Try front foot in strap. You may be sneaking it a bit forward and that will glue you to the water. Back foot sounds fine.
Try mast base 105 ish cm from front tuttle screw. Edit: iirc, some IQ foilers go back even further to 100-102 but starting with it too far back can be scary. Like Subsonic says, experiment with small changes. A cm or two can make a difference.
At your weight, you'll need to be at least semiplaning to take off unless you have a really good pumping game. That rig can take a lot of wind. I was sailing in 10-20 kts the other day with a 6.9 and SB 725 front wing and weigh only about 65 kg. Don't be afraid to power it up. When it's off the water though, it'll glide better through lulls than your old foil.
I'm on the orange board.

Props to Duotone for some new windfoiling gear (even if it's derived from wing). NP, are you listening? With the new Swift wings, you are one decent fuse away from a good windfoil.

C'mon. Gotta be shopped. That's not a stable system.

Nope. He's been riding it for years. I've read his and his friends' postings in their local email list. I know a few seabreezers see him (not sure how often). Where he sails can be a challenging place.
Zeeko briefly had one back 5-6 years ago, too.

Anyone got any experience with the F-One Plume?
I`m a keen winDfoiler up to about 15 m/s, then I`m in the mood for the F-One Plume 4.2.
Was out today in about 8-10 m/s. Can stand on the board, but not enough wind to get on the foil...
(Slingshot Wizard V4 130 l and Slingshot Phantasm E990 and I`m about 90 kg)

Grateful for any feedback

You may want to post this in a new thread so you get better visibility. Also, add what sail you are using.

If you haven't seen him, George Grisley has been posting some nice foilstyle moves along with his fin freestyle content. Nice to see him along with Balz (and others) showing us what can be done on foil.

"Johan Søe has officially withdrawn from the 2026 PWA slalom season, choosing instead to fully commit to his Olympic and iQFOiL campaign. The Danish foil specialist often known as the ‘Beast’, has won every slalom event he has entered since 2023!"
Two of the best PWA foilers (Soe and Goyard) are now campaigning IQFoil even with the new 8m sail limitation. There's a whole lot to read into this. One thing that comes up to me is that the PWA limitation on the number of hydrofoil wings forced a trend to larger sail sizes and smaller hydrofoil wings, the opposite of what most recreational riders use. It also dampened development of performance lightweight gear as most of the focus was on smaller wing sizes as opposed to bigger wings that would be used by or influence the gear of rec riders.
For all the chatter about the IQ gear being meh compared to modern designs, it probably is but still can provide a good day on the water. It's a shame that Starboard stopped selling the additional gear (wings and fuses) that were compatible to extend the usefulness of the IQ gear that racers offload.

I should add that I have nothing against smaller wings for those with the skill, determination and gear. But, they can be daunting to the intermediate or heavier rider.

I guess the issue is stiffness and cost for windsurfers.

im keen to try it too. Interesting but does seem like a lot of work. My next build is a freemove/style board and I'm going to drill the core like tw custom but more like holes in acoustic treatment ie. smaller dia holes spread at equal centres. I saw a similar idea for a strip plank build. Will avoid certain areas and not fully drill trough so bottom has some shape.

I'm getting drillium vibes - a big thing in the 70s and early 80s when it was "cutting edge" to drill out components to save weight. Then we dropped a couple of kilos off the frame and it didn't seem so important any more.

Hyperlite? Is this an updated FoilGlide? With all the tariff bs here in the US, we haven't been seeing new gear very much.

I would like to boards go away from EPS which sucks water to closed cell foam.
Hollow boards have a place for race boards.
Been more into winging and a few companies have closed cell foam such as Appletree and PPC.
Talking to a PPC board rider that their hollow race wing boards have a bulkhead, so they don't sink!

Also seen some home builds using Extruded polystyrene, and on the topic of "gassing" reply comment is that pin holes are your friend.

To your point 515 regards hollow boards.. Naish have released hollow foil boards too.. I wonder how much cost reduction is available if the tech can be up scaled

article.

And at the other, more pointy end, there are experiments with stainless steel/cf composite masts. Not light at all but competitive. I've heard about similar in Moths. Not all edges of the envelope involve small reductions in weight .

3d printing in Ti is a thing now in bespoke bikes. It might be interesting what additive construction techniques might bring our sport.

So, since the topic of the 105+ came up, for otherwise equivalent setup (sail, wing), how much shim angle change from going from 115+ to 105+ - say, I'm using +1.0 shim on IQ fuse.

Yes, nice one, does it have weed to get it really smooth?

The weed doesn't really smooth things out like Lake George. I don't ever recall seeing the butter smooth water that I've seen in LG videos (I've never sailed there). But there are shallow flats that can keep the water smooth for really nice runs in certain wind directions. In other directions you can sometimes get a short, steep wind chop that can be annoying.

In general, it's pleasant to windsurf there. We used to joke after returning from a trip there and faced with the reality of jibing on lake chop: Everyone is a hero in OBX

It is, indeed, a great destination and one of my favorites.

Foilklaus, what foil did you match that with? I have an LT sail that would enjoy an outing.

Thank heavens Balz never got the "hype is over" memo.

Mario has found his niche and dropped a new one. Windfoiling is dead because we can all afford to holiday in Tarifa instead of the crappy lake 45 minutes from my house where I've foiled 6 hours this week with a 7.7 in conditions a fin couldn't touch.

Same problem : he says you need a big wide board, specific sail, expensive top end foil... and that is true for race winDfoil. But also this leads those who never tried winDfoil to think it's the only way : cumbersome, expensive, and for high end top riders. VS winGing that is still somewhat easier. No doubt this will keep winDfoil a niche sport.

...
The only problem is that most informations available on winDfoiling only talks of racy gear, and if not, there's a lot of 'not very good advises'.

Totally agree. Five yr old used gear still delivers a ton of fun. That's what I was using this week since my launch is kind of tricky and I'm not in the mood to destroy my good foil.

Nico just dropped a new video and admitted he's hardly been on a windfoil in months. At least he's back on - a shiny new toy will do that. Looking at the results of Trofeo, I'm wondering how much less interest in PWA foiling is because so much of the talent is in the IQFoil pool, instead? www.trofeoprincesasofia.org/en/default/races/race-resultsall

Am I the only one too lazy to switch fuses? Usually if I'm overpowered, I find someplace up or downwind to go for a while. The 105 just serves as ballast in the van. I guess I should get it out more often.

Ebay was my source with I was buying a bunch of pad material a couple of years back. I don't know what the cost for you ordering from the Far East is.

Yes, we in the US have shared your tariff pain in our own way.

Howz the foiling going ?

Due to various little issues, I only just had my third session today.

After a disappointing session on the river (too gusty - on and off), I tried Hillarys North Wall, which was much better.

Still a lot of balance issues, but progressing well I think.
A lot of half-flying with the tail skimming the surface, but an occassional clumsy flight often ending with the foil out of the water.

An interesting situation when you hit a wave not flying, and once over t he wave the board stays up

I think back on my dark days of starting out... Sounds like you are doing great. Don't feel an urge to force it out of the water or fly high at first. Get it off the water and learn how to quickly put it back down. Resist the urge to look at the nose of the board.

It won't be long and as my OG local friend put it you'll realize that you've been flying long enough for the board to dry off.

... judging outhaul by how much it can touch boom rather than the tail guide ropes.
In the past i was not giving enough downhaul and again as above, felt heavy, sluggish, and would pull me forward too much.
Also the outhaul tail guides are not really right, usually i'm giving much less outhaul. This may be as i find that i want the sail to open for downwind bearaways.

+1 I just wanted to add that I always used the outhaul guides and the outhaul specs for most sails, in general, as where I set the boom, not necessarily where to set the outhaul which is usually in from there. That allows a bit of adjustment room on the water if the wind comes up. Obviously, sails where I use adjustable outhauls, I'm often way in from the boom when I need more power or bearing off. I see too many people who automatically just pull the sail tight without regard to conditions.

Would filling the screws holes and screws with grease, vaseline, etc., be a good idea ?In the same time protecting these screws against corrosion.

I always leave foil and mast mounted.

If the screws are good 316/A4 stainless, corrosion is less of a problem. It's really the aluminum fuselages we try to protect so a bit of thin marine grease on the threads and where the screw head contacts the fuse helps inhibit galvanic corrosion.
I wouldn't go slathering grease on the outside because it makes it easy to then get it on the wing or mast which promotes water separation and ventilation. I'd think a touch on the head is fine but be sparing with it.

how to you set your harness lines compared to finning? bit more back would make the front go down even further.. ?

Balanced which is often a touch further back than one might assume. I find a good way to see is sail hard upwind powered or slightly overpowered. That's when, especially with anything less than a full on race sail, you'll feel more backhanded.

For those starting out, it's common to have them a bit forward. As we need less sail pressure to foil than plane, not having them back far enough doesn't really become apparent or necessary. However, as you venture out into more powered up conditions you'll find that the backhand pressure can result in corresponding back foot pressure (to oppose the back hand pull ). This results in the board wanting to rise when you probably aren't wanting that.

Hi
My recommendation
Shim the Back Wing to more angle of Attack

I have done it in several Foil Setups and its very efficient
Ideally measure your actual Angle with a cheap Tool and increase by 1 to 3 degrees
Possible even with washers or a small 3D printed shim

He said it was already at max "lift". While you may be correct that he might have to beyond that, it's not a common case.

OP, just checking: that does mean the front edge of the stab is pointing down, forcing the back of the fuse down, right? Some foil manufacturers use confusing terms on their shims and "positive" shims actually have less angle.

Sorry Muppet they do. They get a bunch a factory made boards and test them. They choose one as it feels faster or lighter or whatever to use in races. Ptsf meant identical as they get a few of the same model

Same even in one design classes. A friend was in charge of the IMCO gear at a long ago Olympics and competitors had to be limited on how many boards and sails they could try (or measure) before selection. IQFoilers definitely are choosy about foils, sails, etc.

Try it without the back straps. Sounds like you aren't that far off if you are currently sailing with the back foot in front of the straps. That's where I sail when I have more than enough lift and need to keep the nose down.

If you watch PWA videos you can see nearly every screw taped over. I use foil tape to cover mine, but the difference is extremely subtle...unless the tape starts peeling off of your stabilizer screws.
