So, did you decide on Currumbin, or are you still going to teh Train ?
...its 1:48....1.5 knots W.....drizzle........
............well done to the scientific minds at the BOM.....![]()
i got to the train about half hour after it died.
before then was pumping 20-25 knots.
expect it will kick back in around 3pm thursday
.
Its amazing just how wrong BOM can be.
I waited at Queens beach for an hour or so this arvo, and i've felt stronger breezes with a 10-15 knot forecast.
I'm wandering if I should bother going ahead with that new board deposit I laid down at Good Time over winter. Will the winds blow ever again.
It's a real bugger as the forecast say's 'don't go boating', and then I should have gone boating.
Question to the experienced windsurfers; on average how many days a year do you get to use your new expensive equipment?
hi agraylin
i'm with mr bond, james bond.
keep the faith. the wind will return. i guess how much use you'll get out of your gear depends on it's volume, your weight and your daily commitments.
the trick with winter is timing. today there was plenty of wind but unless you can sit at the beach all day waiting your chances of getting it are slim. but it did blow early in the day.
sept - march the wind is much more reliable either lows blowing for 3-4 days or seabreezes. timing your trip to the beach when it's windy is easier to do.
Thanks for that.
I'm actually looking forward to getting the new board, it's a 112l Freestyle wave.
I'm coming off a 160l Funster, so no doubt i'll be shaky to start.
Bring on those windy days, but then again i'm a passionate boaty so we need some good days too.

thats a pretty good size board for SEQ especially if you are 70-80kg. team it with a wave sail around 6m and it will probably be the gear you use 80% of the time.
It's always quiet in winter in SEQ, though this year was an unusually calm autumn as well, which has prolonged the pain. FNQ is very windy through winter.
A 112L FSW will be an easy transition for you. You won't be shaky for long.
The spring northerlies are not far away.
The great thing about windsurfing, is that the gear is cheap relative to things like yachting and power-boating, and not only does it cost you nothing to use, it costs nothing to not use, unlike stuff that needs regular upkeep, rego, insurance etc.
So don't worry if it takes a few years to wear stuff out. It's nearly indestructible too, with potentially decades of lifespan.
Earlier this year I decided to upgrade my kit with intentions to buy a Jp fsw 101 but only the 112L was available.
@ 80-85kg I thought this would be too big but I have been very happy as this size board starts to work well with a 7.2 from about 13kn feeling lively but easy to use. I use a 6.1 for more consistent winds from 15-20kn.
