I don't know anything about SLW boards, but slalom boards get planing well before anything else. A 100L slalom will get planing before a 120L freeride. They are fragile, though. And harder to gybe (harder to initiate, but all that volume under your feet helps to plane out, provided you footwork is good... in theory - I haven't yet) But after riding one, freerides are boring.

your right Faff .they defiantly plane earlier .my 115 patrick can almost plane as quick as my 125 rocket .but the rockets are no way boring .

i love the speed of the Patrick ,so smooth to ride .and great top speed .
rocket is nicer in chop ,more free ride feel but lively ,quite fast can 't seem to get it past 57 Kms .
havent had a good blow yet to test the Patricks top speed ,but I reckon it will be a lot more .but really nice in it s sail range .on their site they say 7.-8 ,which is pretty spot on .the rocket will handle a bigger sail 8.5.is it limit I feel .but a great ocean board.

Steve Stratfold has various sizes for sale of Patriks going cheap. He is the distributor of Patrik boards. From 1k to 1800 for version 4 of the 128,135 and 140.

All are new or as new.

I owned the 122 litre 77.5 cm wide previously. In comparison the 85 cm wide 135 V3 I bought last week I thought it might be too big for my 70kg but i do not notice any difference in top end with the 122.

The extra buoyancy is great when gybing in non planing conditions. Impossible to fall off!

135 slalom or 155 free ride . it does sound like your a free ride guy .79,5 wide will run through the chop better.for sure .over a 85 .
I'M just thinking whats going to be the best and fastest board for 8,5 and 9.5 .and my 97 kgs .

I used an 8.6m on both 135 and 155 and it was spot on (I'm 90-95 kegs). I have a 9.6m race sail that I tried on both and it's doable but I wouldn't say it's comfortable. If you really want to go that big then take the early advice on a SLW or similar but make sure you understand the trade offs. A 155 FR gybes like a small board and can even play in small waves, if the wind picks up it behaves. A SLW will get you planing maybe 2 knots earlier and be more comfortable with the larger sails and is probably a knot quicker in its window but those fat arses that give you a big fin makes it gybe like a truck. They're all great at something - half the trick is understanding what you really want

sorry i haven't up dated ,but i purchased a 140 patrick freerace ,got a new last years for a great price ,
yet to ride it ,

reason for the freerace ,was it is 80 wide not the 85 or 90 .thats my pet hate ,its 2340 long best for sails 7.0 -9.8
.my last 85 wide board was scaring in short chop ,at time ,it just drove the bump force straight through your back .

I Hope I've chosen wisely ..

if its as good as my patrik 115 with the large double concaves ,it should be quite nice .and forgiving ,but still fast .
