Being that close for the past two attacks gives me a whole new perspective these days.
just about everyone I surf with down here are all for it.

Can you expand on that?

(PS probably hijacked poll results graph on previous page)

Just got back from a surf at Carpark and it had that real sus feeling about it this morning, maybe I've been reading too many shark threads!
Just to expand, I was at the Wedge attack 20 minutes after it occurred with old nurse Annie and then spent 3 days searching for any remains with no luck. I was at the Lefties attack 45 minutes after it occurred. Both days of the attacks were so similar, 2 foot surf, 100 metres off the beach in 4-5 foot of water and people everywhere. Why are the sharks coming in so close?? These are oceanic predators capable of swimming 1000's of miles not shoreline lurkers. If we take out some off the big guys or maybe old or sick sharks I've got no problem with that and most people down on the Capes have very similar thoughts.

At 1m long it'd probably be around 8-12months old and 1 of 40 odd pups born. Its a bit worrying possibly having 30 more 3m+ tigers reproducing off WA. Colin has done the right thing.

Heh, who knows really. 13 tiger shark attacks in hawaiian waters in 2013, one over east recently. Possible unidentified attacks in wa. Some fatal some not but if my german shepherd bit your leg and you survived you'd want him destroyed even if he mistook your leg for his squeeky toy!

I've seen big tigers first hand at places like the montebellos and they really arent the friendliest of creatures

Not saying they wouldnt but over we dont get attacks by them here so why target them. Attacks and not fatalitys.

Didnt a bloke over east get killed by a tiger late last year?

A tiger shark is a tiger shark no matter what ocean, estuary or river they swim in. They will still attack a human being.

Against!
I'm also very surprised with the result. I guess everyones connection to the ocean differs but I would've thought most fellow ocean users appreciate getting out in one of the few remaining wild places where things are still in balance (more or less) and there is an element of rawness. The idea of sanitising our local waters to make it a safe playground is pretty sad, as is the pointless killing of marine life that in no way poses a threat. Above all my biggest issue with the drum lines is that it won't work and will in fact bring more sharks closer in that would normally stay offshore. Fisheries themselves commissioned a study and the result was they recommended against the use of drum lines. Forget all the hippie tree hugging bull.... marine scientists everywhere are saying the same thing. I was at Mulluloo this morning when they dropped the first lines there, I spoke to quite a few random folks and they were all dead against this so I guess this poll is in no way balanced towards what your average ocean user thinks about the issue.

Not a good analogy, German Shepherds are not endangered. They are nicely domestic because we've continually culled out the snappy ones. On the other hand the non-domesticated strain of the species has been re-introduced to Yellowstone National Park, which had lacked an apex predator, with spectacular, cascading benefits to the waning ecosystem. If one of the wolves at Yellowstone did bite someone on the leg you can be sure there wouldn't be an an indiscriminate cull.

So far they have caught two small tiger sharks, Im sure they wont kill them all but Im sure Im not the only one to see this is a waste of tax payer money.

Above all my biggest issue with the drum lines is that it won't work and will in fact bring more sharks closer in that would normally stay offshore.

They're already in close. If anything the drums will draw them out.
4m white 60m off city beach last weekend incase you hadn't heard.
Anyhow drums are in. I'm happy. Lets keep this thread a poll. Not another 24 pages of repetitive dribble.

yes!
Lots of comments here that could be expanded on if people want but there are numerous other shark threads here.
Why stuff up this one with stuff that can be said on any of the others.

You just need to count the WA surfers (and minus surfers over 40s) and then count the rest of Australia and that will answer Your poll. Haha

That would have been me I wanted to check if you could vote more than once, as often is the case, because if you can it can't be trusted. I then added a few votes and thought id throw it up for a laugh, but i remembered not many have my sense of humor and just moved on..Sorry.

Sadly there is now too many non vote replies. But i concede defeat and i will say i am generally surprised..

I think shark attacks are a real problem in WA

I also think sharks have a right to live freely in their own environment

I also think we should ban picket fences as they are too uncomfortable to sit on

Just jokes, For!

Then continue to be amazed.
I've spent the last 15 year restoring 500 acres of farmland back to natural bushland, all at my own time and expense.
I'm well aware that the earth needs more restoration but it wont happen if we put everyone offside by having wildlife feasting on people, be it tiger snakes, kangaroos, magpies or sharks.
Whatever the result is, it has to be people friendly or it wont happen.

I vote yes. (oh wait,.. I think I've already voted,.. or did I just think I did?,.. or was I just dreaming,.?.was I getting into the bath or out of the bath,? ..what did you say??.something about floss was it,.? yes I floss. . )

results up to here;-
Page one ..........,12 for : 12 against
Page two ........., 22 for : 2 against
Page three ,....... 15 for : 1 against.
Page 4 , to here .. 2 for: 1 against
------------------------------------
Total ..... . . . . . . 51 for : 16 against.

approx one in four against the targeted cull. Three out of four agree.
And yet almost all the noise is anti cull. I wonder what that means?

Only 3 votes on page 4 and the page is nearly finished.

evilpanda,.. nice graph but are you going to vote?
$20 fine if you don't.

I hope you're not just waiting to see which side wins so you can vote with the side which wins!!!
