures will obviously have different time delivered payoffs, but all need to be looked at, as there will be no one fix all measure, whether it's culling, tagging or any personally championed method, to think so shows a level of mental simplicity that is astounding.

So many polarized views due to ego, personal opinion and vested interests getting in the way, makes this a hard subject to discuss in a logical and rational way.
Something of this complexity needs a holistic approach.

But as you said previously, this is a discussion forum only, you're not here to try and find a solution; so why have the discussion at all?
