Windsurfing Qld., in conjunction with Bayside Sailboard Club invite all windsurfers to compete in the 5th annual Waterloo Bay Cup.
Start training for this prestigeous event to be held at Wynnum on the 27th November 2011.
More details to follow.
Woo Hoo, what an awesome event - bring on that king tide.
Hopefully it will be blessed with lots of wind as it has been in previous years.
Notice of race will be posted in the week before the event.
Previous events have been a distance race over a figure8 course.
The race is held each year with the king tide in mind to allow spectators along the Wynnum esplanade to view the race.
Please Note: For insurance reasons you need to be a W.Q. member (or member of another state windsurfing organisation, or affiliated club ) to enter the race.
Bayside Sailboards or Brisbane Windsurfing Club membership is not available on the day. Please join a club through there website.
Silver card provides personal injury insurance only. Windsurfing club membership covers public liability for competitors and organisers. The membership covers you for all club events for both Brisbane Windsurfing Club and Bayside Sailboard Club for the season.
......wonder if I will get to steal the cup from the winner and get in the picture like I did in the one above!!! ![]()
"If you can't win it, STEAL IT."
I think you are onto something there Mikey, sure am looking forward to this event though. It's always been a ripper in the past with the king tide and long reaches. I saw a lot of slalom gear on the broadwater the other Sunday while I was at Seaworld, how do we get all you GC sailors up for the event? We have a couple that travel up for the Bayside events now and they have a great time. What so you say? Great crew, well organized events, safe, lots of fun and a sausage sizzle to boot. If you win you even get the coveted trophy (shown in Mileys sticky Mits above).
Scott, the Merimbula comp is Australia's longest running windsurfing competition -www.merimbulasailboardclub.com.au/
More of a social gathering than a comp, but well worth attending, used to be called the Mambo.
Cheers
That looks like an awesome event, I love the last comment on the notice of race - no whinging. Also noticed the winner of the first event was a Mike Maguire, was that you Mikey, it was in the 80's so you were probably only 50 back then. Do you have to be a club member to participate?
Apparently Scott, there is ANOTHER Mike Maguire...Well known windsurfing identity from the Gold Coast.(I think?)
20 or more out training today for next Sundays Waterloo Bay Cup.
At this stage we are looking at a handicap start, which will give everyone a chance to win.
Competitors will be grouped in fours.
Start 1 will be for rookies (4) followed by freeride (4) and so on until the final (4) will be the best from the open division.
If the handicapper gets it right, there should quite a few fighting out the finish.
Keep watching for updates.
The notice of race is up (www.baysidesailboards.com.au/notice/waterloo%20cup2010a.pdf). It looks like one big long reach out to a marker and back. Great for anyone with good board speed but a bit lax on the turnie aroundie bit.
It looks like it is also going to be handicapped also so anyone has a chance to win the coveted cup (that's if Mikey doesn't steal it again). It is also going to be a beach start and a beach finish, which will be a real spectacle from the shore.
This has traditionally been a fantastic event with a real fun atmosphere and plenty of competitors. The king tide makes it really easy to launch and the handicapping and single, long leg make it open for anyone to win.
Tell your mates to come along, you can sign up on the day and it would be great to get all the coasties (up and down) along as well as all the speed heads from around the place. We may even be graced with the presence of our National Reps - what do you say Luke and Joe???
Just note the NOR currently posted is a little out of date. It's not being held on 31/1 last year - again
The one sent out to club members is a bit more current
Now for a big fin for my small FW sail ![]()
Have just read the NOR. Is there only one race, "out and back" (6 n.m)? If the handicapped sailors like me are averaging 18 knots, we will be all finished in 20 mins or are we completing numerous laps of the course? From memory, there were at least 3 races last year?
Flashman, Just like all weather related fun events, there could be changes on the day. Iam sure all will be revealed at the briefing.
It is a fun event that caters for all, including sailors like me who may only average 15kts.![]()
Got two mates from the Gold coast who want to come up for the race, they do not have any pfd's has does anyone have 1 or 2 i could borrow please?
