I am firmly on the anti drug side.
I make no apologies or allowances.
There is no room for grey areas- its plain black and white.
Much like Mark- I only visited this thread as I have a 15 year old son that I hope to god learns from the mistakes other people have made.
My posting of a couple of incidents at the hotel I worked at has brought back a lot of memories of stuff I would rather forget- mates of mine that are dead, or would be better off dead after the injuries from drug related incidents and "accidents".
Out of my class of apprentices- one sanded a finger off without knowing it.
Another head butted a steel lightpole on morley drive- after first going through his EH's windscreen.
Another just plain old lost his mind in a haze of smoke.
At the old Orchard hotel, the first hotel I worked at- we were finding druggies living in the abandoned building behind us- they would steal anything- sell anything for the crap they pumped into thier arms. selling weed and pills to kids to support thier habit. there were young kids living in these wrecked buildings being pimped out by druggies.
Later working at the scarborough hotel there were so many kids popping pills in the nightclub and main bar that I dreaded working the nightshift on fri-sat-sun.
Dragging kids out of dunnies that had collapsed with dehydration, rescueing young lasses from predators- (all too often not in time)
If (and thats a real big if) you could guarantee some form of self control and a safe environment where the kids could pop thier pill and not be preyed upon, or harm themselves in any way- with the medics on hand- I could almost agree to it.
But it will not work. Teenagers are risk takers, they will not go to a safe sterile version of an "injecting room" staffed by medics and security personnel with big brother watching.
A spaced out kid is too vulnerable to be looked after by thier mates who are most likely drug or drink affected themselves.
Our son knows what I have seen and been through at work, and knows all about my sister and the damage done to her and my hatred and loathing for those who led her into drugs, he knows his older brother has dabbled with drugs and it hasnt been all the fun it was supposed to be.
All we can hope for is our sonhas the fortitude to decline any offers, and I am pretty sure he is on the right track, and pleased he has a good group of mates at his church to mix with.
e0422713- If you can get your daughters to read through this entire thread, it might help them understand why you looked for the pills, and why you are so worried about them messing about with drugs.
The filthy stuff scares the hell out of me- I have never popped a pill- smoked a joint- and you probably wont believe it, but at 48 years old- never been drunk.
but by god drugs and booze have taken one hell of a toll on me.
I'm with you - 100%. I recently had all 5 of my now grown up kids (23 to 28 yrs old) home (a bit hard to do with several of them in other parts of the world) for #4 daughter's wedding, and I'm happy to say that kids
can grow up without having to try illicit drugs. We all have outstanding relationships with each other, and I
know I can believe each of them when they say that they've
never even had a try. In fact they're very proud of that fact. None of them smoke and they drink very little and very seldom.
They grew up hearing (amongst many other things) that, "You don't have to take poison to know it'll kill you". Each of my grandies so far is learning exactly the same thing.
If you, or anyone at all for that matter, has to do drugs to get by, or have fun, or to enjoy a party, or any other lame excuse, then you really should be seeking help for what's deficient in your life. My eldest daughter/child, who's here reading this thread with me, says, "My life is too full of positive stuff to risk missing any of it by poisoning myself".
Couldn't have said it better!!
On another tack, crime of nearly every description is up. We've been trying to stamp out crime since time immemorial, so does that mean we just give up and legalise murder, rape, robbery, assault and so on?
Illicit drugs, and the subsequent crime related to them are a blight on any community.
