Wings of many brands are exploding when being inflated or when left in the sun.
I recently bought a 6m from a brand i will not name (because they refunded me without any trouble) that exploded (2 foot long tear from valve towards wingtip) on first inflation.
I was inflating a tad above Minimum recommended pressure and afterwards i checked the pump by connecting it to two other pumps, pressure readings were identical.
In the quest for more grunt many manufacturers are going nuts with bigger chambers and higher pressures. The materials cannot take it.
I would think if one uses a brand that is popular in Maui heat all should be ok in Australia.
Maui,Australia or Europe...what i mean is that construction and materials being used in Wings are not enough for the big diameters and pressures in many designs. Not just Armstrong.
A kiter friend told me that kite designs also went through a phase of higher PSI and had to eventually back off because they were blowing up too often.Do not know if this is a fact.
Winging is in very early stages and we are all kind of beta testers , but 1000$ wings exploding on inflation are IMHO a clear sign that something has to change.
If big diameter+high(+7psi) are the only way to grunty ,stiff Wings then said wings will have to be more reinforced (heavier).
That or new materials or construction methods.
Meanwhile i have bought two wings from a brand that uses max 4psi for a 6m size, safer territory i hope :)
