No you are the one who's telling us everything is fine and dandy, how our forefathers have delivered us and emancipated our society from the clutches of tyranny
and I'm the one giving you examples to the contrary
Doc, in almost every repect I agree with your opinions.
The only two things I don't agree with, and I don't agree because 2,000 years of history suggest to me they are not true are :
there is a single, united, stable, secret global controlling elite with a single purpose and a perfectly disciplined employee base of enough people to control the whole world, but too few to ever be revealled
the world is getting worst for the average Joe citizen, and today's generation is where the tangent of the spiral into tyranny starts
And to support this I'll offer :
I agree that those in power act in evil, secretive and self serving way. But I say it is because human nature means that to be in power (or to be called 'those in power') results in individuals acting in a similar manner. They don't do this because they are all buddies and members of one organisation and read from the secret manual, they do this because that is what individual people do to get into, and when in, 'power', and people have been doing it at a broadly similar level for all of recorded history.
If you think David Hicks experience in Guantanamo Bay is an example of the way the world is descending in tyranny with the people oppressed by the governers then read the account of say the black hole of calcutta. Aruguably two places with two groups of people imprisoned for similar reasons by similar powers for similar purposes. But, I wouldn't say that the public outcry, the legal avenues open to inmates, the survival rates and the conditions demonstrate that the current authorities are manifestly more evil than those that came before. Or try the sacking of Jeruslem by the first crusaders versus the invasion of Iraq. Two things done for reasons other than those publically stated, but in no way a clear demonstration that yesterday was free and happy, today is all doom and gloom.
So, in the same way that you are giving examples of how our forefathers have not delivered us from tyranny, I am giving examples of how todays elite are not driving us into a previously unknown tyranny.
And I am concluding that the tyranny we are currently in is no different to that of all recorded history, - except that life for the average Joe Citizen has got better with every generation, despite every generation believing that life in their generation is getting worse.
Every generation has said that the world is getting worse. It has not. So why now, when people today say the world is getting worse, should I believe them ?
