So here is the official thread for the 2009 Neil Pryde Currumbin Classic.
The dates for this are the 28th and 29th of March, at Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast.
Divisions: Open, Master and Amateur. These divisions have been selected based on SEQ Wavesailing current membership. The amateur division is intended for those that are not sponsored sailors, are not looping consistently, and have only limited wavesailing experience. So there are no "I'm not good enough to enter" excuses now!!!
Entry fee is $50 per competitor, for this you will get an event t-shirt, BBQ lunch and access to the prize pool. A portion of the event fees will be put into cash prizes, so the more that attend the more there is to go around.
The format will be a division based expression session, with specific judging windows for each division. So while your division is being judged, get on the water. While it's not, do what you like...sail, eat, hang out, have fun. The focus here will be on having fun.
Still not sure if you want to come along...well check out the pics below for a peek at the Currumbin conditions. The place has perfect down the line wavesailing, and March is the month to get it.

Big thanks already go out to Neil Pryde, Ask Huey and Surf FX for their support. We are still working on getting support from other businesses so this list will surely grow.
Finally booked tickets today. Cant wait to get up there for some fun in the sun
For anyone that hasnt been before, its well worth it, one of the most fun reaxed comps Ive ever been to. Also one of the rare ones to can take a family too and see a smile on there faces, cant wait.
Hi Jamie, is there going to be a random draw with give aways, like sails n stuff so every one that enters can win prizes![]()
The event should be really fun for everyone. Currumbin is just a great spot for all levels and its a nice spot for the family to swim and relax, just hide the credit card from the mrs thats all ![]()

Dan, the request is in, so will have the fingers crossed.
Who knows what this potential cyclone in the Coral Sea could bring, if that does eventuate it will be all time. Given the BOM forecast for the next few days I am thinking the local boys will be out in force getting a bit of practice in.
Gary, I hear that you did some damage yesterday?? I got out just as you guys came in. Today I just did a lot of swimming.
I spoke to those in the know for all things weather related today, and it's still early days but looking very good for the weekend guys. It is likely the low up north will get the label of cyclone tomorrow and the pattern is looking good for wind and swell for both days.
If you haven't been to Currumbin before the Rocks Resort is right at the doorstep. So if you haven't booked yet, get on it and come along.
Also we have another sponsor on board, big thank you goes out to Goodtime Surf and Sail.
Hey Brett, long time mate, hope you can make it along.
Our approval from GCCC lifeguards is to set up the event south of the Alley on the beach. I have however discussed with them the option of competitors sailing in the alley should conditions suit that better and be undesirable on the beach front, this option was not rejected.
When it comes down to it, everyone just needs to take care and ensure we don't end up taking over the place which was the main concern of the head lifeguard.
S#*t yes - hopefully thing do as planned for the weekend.
have been out with screwed ankle from a recent japan snowboarding trip so very much looking forwards to some decent wind and waves.. hope i can remember how to do it :)
by the way - is there any camping grounds close to currumbin?
peace - see ya all there.
Hey Will,
There used to be one really close, that Ron, one of the old crew that used to windsurf the Alley back in the 80's and early 90's owned, unfortunately that one has made way for development.
Your best bet would be either the Palm Beach Tourist Park, which is between 15th and 19th ave Palm Beach,
or the Tallebudgera Creek tourist park right on the creek across the road from the once hallowed grounds of rock central - The Play Room - oh the memories.
I think a few of the travellers are going to stay at the Rocks Resorts, nice and close to the venue and to the surf club for some Saturday Night beverages.
keep trying for the tickets you may get lucky. I'm sure a few families will be wanting to stay out of the airport in Sydney, aparently not the safest place at the moment.
I should also add to this that we will have a few tables or an area allocated to us at the Currumbin Surf Club on Saturday night for those that are keen to partake in some good food and a few beverages.
With the numbers growing and the forecast looking good, this should not be a weekend to miss.
YEEHHAAAA LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL.
forcast is looking good at the moment, with the chance of it being alltime.
will be good to see a big group there.
Sounds great mate, its a great spot for some drinks good food and a few laughs and its right where the action is going to take place ![]()
Just a word to "any" bad influences, no out on the town OK!!! ![]()
well done tony for getting the conditions turned on, cant wait. Might even bring a few extra masts[}:)]
I know one little sydney sider who wont be makin it
Adrian snapped his leg today at wanda, both bones, could see the bone trying to break out the skin. Horrible to look at. Big thumbs up to murray who got him back to shore without the bone pokin thru. Good to see the boys work like clockwork in a crisus![]()
Crap, what more can ya say than bugger. Was only on the phone to him yesterday getting him pumped to be up here.
Well if he is up to travelling I could use him as a judge
But I guess not.
I think he might be abit tied up in the hospital for the next few days with bonesaws and pins and the like![]()

The event has been organised like this so you know when you are required on the water and when you are not. The times above may be adjusted slightly on the day to allow for any changes in conditions.
