Reading the stats - 4% use hard drugs and EU average is 3%.
So they have a 33% higher usage of hard drugs.
You can make stats say what you like....

Mike I think we will have to agree to disagree
This is getting circular

Anyway, I only checked out the thread as it was called teenage daughters

I am firmly on the anti drug side.
I make no apologies or allowances.
There is no room for grey areas- its plain black and white.
Much like Mark- I only visited this thread as I have a 15 year old son that I hope to god learns from the mistakes other people have made.
My posting of a couple of incidents at the hotel I worked at has brought back a lot of memories of stuff I would rather forget- mates of mine that are dead, or would be better off dead after the injuries from drug related incidents and "accidents".
Out of my class of apprentices- one sanded a finger off without knowing it.
Another head butted a steel lightpole on morley drive- after first going through his EH's windscreen.
Another just plain old lost his mind in a haze of smoke.
At the old Orchard hotel, the first hotel I worked at- we were finding druggies living in the abandoned building behind us- they would steal anything- sell anything for the crap they pumped into thier arms. selling weed and pills to kids to support thier habit. there were young kids living in these wrecked buildings being pimped out by druggies.

Later working at the scarborough hotel there were so many kids popping pills in the nightclub and main bar that I dreaded working the nightshift on fri-sat-sun.
Dragging kids out of dunnies that had collapsed with dehydration, rescueing young lasses from predators- (all too often not in time)

If (and thats a real big if) you could guarantee some form of self control and a safe environment where the kids could pop thier pill and not be preyed upon, or harm themselves in any way- with the medics on hand- I could almost agree to it.

But it will not work. Teenagers are risk takers, they will not go to a safe sterile version of an "injecting room" staffed by medics and security personnel with big brother watching.
A spaced out kid is too vulnerable to be looked after by thier mates who are most likely drug or drink affected themselves.
Our son knows what I have seen and been through at work, and knows all about my sister and the damage done to her and my hatred and loathing for those who led her into drugs, he knows his older brother has dabbled with drugs and it hasnt been all the fun it was supposed to be.
All we can hope for is our sonhas the fortitude to decline any offers, and I am pretty sure he is on the right track, and pleased he has a good group of mates at his church to mix with.

e0422713- If you can get your daughters to read through this entire thread, it might help them understand why you looked for the pills, and why you are so worried about them messing about with drugs.
The filthy stuff scares the hell out of me- I have never popped a pill- smoked a joint- and you probably wont believe it, but at 48 years old- never been drunk.
but by god drugs and booze have taken one hell of a toll on me.

give the police more funding and go for the dealers and importers harder i say.

We've tried this. No really, we've tried this every day for decades now. Seriously tried it. Constantly. Big international effort. A war even you might say, to coin Nixon, "a war on drugs".

Repeat:
It's supply and demand. When you shut down the supply the demand remains the same so the profit goes up. Major criminal gangs are not affected, they thrive off it. The more successful you are the more successful they are.

The war perpetuates itself, stupid.
:Repeat

I can't quote Australian figures here, but the U.S. has spent $1,000,000,000,000/one trillion dollars fighting this war. The result is what? More users than before, cheaper and more potent drugs, higher percentage of the population in prison than any country ever in history. A nation of criminals. And it's the very same population they are trying to protect.

We have lost this war. Completely. A long time ago. A new approach really is needed. The stigma needs to be removed; you can be anti-drugs & anti-war at the same time. Think of what else could be done with all that money and effort.

The other alternative is Singapore's approach. This really has been as effective as the decriminalisation approach introduced in other countries. Kill people to remind people that drugs can kill people.

Some of the people here who did some recreational drug use and are now functional members of society - well yippy fkn hoo, look at you.
Just because you did does not mean it is good for all. You all need to spend some time in a psych ward or hospital E.D on a weekend night.
I'm sure there is somebody in the world who drank drain cleaner and lived, does that mean you'd encourage your kids to - just a little bit, or 'reputable dealer' or in a 'safe' environment?

Some of the implied consent to your kids trying this, like telling them to try a smaller dose, is just madness.
I saw a 14 y/o try a hallucinogen once and throw himself at buses and cars in a 80 zone cos he thought they were giant pink bubbles. Serious.
I can't believe he lived - luckiest little bvgger in the world I swear.

I'd rather my kids got a bit pissed or tried ciggies, then had a bit of a lecture, than tried a harder drug and I will certainly never tell them it is OK if they just have a bit and don't get hooked. Yeah right, junkies got hooked because they wanted to.

I know knew more people that died from a drug overdose because people were too scared to call an ambulance, or take them to emergency, than died otherwise.

I absolutely agree though, they are definitely not good for all. No-one is saying they are good at all, it's just the attitude we take that needs change. I think people are asking for less aggression, more compassion. Why criminalise and alienate our own kids?

I don't think anybody is pro drugs. We're all somewhere in the grey.

'If' no longer. I can only hope the same might happen here.

My sister called me this morning to tell me one of my classmates from school just died of an OD. He had straightened out for a bit, gotten engaged, had a baby with one of our close family friends, but went off the rails again. His mother found him in her living room in the small hours of Monday morning.

I have images of the real pills and shown her.
She now has bolted since 6 pm and the cops say i can list her missing till after 24 hrs

Here's another retarded post from e-boy. ^^^
Not only is it illiterate, but it doesn't quite ring true for me anyway.
You freaks don't actually believe his fictional story, do you ?
lol.
The dude's saying he took photos of the pills and then showed her the pics.
Why would he do that ?
Why wouldn't he just confront her with the real evidence ?

Well anyway, if it's not true (e-boy's story) ...
then it's a big dumb lie and it sucked in a ton of people.
But why involve family members in discussions on stupid Seabreeze ?

but by god drugs and booze have taken one hell of a toll on me.

I'm with you - 100%. I recently had all 5 of my now grown up kids (23 to 28 yrs old) home (a bit hard to do with several of them in other parts of the world) for #4 daughter's wedding, and I'm happy to say that kids can grow up without having to try illicit drugs. We all have outstanding relationships with each other, and I know I can believe each of them when they say that they've never even had a try. In fact they're very proud of that fact. None of them smoke and they drink very little and very seldom.

They grew up hearing (amongst many other things) that, "You don't have to take poison to know it'll kill you". Each of my grandies so far is learning exactly the same thing.

If you, or anyone at all for that matter, has to do drugs to get by, or have fun, or to enjoy a party, or any other lame excuse, then you really should be seeking help for what's deficient in your life. My eldest daughter/child, who's here reading this thread with me, says, "My life is too full of positive stuff to risk missing any of it by poisoning myself".

Couldn't have said it better!!

On another tack, crime of nearly every description is up. We've been trying to stamp out crime since time immemorial, so does that mean we just give up and legalise murder, rape, robbery, assault and so on?

Illicit drugs, and the subsequent crime related to them are a blight on any community.

You can't possibly be serious. Did you think that out before pushing enter? Are you really comparing an occasional pot smoker to a murder/rapist. Braindead idealogy like that can only worsen the problem and has been for decades.

I feel compelled to reply somewhat to this

The anti/anti stance doesnt work believe me i have experienced and lived it

The lets all get on it doesnt either, there are repercussions for some

All you have to do is talk not dictate(other than make kids read and be aware of what they are doing if they are going to do it)

They will do it anyway if they choose to, whether you agree or not, better that if they choose to(hopefully not), they can call you anytime when they are scared/in the **** and you can be there to help
