What about Holden, they released the VA, VB, VC commodores,
what ever happened to the VD?. You would think they would have had the foresight to have seen that one comming.

Holden just copied Chrysler's naming convention. I used to own a VF Valiant. There were VCs, VFs and VHes but no VD.

keep drinkin that vb and shoutin oi oi oi at every opportunity, obnoxious aussie morons, what is a car but a piece of crap that you drive and no matter how much you spend on it, its still costing you and losing you money, and retards still go into excessive debt for them, pay interest on something that is depreciating the moment you own it, an asset my arse.

'round here we have toss pots with 'aussie pride' stickers on jap cars and tools with 'unit' stickers on their back windscreens, i can't even be bothered to explain the irony....

A nice Australian car... get use to seeing this rear end... and I like the colour

How did this thread go from ugly cars to the Falcodore tribal warfare? Who cares which is best at what. When fuel is $5 per Litre you won't be able to afford to drive them anyway.

For sale, Falocodore, going cheap....

Sounds like something Sam Kekovitch would go on about! So true!
Totally love your opinion and so true!
I'd love a Navara, can I afford it!? No. I drive an '87 Skyline. Do I care what others think!? Nope. Its a car, it gets me from A -to- B and that's all that matters atm.

You should see the suburb where the Bombadore is assembled. Oh the Salisbury and Elizibeth locals are a classy bunch. Go for a holden drive day and meet all you non-dickhead dunnydore driving friends. I havent seen a single commo driving Bogan yet

FYI: The EA Falcon was the 1st 100% Australian designed car. And thats why there were so many problems with it. By the EB series II they had all the bugs sorted and redesigned almost every component on the car.

Meanwhile the VP was still leaking powerstreering fluid and spontaneosly combusting.

For my unbiased 2c

I was raised in a Fords only family and my Dad will still only drive em..

At my work I drive STANDARD versions of Hold my Commodes, Toyo Canwees, and Floored Foolcans

My rating for each STANDARD (ie affordable for most folks and note wastefull V8 posturing) is this

1. Canwees = very good build/finish, engine, handling and all-round good cars (I gave a 1/2 point nod to the Toyo though cause for a 3l it's engine/torque/gearing behaviour is brilliant, especially for nearly a litre less capacity. Also my experiance leads me to believe it will be the most reliable too). Score A+

2. Commode = also very good build/finish, engine, handling and all-round good cars, a bit more go than a Canwee but not hugely. Very nice handling and very surefooted braking Score A

3. Foolcan = An embarressment to Oz built cars!!! These (repeat STANDARD version) vehicles have appalling interior finish, lurching (and frankly dangerous) handling especially at freeway speeds. Even the stereo is pathetic in comparison!! These are so far below par I would be looking at Korean cars before a Foolcan. Annoyingly the overall design is so ordinary that the exhaust pipe sits proud of the bumper by 1 inch (I know becuse i know have a 'coffee cup stain' scar on my calf from loading audio gear out of the back!!! Yes - I branded myself!! Lazy/dated/stupid design all round in every single aspect. The one and only plus (?) is that the Floored car has the gruntiest (but least svelte delivery) engine if that floats ya tin-top Score D

Clearly the Foolcan has stayed behind for years and need some serious remedial tutoring to even be considered in the same league!

Feel free to bag the proverbial out of me folks... Fact is though that I semi-regularly drive all these cars, and don't consider myself alligned (well fessing up i do own a Canwee 99 model due to good fortune and desire for relaibilty) to any manufacturer - I just can tell the diff between shinook and Atlantic!

With the stocko cars (excluding the Camry) the Falcoon always produced more power and was considered more reliable than the bombadore (thats why falcons are used as taxis). The Bombadore was always lighter and a little better on fuel.

Around the track: its going to be crap whatever stock car you drive.

On the open roads: I always thought the falcon was more comfy and nicer to drive.

On dirt roads: The Falcoon is in a legue of its own. Nothin sits on the dirt roads better.

Disclamer: This was generally true apart from when the VL turbo was released and some premium commo V8 HSV models.

I was going to stay out of this one.....as it has deviated from the initial conversation, but I have to agree with walshd

"On the open roads: I always thought the falcon was more comfy and nicer to drive."

A quote I got from a one-eyed Holden man when I saw he'd bought a Ford was "You sit on a Holden.....You sit IN a Ford", He'd just recovered from back surgery and reckoned the Holdens were too uncomfortable to drive!

As for ugliest cars.....

Agree, the RELIANT is ugly and probably dangerous with that wheel configuration.

As to the Falcodore wars, some others:

Fix or repair daily

Found on rubbish dump

First on race day

Ford - At least they identified the problem and circled it.

Just Holden together with rust

Commondoor.

Had a few Falcons over the years and I'm not sad I let them go.

Owned a Commondoor and wasn't sad to let it go either.

I only own Jap cars these days as I like my cars to keep going without spending many weekends fixing them.

Looking at the positive, I wouldn't be the mechanically proficient person I am today without them (and some really bad Jap cars like the 200B).

Ha ha!!

The Datto 1600 (pretty sure it was one of the few models with no alphabet attched) was the most bombproof and guts (well for a tiny thing) little buz bomb ever!!! That is the little square jobby not a 120Y/180B etc.. 200B was the only serious lemon until they became Nissan and downhill pretty much from there..

Curious about the comment of Foolcans (yes my naughties creation - you can use with regular commission ) on the open/dirt road. yes they are like an armchair with wheels but i found they handled accordingly. Truly I found the body roll in particular really alarming!! It was like the Floored was half a ton porkier than the Canwee (yes mine) and Commode(wish I'd thought of that 20 years ago).

Also I can't believe how cheap n nasty Floored are with interior design. The change something every decade or so by the look - ie same basic interior on my old XY Falcon - one of the last good real Fords INMO - as on the XD series a decade or more later and Floored are still operating this way. Very nasty placcy finishes too. Grunty donk but not matched to gears etc the best which is a pity and lazy I reckon..

Oh BTW - didn't have time for a pic - my 1st car was a 2L 71 Cortina wagon (nearly all my mobiles have been wagoons) with chocco brown body and white roof.

That car was nicknamed the terd-mobile! Fugly, but that car with twin throut carby went like a shower of brown stuff!! Pity the gearbox was soo ordinary it would get hot and stick not alowing changes down again!! Bl00dy gearstick came out in my hand won arvy too - still I was tempted to drive 15kms in 3rd just to get to my girlfriend's house of ill-repute!

As per Flooreds in general, Tina's interior was ratshizen and every window winder bar one was stuffed so we had to hand around the communal winder to anyone who wanted some aircon... Good times (spesh at the drive-ins..) until I drove it into the ground, got 1.2k for it - p!ssed $300 up in Rotto and bought a $900 250 motorbike...

Kids who get flash cars 1st time around just don't get 'character' cars and how much fun they can be.. Gonna buy my lad a Datto 1600 if I can find one!

only prob with the datto, is by the time he's ready, the thing will be a collectors item, with old guys like us paying eye teeth for 'em just for the nostalgia kick, same things happened to the bloody mini moke...

.... if you don't have a first car you can paddock bash, squash fifteen mates in, or see how much air you can get jumping rises on out of the way dirt roads, you are truly missing out...
i know some kids down the beach who've spent more on a set of rims for their first car than i spent on my first couple of cars....
....and is it just me (probably) but it seems the more shiny someones car happens to be, the least interesting... personality wise... that person tends to be...?
