I really like my SB ultrasonic 147 but she's wide at 95. Fast too! Almost 30knts (so far) with twin cam 8.2

Thanks guys ,will take a look ,at the starboard ....just makes me wonder if 138 litres is enough to make a difference from my sold 130 Titan at 84 ..it was very low in volume at the rear ,and quite a narrow tail .
i always believe a thicker tail gets you through the lulls .volume and width .i think that was its down fall.
it seemed to like 13 knots up ,

i liked the look of the Patrick 140 ..good call .

I've got Patrik SL 115 and 135 and had the f race 140 before the 135. If you sail on the ocean mainly, go for the F Race over the slalom. Both are a perfect gap for ocean and flat water though. At the same weight as you I cant see the need for the 125 Rocket unless its your favourite board. I have the same issue in the smaller sizes.
Edit. Just noticed your after a board for flat water.
That's why I swapped to the 135. Though less volume is 5cm wider and I mainly sail on the flat now and it carries the big sails a bit better. I may even stick a foil in it soon.

I think it all comes down to what your light wind target range is. I'm lighter than you at 83 kgs, but I would go 200 plus liters of board volume. That would very possibly get you planing in 10 knots with your big sails, with a good size fin. I would be very generous with lots of volume for light wind sailing, or get foiling. I feel 140ish liters is way to close to your 130L Titan. If you up those liters by a huge amount, that's where you'll notice a huge difference.

Agree with jirvin's recommendations of SB Ultrasonic & JP slw.
I'm a 90kg rider on a 141 Futura, 80cm wide with 9.2 sail. It takes 13.5 knts to plane.
I would imagine 10cm increase in width would better suit the heavier rider.

I can only vouch for the SLW 90 wide. The width at the tail means you can put a big fin in, I usually use a 60cm RSX fin in the light stuff with a 9.5 Overdrive or 9.2 Turbo & swap down the fin once it gets too much.

From what I have read Tardy you seem to be at a high enough skill level that means you don't need a tough skin board, but would appreciate the lighter board to get you going sooner.

My Ultrasonic is a 2014 model and is still going strong despite a LOT of sailing. Its the carbon model. Personally I find carbon boards last better than some of the more "tough skinned" models- yes they ding with rough handling but they repair really easily and dont end up looking like golf balls. i have a similarly aged, and much less used board in a "tough skin" ( a Fanatic HRS) construction that looks seriously worse for wear..so I agree going carbon is good idea!

Super Light Winds are a great light wind board. I have the smaller of the 2012 models. 90cm wide and 154 litres.
Carbon construction, but I don't think they are as fragile as suggested. Mine has the hard nose guard survived any number of catapults, and is still in good condition for a 2012 board, no soft spots.

I have also had a number of older Go's. Best of the bunch as a light wind board was the 165 from around 2007ish I think.
Very durable as Paddles suggested, but the SLW is way lighter, quicker to plane and keep on the plane.

I have no real issues with the SLW in the chop. Don't know if the bigger ones have more of an issue in this regard. I believe there is a fair bit of difference in the design of the two versions, not just a step down in size.
I feel the effect of the chop more on my 134 Futura, much harder on my dodgy knee than the SLW.

I came from a 2005 SB Formula board as a light wind board before I bought the SLW. First sail on it after the Formula I was amazed how easy and relaxed this board is. I reckon I was able to sail the Formula for around an hour at most and I always felt beat up afterwards. Stressed me out trying to get into the way outboard straps and downwind was an all or nothing proposition.
Not as quick to plane, but the SLW is an all day proposition for me if the conditions stay steady.

I have also had a Drops Formula board and another an old SB Free Formula. These are both good early planning boards, but the SLW is a still a stand out.

Not an Ultrasonic as yet. Jirvan is the guy to talk to about a direct comparison from our group.
I have sailed a 134 isonic and it was no where near as early planning at my weight which is north of 100kegs. Faster by far though as you would expect. 85cm compared to 90cm and a narrower tail.
From my memory of a conversation with Jeff, it was more performance oriented than the SLW, but a bit like my formula experience. Not as easy to sail and tough to go downwind on, but he loves it when he gets it to work for him.

I think that the newer JPSLWs are a bit more speed orientataed than before.

Did you have any flotation ? I would have thought paddling on the board would have been more efficient than swimming ?
