Source:FisheriesInfo:Fisheries advise a 4m great white was sighted 2 nautical miles off Scarborough Beach at 9:30am

Thats right. All 3500 now live in Perth because they know they are untouchable here.

3500 world wide divided by coastline which they frequent, inner habours, open ocean ect most likely equals a gws every tens of thousands of km of coast. Some how I doubt that number. There is plenty more than that. It just commen sense isn't it

In bed on my phone so no long winded answer right now. But a quick note, you can't just take the est. population size and divide it by the coastline where they are found. The are a migratory species that traverse large oceans and mass congregate at different spots, south west WA and SA especially. Same thing in siff efrika and the lower westcoast of the united states. They don't just spread out and fill out all the available cost the way a gas fills a container. There are spots that are very popular with them and these spots are influenced by season variables in the water, other marine animal migrations etc etc. These things are for more complex and difficult to model than people give it credit for.

hi boys, my father told me when i was 8 that when eva i enter the water it is at my own risk as its not our natural enviroment. how many people on a good day do u think ,divers, surfers, boaters, swimmers r in a position to encounter or be attacked by a shark on wa coast? thousands. there r not to many places left where people arnt around? there for attacks and encounters will increase and im amazed theres not more, size> gws r not sexualy mature untill they're around 4.5m? if u fear for your life maybe u should swim in a pool or take up golf, because there will be more and it could be me, in which i consider every time i enter the water but i love the ocean and the energy in it, and i think its sad that most of u dont really consider the risks, they have always been there, so we'll just cull em ay so we feel safe just because we can. its always a tragety when some one dies prematurly ,drowns, car crash, shark attack. i think we need to tag the ones hanging close and moniter them, if they r consistantly being a threat or attacking people. well then fair enough

Awesomely put.

Lets take the nature out of nature when we go out to enjoy nature, cause there's to much nature in nature...

JB have you actually read that?
Once again they have NO ACTUAL EVIDENCE!!!!

"great white sharks MAY be more endangered than tigers"

"the world conservation union which operates the red list of endangered species which lists great white sharks as vulnerable BUT HAS NO OFFICIAL ESTIMTE of their global population.

There are no facts mate. It's all just 'estimates and assumptions'
Is it ok for all these text book warriors to use their calculator and their equations to pull some bullsh1t number out of their arses for a global population? Personally I think it's f#cked.
I think people should listen to actual ocean users who are on the water on a daily basis rather than someone who thinks they are mr marine because they spent 5 years at uni.

From "Perth Now", by someone who knows a thing or two about surfing (aka "Camel"):

"They shouldn't be protected any more. It seems like there are plenty of them now and lives have been lost because of it. Taking some of them out of the system would mean surfing and diving and swimming would be a lot safer.

"I think most surfers in WA would agree with me. Some conservationists might not agree, but you have to look at the big picture and the rising number of attacks and encounters."

Fu-ket. I give up. Just kill them all. Count how many you've killed and we'll have the facts you want.
Oh and if Camel being such a great surfer if he says full then it's cool. What about if Kelly says not too

Yeah I'm gunna partition the government to proison the oceans world wide. Kill everything then we'll be fine. After all killing a few won't make any difference at all. So why stop half way

So the govt solution seems to be ocean pools and giving surf life savers more equipment to handle sharks....(so you should get help after a shark attack as long as you swim between the flags?)

WTF??
