I'm arriving Mon with the caravan for a couple of months and would like to sail and meet up with local sailors I have 76 wide and 66 wide slalom boards and 5, 5.7, 6.6 7.8 sails. Is there a link to tassie sailing spots? Any info will be much appreciated.

Down south (Hobart) there are probably only 2 spots where its fairly flat/smooth. The Pond at Cremorne and Marion Bay (Marion you will need a weed fin). Other spots in the state are Stanley, Henty and Port Sorell.

East Inlet is looking ok for Wednesday.
Mid morning to mid afternoon.
Turn off the main highway head towards Stanley, it's about 2 km on the right hand side of the road.

WillyW is looking better for Tues and Wed on easterlies. The eastern inlet (per Cookie above) is a whole lot of fun for flatwater as the tide drops. you can see the three channels that appear as tide goes out in pic below. Might even see you there if i can sneak off work.

Stanley Spot Guide
EAST INLET
Is one of the premier flat water sailing locations in Tasmania. Constant winds and a complex series of three major channels (plus minor channels) is the main attraction. The main feature is the Third Channel, several hundred metres long, running in a roughly north-south direction, parallel to the foreshore. This the prime target for speed sailors in east to north-easterlies and west to south-westerlies. It usually involves a walk of 200 or 300 metres across the sand flats from the rigging area. Generally good for two or three hours either side of low tide. Low tides of less than .06 metres can be a little too shallow particularly in the mid section. The western banks disappear with the tide about an hour sooner than the eastern side. As the banks disappear and the sand flats fill with water you can sail directly back to the rigging area. The First Channel runs along the foreshore and is a great spot for beginners because it is so accessible and generally safe. It can be good for speed sailing in an easterly particularly when the Third Channel fills in. In a westerly the wind is patchy because it is too close the foreshore. The Second Channel, about a third of the way out to the Third Channel, is often worth a few runs on the way out or on the way back. When the channels and sand flats disappear with the tide the East Inlet can still be a fun place to sail depending on how you handle the chop.

WEST INLET
The opposite side of The Neck to the East Inlet.The channel runs roughly east-west for a couple of hundred metres. In a south to south-westerly or a general northerly direction this is probably a better choice than the East Inlet.The turnoff to the West Inlet is clearly marked several hundred metres before the East Inlet turnoff.Four wheel drives can travel across the rocky foreshore area to rig close to the start of the channel.Less adventurist drivers will probably rig on the road (track) near the boat ramp access.

I checked out the site this afternoon and I'll be sailing there tomorrow.

Yeah, managed to get a sail there today, mentally windy. BIG thanks to Barry for loaning me some gear and being the local guide - an awesome arvo of sailing

Had six days at Launceston sailed three times and couldn't get going properly once and seemed to be at the wrong place at the wrong time every time. I really miss not having having local knowledge..meanwhile I'm seeing local sailors on ka having a great sessions. I'm at port Sorell for the next few days and it's forecast 15-16 knot NE. Maybe this time....?

How do you join?

There's no whatsappgroup up north for flat water mate. There is a wave whatsappgroup I think, no idea who or how.

Should have hooked up with Geoff who normally sails the Tamar everyday, Rosevear's, paperbeach, Kelso or lagoon.
As you know he sailed nearly every day :-/
Port Sorell has some great spots nearby for a few wind directions. You might get light wind coming into the bay for high tide sailing - but won't be much compared to what Stanley was! ;-)
