am thinking the wind will start to kick in around midnight. i hope so anyways. i'm getting nervous with anticpation to see what actually happens.

has been some impressive gusts today in the areas south of the low.

25-40knots seems to be the norm.

but in the meantime. if you switch your radar to 256km and turn on weather observations in the check box to the right of the radar screen.

look at the wind arrow for prosepine airport. it's showing a northerly wind. if the centre was near the coast that would show a westerly wind. if the centre was off the coast that would show a southerly wind.

i think what you are looking at is the convergence zone to the se of the centre.

if you go to the townsville radar and look just NW of ravenswood i think that probably closer. at this stage i can't see the low going offshore. if it does then it will explode.

Synoptic Situation:
At 10pm, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald was located over land, approximately 150 km west-northwest of Mackay and moving south-southeast at about 20 kilometres per hour. The monsoon trough extended from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald and then to the east coast near Fraser Island.

Destructive winds with gusts in excess of 125 km/hr are possible about the Central Coast-Whitsundays and Capricornia districts. Areas that may be affected include islands and coastal areas between Bowen and Agnes Water.

Damaging winds with gusts to 90 km/hr are possible over the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Areas that may be affected include islands and coastal locations between Agnes Water and Sandy Cape.

Heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding is likely over the Central Coast-Whitsundays, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, eastern parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, extending to the Sunshine Coast during Friday. Coastal locations and adjacent inland areas between Bowen and Brisbane may be affected. Six hour rainfall accumulations of 100 to 200mm are possible. Heavy rain areas are expected to begin easing from the Central Coast-Whitsundays district during Friday morning.

Ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald is expected to begin moving towards the south southeast later today. A trough extends from Ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald to the southern Capricornia coast.

Absolutely crazy last two days. Lost internet & mobile reception for 24hours. BOM rain gauge was broken in Yeppoon up until 4pm Thursday afternoon but enough people I have spoken to said with rain starting very heavy Wednesday and up to 9am Thursday 140mm fell, then someone decided to open the tap right up with local rain gauges showing another 100mm from 9am to 4pm then official records show 350mm from 4pm to 9am Friday morning (17hrs) and up until the internet / mobile services went down at 1.30pm another 56mm. Gauge didn't start registering again until 11am this morning but I reckon we had another sixty at a minimum so with today's rainfall of 30mm that totals around 736mm.

Wind was incredible with huey making a cubbie house out of the kids trampoline and uprooting / snapping a heap of trees directly across the road from us around 12.30am Thurs night. Friday morning we got 60knots showing on the BOM but this didn't feel anywhere as strong as the mini tornado that went through our area. Spent the whole night up bailing water out of downstairs rumpus and laundry as stormwater discharge to pit couldn't manage.

Never seen rain like it and not in a hurry to see it again.

Tried to go for a sail this afternoon but there's too much sh1t in the water making it way too dangerous.

that's full on. sorry to see you've had water issues. am hoping things return to normal for you pretty quickly. i've seen figures of rainfall online for the yeppoon rocky area from 700mm to 800mm since wednesday.

saw in the news tonight bundy and surrounds have had 6 tornadoes today and the bom was tracking one as recent as 8pm tonight.

even after last years noah event the river was cleaning up after a week.

reading reports of damage in burrum heads due to destructive winds. something went through the area at 3.30am so will see what gets reported as the day goes on. will give brooke at burrum a call today as well.

reports are last night burrum to hervey bay had tornadoes. police advising residents of hervey bay and burrum heads to stay indoors today. fingers crossed for all of the windsurfers up there.

Synoptic Situation:
At 3am EST, the centre of ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald was located approximately 20km east of Baralaba and 130km west-southwest of Gladstone. The system was moving southeast at about 15 km/h and is expected to accelerate south southeast during Sunday, contracting into New South Wales on Monday.


Reports of destructive winds and possible tornado activity have continued in the Wide Bay and Burnett district overnight. Destructive winds were reported from Burrum Heads approximately 3:30am. These conditions are expected to continue in the Wide Bay and Burnett district and parts of the Southeast Coast district north of Brisbane initially, then gradually extending through remaining parts of the Southeast Coast district and into the eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt district during the remainder of Sunday. Destructive wind gusts up to 125 km/h and further tornadoes are likely.


Heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding is expected to continue over the Wide Bay and Burnett district and Southeast Coast district, extending west to include the Great Dividing Range and the Granite Belt. Six hour rainfall accumulations in excess of 100mm are likely. This could lead to rapid river and stream rises. Widespread 24 hour rainfall accumulations in excess of 250mm are likely.


Currently, the heaviest rain is located on radar over the eastern Wide Bay and Burnett district and the Southeast Coast district north of Brisbane. Since 9am Saturday, Boolaroo Tops has recorded 461mm, Walla has recorded 454mm, and Gayndah has recorded 272mm.


Water levels on the morning high tides are likely to exceed the highest tide of the year about coastal and island locations from Burnett Heads to the New South Wales border during Sunday and Monday. The sea level is likely to rise above the normal tide and the exposed beaches will experience damaging waves and flooding of some low lying areas close to the shoreline.


Dangerous surf conditions, with significant beach erosion, are expected along the coast from Burnett Heads to the New South Wales border during Sunday and Monday. This includes Hervey Bay and northern parts of Moreton Bay.

A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for the Capricornia district.












Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas.
* Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
